Ive been wondering. Since slow resource generation is a problem for Crusaders, which is doubly hit by the 'forced' use of Heavenly Strenght with the inherent slow 2handers.
But can a speedfreak crusader compare? Weilding a dagger, the righteousnes passive and the Slash/Zeal skill beside stacking attack speed to really drive resource income through the roof. Which possibly could allow for true spamming of Heavens Fury/Fires of Heaven, since you will regain resources super fast.
Fast attack -> less damage per hit -> weaker Heaven's Fury/Fires of Heaven
I agree with this. It's all wep % based so something that attack's fast will not hit as hard. And even something fast as a dagger with the wrath regen won't output a 2h in damage in the long run. I haven't really found wrath loss a issue for me tho. But then again I only use 2 spells that cost it. My dump and Heaven's Fury. So maybe it's how many wrath costing skills you use that's the issue?
Yeah, thinking about it, the speed sounds sexy but it will hit weaker. However, I've found that gear with good wrath regen makes a big difference in if I feel wrath starved or not.
Because of the passive regen being pretty much a third of our wrath generation (2.5/sec compared to 5 wrath per hit) with the possibility to increase it by 4+2. Higher AS weapons will generally result in a lot less damage on crusaders and AS as a stat is not very appealing, despite the sheet damage increase.
If you want a high wrath regen crusader build, get a 2H flail with 4 wrath/sec and a shield with 2 wrath/sec leaving you with a total of 8.5 wrath/sec and 17 wrath/sec with Akarat's active.
This is by far your best bet on a high wrath regeneration crusader.
I think the issue is that so many of Crusader's high damaging skills have cooldown(Heaven's Fury, Condemn, Judgement, Laws, etc.), and so you want them to count when you can use them.
I feel the Crusader's standard non-cooldown spells are a bit lackluster for the wrath cost and regen you can reliably get.
Thanks!

Edit: Tried to push together a quick build:
