Ok, so im hoping a blue poster will see this and maybe give me some feed back, or something of the sort.
I think blizzard should try something a little different, and just see how it goes for a bit.
Hear me our before you dismiss this as crazy. Blizzard should redo Diablo 2. Basically take most of the things youve done with diablo 3 and just apply them to Diablo 2(ex. graphics, crafting, mob density) I think that this would be a really cool idea, mostly because I recently found Diablo 2 on my old hard drive and started playing again, its SOOO much more fun that D3, and I think that you could definitely bring it back to life. Spruce it up with the graphics and make it possible to run in circles (cause in diablo 2 its all about the squares XD)
However dont do a complete over haul of it. Leave some things the way they were. (Skill trees, stat points, things like that) But I definitely want to get away from D3 mainly because in D3 all that matters is Crit Dmg and Crit Chance. Which is obnoxious because in D2 you actually had to have other attributes to succeed. Also bring back the cow level guys, that pony level isnt even a shadow of what the cow level was. I strayed there sorry.
Anyways as I was saying, redo the graphics and such on D2 put it out on a test server or something, and see how the people react, I hate to say it but I think that if you brought back D2 and mixed in SOME of the aspects of D3 youd have one hell of a game on your hands.
Hope someone sees this and gives me some thoughts or comments.
The problem of Diablo 2's graphics is that everything is made using sprites, which are non-scalable (1990s 2D engine programming). Therefore, you can't "update" D2 graphics unless you re-create every single graphic in a 3D engine, plus port the entire D2 system into that new engine. Never gonna happen.
But if you liked D2 so much and hate D3 so much, try out Path of Exile, it's kind of made with your thoughts and desires in mind. Blizzard will not go back to D2, not even create a sample for you.
^^ agree with Bagstone, PoE felt like a much better "sequel" to d2 than d3 did.
That said, I can't understand all the people who want the return of D2
The play control, graphics, styling etc I think are all WAY better in D3 than D2 ever was. I think a lot of you are comparing a ten year development cycle in D2 to the less than 2 year old D3. There will be expansions and as Bliz has already proven, they're willing to make FREE patches that make significant changes and adds to the game. I've never played a single purchase game with this much support and free content.

This isn't new, well some parts are.. But there was posts about D2 HD before D3 was even announced.
Well, thanks for all the feed back guys. It seems as though my dream of d3/d2 mashup will never come to fruition. However I do think that it would be a fun and interesting challenge for blizzard to take on, and I do wish they would try. To be honest, I think an "HD Diablo 2" would look so much better than D3, thats my opinion. As for the hd mod for d2, its not just about the graphics, I think that d2 is so much more worthy of blizzards time, and id rather they made their already amazing game better, instead of riding the flaming death train of d3 into the ground, again just my opinion.
A 3D engine and the standards of a new gaming age require a different approach to game design. You can't simply take some of those ideas, because they were innovative and worked in that specific time frame.
Take a look at the recently relaunched "Leisure Suit Larry". Awesome systems and ideas for that age (where standards were still being set, and which today are very very high), while today they make absolutely no sense and make an outright crappy gaming experience.
I really recommend that you watch the GDC video. Things are not as simple as people think they are, and when a couple dozen extremely talented and experienced developers say they actually tried something and it just didn't work (skill trees, etc.), I'd rather believe them than in the public's nostalgia, specially when said nostalgia is so connected to a completely different period in gaming, and when said public has no idea what game development is. http://gdcvault.com/play/1017794/Through-the-Grinder-Refining-Diablo
On top of what shad3slayer said, D2 had a much longer life span that d3 seems to have, so you reach 60 relatively quickly, and the paragon levels, although i cant say that I have a paragon 100 monk or whatever, i have enough of them to say that they really dont give that much of a reward. In d2 there were 99 levels, and it was a B*tch to get there, but there was a lot of pay off, as in some weapons required you to be level 81, whereas in d3 as soon as you hit 60 on a barb, if you gear him even moderately, he can go start to farm mp7-10 depending on funding. and after youg et paragon 100 what is there? Nothing. You can probably do ubers with 2 other people starting at just level 60. In d2, it took forever to get there, but the pay off was much better, in my opinion. So i think that by redoing d2 and mixing and mashing some of the things together, they could re-extend the life span of d2 by a lot considering that its still pretty well played, you could bring even more fan base, and old players back who quit when they saw the monstrosity of d3. So while it might be grueling, and all the graphic aspects dont exactly line up, I think it would be a cool concept to see brought to life, and experimented with before completely dismissing it.

