I tested using an ancient Etrayu and an ancient 2-handed xbox on the PTR, and in my personal, unscientific opinion, it appeared to me that the 2-handed xbow was doing significantly more damage than the Etrayu. Once 2.3 goes live, I will be dedicating virtually my entire D3 playtime to Season 4 and to this build. I'm just currently unsure of how much time that is actually going to be.
Etrayu could be an option if you want to boost cold dmg. I was using it along with Cirri on PTR
Pro: cold damage boost which is not found anywhere else as weapon.
Cons: bows are the middle ground in both attack spped and damage - meaning they don't shine neither in number of attacks or max damage. Also considering thatw e have Calamity which is basically a 20% dmg increase to all damage also for party, plus having high as, there's no reason to use a bow.
This gives us 15 additional discipline, or a 225% damage bonus at all times. Essential.
Bold emphasis mine. Forgive my noob question, but where does that damage bonus come from in relation to that passive or the bonus discipline? There's obviously a connection somewhere I'm missing. I'm pretty inexperienced with Demon Hunters but would like to run one in Season 4. Could anyone point me in the right direction on this? Thanks!
You can't actually equip the Buriza without a significant damage loss. The Buriza cannot roll discipline or be rerolled with discipline as a secondary affix. This means we cannot utilize the Buriza affix unless we Cube the weapon. Due to this, the 2.2 version of the build failed spectacularly.
I am currently in the servers, sifting through all the shit from Season 3. I will be setting this build up and pushing grifts later tonight. Will report back in a few hours.
Update: 1 hour in, gearing is equipped, farming group acquired, its now time to get those mats so I can use my newly collected cube. Also, I do not have an Ancient Calamity to test, however testing gems is on my list.
Update: 2 hours in. Fully geared, and now doing group grifts to perfect the few gear pieces I have. Looking to find a calamity and get my iceblink all the way to 50 exactly for level 50 gem tests.

Assuming you go with Calamity as weapon (as it seems the only option) test both Cirri and DML. I suppose that since AoE is become kinda a big deal, DML will turn out better.
Also test different legendary gems setup (Zei, SS, IceBlink).
EDIT: is it possible to throw Frostburn into the equation? maybe equipping hunter's wrath and cubing the gloves.

Equip Hunters wrath, cube Depth Diggers, Cube RRoG, Equip Frostburn.
Altough you will miss an opportunity to cube a second element immunity amulet, or an Convection of Elements

To use DD you need to cube RoRG anyway. Going full offensive requires RoRG to stack as many bonuses as possible.
If you don't cube RoRG, you either miss F/R (which is not advised) or DD. The second option seems more likely, it all depends on what we will need to have to tackle high level GR. For farming status, i don't think we need either immunity amu (i'd go for a good rolled Hellfire).
Well, I spent the last 5 hours doing something. and it may have been this. So I mean good use of time, right?
Note: Video may still be processing, give it time. Typically I'd wait for it to be completely finalized before sending out links, but after I post this I'm going to bed and I don't particularly wish to keep waiting for the video.
As expected, time isn't stellar but my experience on high GR is very limited to non-existant, so it could have been a good time.
What makes me happy is that from your gear there's room for improvements: Calamity and DML in first place, didin't look at gems but it seems you run a BotT+Ice+SS, i'm going to try BotT+Ice+Zei given the kiting potential.
Looks pretty good and worth playing; it may be not rank#1 material but looks playable.
Exactly. It took me a little under 5 hours to gather all the required pieces and then to fish for a non-awful grift. There is absolutely room for improvement. I have a very good DML, but I didn't end up trying it out because I wanted to get on the boards and then go to sleep. I did however try Zei's, and I ran a few rifts without SS and one without Iceblink. Unfortunately, we cannot drop Iceblink due to losing the CC and then a lot of damage. Between the Zei's and SS, I didn't myself notice a significant difference between the two. However, if they are close in power, I would imagine that Zei's would be better in groups and SS would be better in single player. I myself used SS for that run because it gives me life back and I needed some form of healing. Also, once I get my hands on the new defensive bracers, I will have a much easier time in the grifts.
I love the idea. I have a few questions and comments about the build.
1) Why Frostburn?
2) What happened to Awareness?
3) 2-handed Xbows are strictly better. The loss might be made up by Marked for Death. However, why are you both using Calamity and then equipping Marked for Death as a skill on the bar? Grim Reaper isn't as strong as you would think. (Also see question 6) It would be stronger to use Companion on the bar instead.
4) 37% crit chance and no Iceblink? That's a bit low...
5) Attack speed is not particularly strong for the build. It is good, don't get me wrong, but even with an Etrayu with the same damage output as my 2-handed Xbow, the attack speed and 20% cold couldn't make up the difference. The reason this build is crazy is because the 70% extra piercing damage takes already large hits and makes them obscene. You can't get anywhere close with a lower damage weapon.
6) You're forsaking Area Damage entirely in favor of Grim Reaper. Why?
CptGixer:
I'm hopeful I might be able to dig something up. I'm out of town right now, but when I get home to my desktop I'll dig through my files, maybe I can find some
footage of the build in a regular rift or something. Just so you can see.
For the Calamity part, the marks from Calamity, in 2.2, stacked with the Marks from Marked for Death.
Equip Hunters wrath, cube Depth Diggers, Cube RRoG, Equip Frostburn.

You can Cube DD, Equip full set and Hunters Wrath? RoRG is optional

Yeah, you're right. I need to search if there are other worth pieces of armor to use for the build (afaik nothing seems a so big improvement other than Frostburn) otherwise a CoE could be used instead of the RoRG in cube.
Here I leave a video using this build. The video is in Spanish sorry, but you can see how it works in Gr 55, but can be made substantially higher with this build.
15:40 minutes, you can see it in action.
FUCKING BEAUTIFUL. You are incredible good sir. I love to see this progress and be playtested and theorycrafted until we do find the best setup. I'm still looking for a pair of bracers with damage reduction, at which point I'm gonna play some more. This version of the build is absolutely fantastic. I can't wait to give it a shot and try it out. You guys have been keeping this alive and I cannot thank you all enough for the faith in this "third tier" build. Many have said "you can't do it" and yet, we kinda just did. And we will continue to do so until eventually, we shall break a 60. And then a 61, and then a 62. The sky's the limit.
With that said. I will be testing versions tonight if I find items I can use as upgrades to try different builds.
This thread made me decide on running DH again for this season. To be on the safe side i'll try to push to GR60 with the standard MS build which has alredy proven to be functional, but this buid will be definitely the standard i'll play.

Awesome vid. Would really like to know the gear/gems/cube/skills setup.
I've seen interesting choices like running fire MS and incredible stuff like an 11 billions DA.

Thanks Jasoonn!
This build has become better but it isnt any comp for nats atm. Rg is fun with this spec but the rest of the rift lacks badly
