Hey, new to the forums and would like some help. I seem to be having problems with Monster Power 3+, and I'd like to be farming at least MP5. What suggestions do you have for upgrading gear? What pieces would be best to focus on replacing? I plan to as most Barbs do, play a WW/Run like the Wind/Thrive on Chaos spec.
Another question is, what at DPS threshold should I start to swap over to life steal?

Drop resistances on offhand ring and replace them with crit chance + crit dmg.
For chest and pants search something like 90 STR, 150 VIT, 40-60 all resist and 2/3 sockets as appropriate.
An amulet with crit chance is going to give more dps, but try to keep resistances at around the around 500 mark.
If you could get a mace with the same stats as yours and a socket that's another dps boost.
As you get more dps (80-100k) swap your belt for one with life steal and also switch to life steal on your offhand.
Appreciate the input, I got extremely lucky and picked up a 178str/58vit/72all resist IK chest for only 4 mil
I have comparable gear and stat barb as you but I don't have problem in act 3 (i am even using mf pieces that bring my stat down). i have crit critchance str neck but in mp3 i died once or twice sometimes so i replace it with str/vit/ar/crit neck and suddenly i dont die anymore, i think i lost about 4kdps but it works, more dps can work against you. i can do mp4 keyrun but i usually die 2-3 times with my current gear.

maybe it comes down to play style, picking up tactical health globes (pick up radius rules! and leave some globe on the ground for rainy days), not so much of kiting but bringing enemy up and down a line so you avoid nasty things which can be hard to see when there are a lot of mobs or avoid getting hit from hard hitting mobs at once (ogre with maces in act 1 and 2, the fatso in act 3 with dual wield mace, mallet king in act 4, banelings in act 2 and 3)
notice i don't use any set items and minimal legendaries, a lot of people went for legendaries and set and paid hefty price without knowing they picking up rubbish pieces. good example is IK belt with low str roll, u are less likely to benefit from lifesteal and you lost around 100str and decent chunk of vit and other good supporting stat (pick up radius, armor, physical/fire resist) from a 150-200k rare belt. so when you are buying set/legendaries make sure you know what you are getting and compare it with the max rolls of yellow items (vile wards is another example, vile wards can rolls main stat close to or over 200 but yellow shoulder rolls up to 300str too so vile ward is not a top pick for barb unlike for monk/dh because a yellow shoulder cant roll over 200dex), try to stack up secondary stats (i stacked up physical/fire res when i started with 2m budget and i can do mp2 without dying and with decent speed clear)
the most expensive gear there was lamentation and andariel for 1m each (other pieces 200-300k or self found). andariel dps is so high but i will replace it soon. i do more dps and survive if not better with my previous sub 200k belt but since my dps is getting higher i am starting to invest on lifesteal item (with my best balanced gear i am about to break 90k dps). i have an IK belt as well sitting on my stash, looking for a second piece before i start using it (most likely be helm or glove at this stage). ik chest is very expensive and you are sacrificing a lot of VIT for it. (chest and pants rolls max 300 vit while IK chest only rolls max100, and random roll vit/str will make the price off the roof)
and like the poster earlier get a new pants (since you found a new chest already). look for 70-90str 200+vit 60-80 all resist and 2 socket. more like a sidegrade (side upgrade) in that sense but this will only cost 300k ish, but you gain more than 100vit because technically you are not maximizing the socket (your 160str/ar/80vit pants if you think about it is quite common (heck you can even get a bracer with those stat), what you want is a very high vit as it rolls up to 300 or str over 200 with the gems included). when u search for this play around with the value see how much u str or vit you can gain from trading a socket.
also about farming, its not about what mp level u are farming but if u cant speed clear its not farming. i have seen 150-200k dps barb farming mp 5-6 when they can easily do all the way to 10. the key is speed, they 4-5 hits elites and can clear the whole act in 20-35 minutes time. just food for thought
Indeed, I've always known that "farming" MP10 isn't worthwhile due to the clear speed. With optimal gear, clearing the lower MP's extremely quickly yields better results.
That's the sort of place I'd like to work my way up to, and hence why I said "Farming MP5" as in, quickly clearing it without problems. Obviously that won't happen instantly, and I'll need to spend time acquiring the proper gear for it.
I'm just a little lost on what I should focus on getting to raise me to that point. There's the 400mil items that are amazing, but I don't have the money for them. I'm looking for things that aren't crazy expensive, but will help me work my way to that point.
About the Vile Ward, I know that I could pick up yellow shoulders with about 220str/70vit/60resist all for about 100-300k but Vile Ward comes with high armor, 70+ resist all, and decent life per second. Having good armor value is also important, so I feel that picking up yellow shoulders like that may not be the best choice.
EDIT: Would it be worth picking up an IK belt? One with say... 180-200 str, 70-80 vit, 2.8 or higher life steal, 70+ resist all for 10-15mil? Is it worth it or will I just replace it rather quickly, wasting my gold?
10-15m is better spent on new main hand weapon. as i said sidegrade new pants will cost between 300-500k and you gain 100vit, if you want to spend 2-3m to get similar pants that i describe with more socket or strength thats gonna give you more than an 10m IK belt. new pants should be your top priority. IK belt will reduce your dps while give lifesteal which not really useful YET for you so why spend 10-15m now and you get little benefit from it? i got 180str IK belt with armor for 330k BO today and there is one more for 900k BO. You can try that and re gem your pants with 2 star vit gem and see how it helps you more on mp3, instead of blowing 10-15m and be disappointed that it doesn't help you. or another choice is lamentation with all resist, i got mine for 1m (63ar 175str 77vit) it performs more or less like my old 200k belt with my current gear. i felt the damage receive is more spiky on lamentation so i guess i will need more dps to really feel the difference. i am running at low high 70ks low 80ks dps self buffed.
More than 10m to be spend on new bracer/main weapon. I am checking AH for you very similar weapon with socket is around 10mil BO. lose the life on hit you can get mid 900dps mace with str&vit for 4-5m BO, i even see one with less than 30 minutes for 1m bid/2.5m BO and there is no bid on it (small str and no vit though). Thats how I get ballpark figure for my bidding and be patient. for your case i know i can get the same mace with socket for 10m so i aim to bid for 5-7m for items with no buyout (or item with low bid but high BO, high max buyout usually filters a lot of good stuff so spend more time on it).
while the vileward is decent enough, but how much did you pay for it? i have been monitoring the prices to replace my budget sub 200k shoulder but all i see is 2mil upward and it didn't gives much upgrade, like yours only gives me 30 more str/20vit/armor and 10 all resist, would i pay 2-4 mil for such a little upgrade? def not. While 2-3mil yellow shoulder gives me much better upgrade such as 50+ more str with more across the other stat. just out of curiosity how much did u pay for you IK chest and helm? 20-30mil each?
I do 139k, and I don't farm mp5/6 for eq even when I hit 170k dps buff or unbuff.
even at that dps, elites dont die fast enough imo, at least to ww/tornado barb. I guess it depends on what you wanna call effecient farming, but imo, its not the most effecient farming mp6 when u have to wait for elites to die still, when u could just do mp2-3 and run through elites, they die from tornadoes so fast that you literally never have time to even see all the affixes before they die, THATS what I call effecient farming but you definately want to get ur crit chance up+crit dmg if you can, don't worry about attack speed atm cause its gonna cost alot more than your budget allows.