Well, in my opinion, the only thing that really needs to be fixed to make me completely forget about D2 is itemization - and they're onto that already.
Story? Yeah, sucks, but to be honest - after some 50-100 hours you just want replayability and skip the story anyways.
But think about combat. The combat in D3 is absolutely stellar and unmatched in any ARPG game.
Or the replayability of content (put itemization issues that affect replayability aside). Since the mob density changes you can go anywhere and you're not stuck to one act (Alkaizer run act 3 in D3) or one boss (Baal in D2).
The freedom of choice - I can play with my friends or solo, high MP or low MP, and simply switch gear and skills whenever I want. I don't need to level another character for that and hope the next patch doesn't screw up the build I created.
Some basic things are set in place, just need tuning - crafting and stuff isn't fully there yet, but we've seen where it can go with the 1.07 crafting recipes.
And think about all the things that have been demanded by the D2 community for years, and finally arrived (gold being worth something again, just like in D1; a shared stash; and a game that is not dominated by dupes where you have to stay away from trading just because you're afraid of getting "cheated items").
Thats what im saying, take the stellar combat system, the gold, and the crafting system, put it in d2. BOOM, it just got even more awesome. By putting the crafting system in d2 that gives gold meaning, add the combat system, and mob density, and youve got your self a damn good game. I know that sounds like what they did with d3 and it sort of is, but somewhere along the line something went askew and it just makes it to where d3 simply cant compete with d2. Again, just my opinion.
Adding to ^^^^^ add all that to the game, and you have an even better d2, it still has that complexity of old d2 but its got the cool features that they put in d3 without all the extra bull crap.
Paragon levels give much more than the difference between 85-99 (better to hit% and less chance to be hit% whoopddoodeee doo) and the last couple of levels for tree skills that are just going to add +X% to damage because you should have your full build done by 80's. Not needing MF gear is nice.
The main thing I miss is synergies; if you could add synergies to having certain abilities on your skill bar it could really open up a lot of things for D3.
I do miss random maps and cow level but oh wells
Carrot on the stick... D2 = Boss/Chaos runs + Rushing for Forge to get runes to make rune words, yes doing the same runs all day was so fun. Then when something finally dropped someone else would take your shit (if it was multiplayer), good times. Did you ever find a ZoD rune? Guess .000000000000000000001% chance of finding an item is a carrot on a stick... well D3 seems to be that way too... interesting.
Yes itemization in D3 is bad
D2 Different gear... what? Gear was mainly all the same runewords and BiS unqiues
So what would you keep of D2? Just the items? Changing graphics, engine, combat, skills, crafting, gold, trading, ... and just keeping the items? That just doesn't make sense. It's nostalgia speaking ;-)
"A few hours" im sorry were we playing a different game? It took forever, not just a few hours like in d3(assuming youre doing it legit, and not getting rushed) Plus, while you pointed out the differences, and likeness of the games, you didnt say that a mash up of the two wouldnt be amazing, because when it comes down to it I think it is a rather amazing idea. Although it would create a lot of turmoil about the decisions regarding what should be put in, I think the finished result would be quite simply put a d2 thats better than d3

No I think haveing a mixture of the items would probably be healthy, take our some bad legendaries of d3, keep the good ones of d2. Sounds like a fair trade to me.

A mixture of the legendaries from the two games I think, that would probably be best. Keep the bad ones out from d3, and eliminate the bad ones from d2. A healthy tread

Unlimited resources don't exist, companies are trying to make a profit and if they don’t they don’t make games anymore
TL;DR - It's a game if you don't like it play something else FFS.
