I pretty much don't have any issues with any mobs unless they have the fast affix and sometimes the shielding affix. Oh, Belial gives me troubles too because of the limited kiting room.
Basically I run around and when I see a large group of mobs and or champs/rares I throw out 3 spike traps right at their feet or in the middle of the group. This usually triggers the spike traps and since SS is at 100% they hit hard and kill most of the white mobs and 1 or more champs. Sometimes it kills all the champs, depending on their affixes.
Anyways, as soon as I throw out the last spike trap I throw down a few caltrops and run away a few yeards, which helps with slowing any surviving mobs down and since I am using the jagged spikes rune I do 45% weapon damage to them. This usually weeds out all but the hardiest mobs.
Once I lay down the caltrops I start slinging bolas, which is great for splash damage, and thinning out any remaining mobs with rapid fire, as needed.
As I kite and lay out the occasional caltrops for the slow and 45% weapon damage.
I use grenades if I get several mobs around me or need to build up hatred faster, but this can get painful fast depending on what you are fighting.
I rarely die or use potions using the above build, which is a nice change from my barb. In fact, I hardly use smoke screen with this build and I'm thinking about switching it out with something else, like preparation.
It's going to be interesting to see how this build works out once I hit inferno.
Anyone else use a similar build? What are your thoughts on the above?

There is, yes, but it would only give me a little more hatred regen. The large grenade on death and cluster arrow hatred cost reduction wouldn't really benefit me in this build.
One of the things I love about different builds is that you can spec to your playstyle. But there are a few things you might consider in a build when you want to maximize efficiency and survivability. Synergy for example: Cull of the Weak as a passive grants abilities like Elemental Arrow>Frost Rune a bonus, Caltrops, and Entangling Shot>Chain Gang bonuses.
Caltrops with Treacherous Rune works great and buys you time to kite and reload.
Frost Rune on Elemental Arrow pumps out multiple shots on impact and hits hard but also slows
Entangling Shot w/ Chain Gang works wonders against Invulnarable groups because it hits up to four targets with AOE
I actually use all three of the afformentioned abilities with Cull of Weak and I down Belial with his mobs with some ease. I jump back and forth between gloom and cloak of shadows and vault.
With Grenades I wouldn't use it because of the limited range. We spend so much time moving in act 3 and 4 that you can't afford to stand still and get hit by anything when you are undergeared.

I use a somewhat similar build. 2 spike traps + caltrops but I have cluster bombs and hungering arrow instead of bola and rapid fire. Your build is pretty interesting, i forgot about bola.
I never really liked Rapid Fire myself, I see how it could work in this build though. Grenades doesn't seem necessary to me, I'd rather swap it out for something else, rain of vengeance/stampede for example. Which is incredible for mass crowd control and would work pretty well once they get off the spike traps/caltops and start coming towards you. It's the only way I've found to effectively deal with fast mobs (as long as they're blue and not yellow, nothing you can do about those except kill its minions and hope you can tank it).