I did mention it in my second post, got lucky and only paid 4 million for the chest, was 1d, 12hs, guess someone put it up wrong. The helm only cost me 4.8 mil, there was quite a lot up with similar stats, and the same price range.
Shoulders... I have them for awhile and can't remember off the top of my head. I think I overpaid for them.
I'll consider what you said and take a look at weapons. Should I look at ones with Life Steal, or 500+ LoH?
Found a weapon on the AH for 6mil, 713.8 DPS,191 str, 126 vit, 820 LoH, 92% crit damage with a socket for 6399999 (6.3mil) worth it?
Also looked at some pants, all pants that have 80str, 150vit, 65+ all resist, and two sockets are 2.5mil or more. Picked up some decent-ish ones the other day for only 10K bid, which is what I'm wearing right now.
713 is too low for main hand dps, that is more like offhand weapon. try 850+dps, u cant be too greedy with stats for main hand weapon especially with 10m budget. that is why i hate buying weapon, my main weapon is rather sucky as well, high 700s dps with double crit, lifesteal and 300str, but at least i didnt pay millions for it, found it myself, my spare main weapon is a mighty with 950 dps 100str and double crit, also self found. i found mighty weapon works better on low mp, on mp1 with my mace and 90k dps the white trash died too quick so u can't gain enough rage from the tornado ticks. with limited budget ppl usually go for str/open socket/lifesteal, double crit is unaffordable with decent dps. try again soon with the pants.maybe its weekend more ppl are biddings. few days ago i found some for 300-500ks (usually harder to find it with buyout though)
Okay, so I still feel a little lost as to what I should do for upgrading my weapons. Should I look to get one with around 950DPS, 100+str, life steal, and socket on my Mainhand? Forget going for crit on that weapon.
Then go 70+ crit damage % and a socket on my offhand?
mate you need to think for your self. now you replace almost all your life on hit, how does it feel in mp3? if you are still dying then you need to find the right balance or again as i said, playstyle, i zerg mp1 and 2 but i get punished for that on mp3. there is no magic number, people that said oh 500 all resist is fine so you go buy AH stuff and have 500 all res and can't survive, That sux!
Ppl said 1400 life on hit but i had only 1000 on me and it works after adjustment for me, i died a few times early on too so I add up AR till about 800 after shout and it works for me on my gear but its not necessary work for someone else unless we have exactly the same gear. gearing up is a thought process and takes time, not go to AH once and its done. Each gear is different and it adds up differently, thats why you need to try it out and adjust yourself accordingly. I am surprised you went all out lifesteal straight up and if that doesn't work for you than i really feel for you but its not the end of the world, play around with resist, armor, etc, even life on hit. go high then start reducing.

It's working fine, I tried MP10 just for fun, and was surprised when I didn't die, and could kill elite packs. It took way too long to be effective, so I need more DPS but other than that, I'm fine. MP4-5 is decently fast, though I still think MP1-2 is better for speed clearing and getting loot.

Picked it up pretty cheap as it was a sniped bid. No idea why my armory isn't updating, I've had it since yesterday.
