Every dozen games or so when doing MF runs or level runs etc. I get temporarily banned for anywhere between a few minutes to a few hours. What the f? This feature fails to stop bots because they are... how should I put it... bots! They can easily be programmed to wait xx seconds after finishing one game to create a new one and even if they do get banned which - oh and behold - sometimes does happen, well they don't get frustrated by waiting to rejoin, they aren't the ones that go out making flame threads to vent their anger!
And another thing, the amount of times I get "failed to join game" when either joining or creating is ridiculous! The game never starts loading and whenever this happens, I need to wait at least a minute before I finally get the "failed to join" message to go back and try and reload again. And creating a game is even worse! I was doing tristram runs just earlier and when I went to make a new game it failed to join, after waiting out the horrendously long waiting time - as if the text "failed to join" is just there to taunt and mock me - I try to recreate but it says the game name is already taken, so I try to join and it says the game does not exist.
WTF!!!
Oh there's another run that has been screwed over because I was flagged as botting or whatever. So F'n stupid...
p.s. I guess this is the sacrifice we must make to stop the bots.
Oh wait... spam bots are worse than ever nowadays.
Blizzard has a good time banning real users that use map hacks and stuff (which as I remember it, was much more fun to use after many years of revealing the same hidden maps over and over again) and this stuff doesn't really affect others directly. The effects are minimal...
But it doesn't look like spam bots will be stopped any time soon. And this affects each and every player much more than the hacks.
It's a double edged blade that Blizzard is using on D2 to cut the fun out of it. This must be their ploy though:
"hey D3 is coming out soon so you know what, we're going to make you buy it by making D2 so unplayable that if you ever want to hack at another moster in the Diablo series ever again, either go to single player or go to the Fukn store and buy D3!"
I used to wait 21 seconds between each game. Sure it slows you down but you get banned less that way. I dont remember where, but i heard once that there is a certain ammount of time that you gotta wait between each game, and it was something around 10-30 seconds. Also, when you want to change a character, do that slowly. Basically what you have to do in b.net is give every "screen" you get a few seconds, just wait on it, then click on your next thing.
Waiting (especially when being very specific like 21 seconds) is something bots are splendid at doing. Humans on the other hand aren't, and I can imagine some would feel a little frustrated by these unnecessary waiting periods. What a great way to stop the bots...
Between games you only need wait until the game list loads. I rarely EVER get Failed to join game using that as my delay. It is definitely not necessary to wait 21 seconds. So I type in my game to join, ie. Tristrun-06, games list pops up, hit enter. Voila.
For the temp ban you're only allowed 20 games an hour per cdkey set. Unless it's changed recently. So that's 20 games of 3 mins each. To get around this I bought an extra cdkey set and I just login on a different computer. You could also use a virtual machine to run a seperate install of D2 on your comp or there are programs to inject the second set of keys into your Diablo II install but some people prefer not to use said programs. Having two sets of keys gives me 40 games per hour. Plenty enough unless you're doing pindle runs or something.
Haha, know what I did back when I was playing D2? When I had that problem with games, when it failed to join and couldn't be made, I'd wait about X amount of minutes (However long it takes to do whatever run you were doing) then try joining the next number after that.
Back when I played D2 near its release, I struggled to get into the next game since I had dialup and a horrible computer. Now I can't even take advantage of my new tech and might as well go grab a cereal box computer that uses morse code for the internet. At least this way I won't be tempted to join a new game in any reasonable amount of time.
Oh and yeah I would do that too, but I create a lot of run games too so after that the runs just get screwed up

I lol'd.
If I remember correctly you have to wait 2 mins if you try to join another game too fast and get failed to join game. Oh and I almost forgot. You can also get the failed to join screen if the server crashes and you lag out. This was happening a LOT last time I played due to people attempting to roll back the server.
