I'm a long time lurker and first time poster.. Been playing since vanilla and since the d1 days (I miss arch angels staff of armagaddeon)
Anyways, my Diablo profile is above. On my seasonal barb, I'm clearing up to 38 currently, but feel I'm running into a damage wall.
Obvious ones for me would be a weapon.. Ancient furnace or furnace to be exact, or even heart slaughter. The bardiche actually is awesome for me right now, the cows hit like a tank and help against RG.
Other than that,I have most of what the high builds recommend, granted not perfect rolls. How is my skill selection? Stats on weapons?
In the stash, I have a lot of stuff to switch out..
Ancient stalgards (4300 dps) Ancient RROG (STR, CHD, LoH) Another maras w/o socket Better soj w/o socket (trying) Leorics APDS ancient ice climbers
A better cassius is obviously high on my list too, but again, single target damage is the issue.
I have full IK and bulkathos.. It's my understanding 2.2 will be when s2 ends and s3 starts, so farming that stuff for 2.2 won't do much for me for s3 if I'm playing seasonal..
If you have enough +physical, try the ancient stalgard's. The proc is a very large damage increase.
Other than that, you really just need to practice grouping the mobs more efficiently with Furious Charge. Getting into GR 40+ has more to do with how you group the mobs and the types of rifts you get than it does with gear. Of course, better gear always helps. Eventually, you'll have to have a Furnace b/c of the way elite health scales up, but you can certainly do 40-44 with your current kit.
Edit: You'll also need Ancient Partheon Defenders bracers for ground stomp to really shine.

I find this to be very true. I also play raekor's barb and I judge my gear level is similar to yours, although I don't have a decent immunity neck or SOJ. The highest I've done is lvl 40 and that was most definitely due to lucky grift layout and having high density of favorable mobs.
I also had to learn to force myself to skip trying to kill small groups of white mobs because even if you get them to very low health, trying to kill them if there's only 2 or 3 left is a huge waste of time. Same with yellow champs, I find it's better to try to lead the nearly dead yellow to the next pack of mobs to finish it off, or just skip it entirely.
I found that putting Ess of Johan on my follower helped with grouping up the mobs too.
Thanks for the response guys. I do have a nice set of apds I have, only really used them before my unity but I still do find myself dying from time to time.
Been working on the grouping as you guys mentioned.. Seems to be helping. I switched to apds, as well. I did find a maximus (non ancient) and have been trying that out with the chain on rgs. Pushed a little higher, beat my pr on 38, but still getting unlucky with pylons and such.

Excited to hear your advice. Thanks.
