(7) IAS Side effects. The IAS nerf has had a few side effects which I am not sure were considered in the process. Monks and some barb builds relied on IAS to provide adequate healing through either leech or on hit healing abilities. However with the IAS nerf many are finding that this is no longer a viable path. Is there anything being done internally to consider this unintended consequence? Actually, it was quite the opposite. This was one of the main reasons for the IAS nerf. In fact, if it wan't for those additional side effects, and only about DPS, we likely wouldn't have changed IAS at all.
I've been reading on the forums hoping for a change to the IAS post 1.0.3 and then came across this and thought about it for a second.....If LoH was the main reason for the IAS nerf then why not nerf the value of LoH instead of IAS. Did I just read that Q&A completely wrong in thinking that?
It wasn't any one thing, LoH, DPS or Resource Regeneration that made IAS too powerful. It was the combination of the three.
On its own IAS raises DPS. As a side effect it increases the value of LoH and also for 60% of classes increases their resource regeneration. One stat, three things, very powerful. So LoH wasn't the primary reason to nerf it, it was 33% of the reason. Nerfing just LoH would have still left it an insane bonus to DPS and resource regeneration.
IAS is still one of if not the very best DPS boosting affixes post patch, learn to math.
And i'm still stacking IAS but that's not what I was saying. Blue post clearly states that the DPS isn't why they nerfed IAS but rather LoH so why nerf the IAS value when the LoH is the main issue is my question?

The issue was how often effects were triggered due to IAS. Critical Mass would be another one that would be abused with obscene amounts of IAS and Crit chance. LoH isn't as likely to cause an imbalance as IAS is.

Well, if they nerfed LOH but left IAS, then LOH would have been borderline useless, where as IAS being nerfed still left IAS has a very, very good affix.
If they nerfed LOH, it would have been totally useless without some form of IAS.

You need to read the Blue part again and then spend a few seconds trying to comprehend what the words mean.
Let me fat-text some of it for you:
This was one of the main reasons for the IAS nerf. In fact, if it wan't for those additional side effects, and only about DPS, we likely wouldn't have changed IAS at all.
And YOU need to comprehend the REALITY of the situation.
Again, and this is the LAST time;
IAS nerfed is STILL ONE OF THE BEST DPS BOOSTING AFFIXES IN THE ENTIRE GAME.
LOH nerfed would be outright useless without serious IAS.
Lets see if you can figure out why they nerfed IAS.
Again, real slow like for you; LOH + Pre nerf IAS = Straight up immortal
LOH + Post nerf IAS = Still really good, but not broken.
If they nerfed LOH it would be considered a useless affix (LOH is numerical based, not %), IAS nerfed is still really, really good.
This cannot be a hard concept to grasp. Seriously, not hard at all. Nerfing LOH would have made it completely dependant on the very combination they were trying to tone down.
Life on hit, Rage on crit, Arcane power on crit, Demon hunters entire system, Thunder Clap+LoH+Asi...just the way they work together.
These are all INCREDIBLY powerful with high levels of IAS/ASI. Some argued that Demon hunters barely work without 2.5+ attacks per second. Thunderclap with LoH and high ASI made monks virtually immortal. The way ASI worked with things like Spiked Caltrops, Tornado's from Sprint, and Hydra was a bit curious as well.
There was a myriad of reasons why high ASI was bad, #1 of which being that Attack speed was so powerful that no other stat came even close - to the point where even primary stats became irrelevant. Lv34 Boots were bis for everyone dps-wise. Lacunis were #1 bracers. Anyone who could afford Andariel's wore it. etc. They say dps wasn't the primary reason - but I do think it factored in a little.
The reason that they left LoH where it's at and nerfed IAS is because it would make LoH incredibly weak without IAS gear. This is the entire situation they're trying to avoid. The whole point was to make IAS an optional build choice instead of a necessity. If they only nerfed LoH, you'd be required to stack IAS gear to make it useful... See?
Learn to read, the blue post clearly stats "these side effects" as in MULTIPLE SIDE EFFECTS.
LoH is not the reason IAS was nerfed, it was one of many reasons IAS was nerfed.
IAS had implications with resource generation, kiting ability, survivability, and DPS. If you genuinely think they nerfed IAS just to nerf LoH then you're just not reading the same words as everyone else. It's not complicated, it's not a conspiracy, and it's not worth any further discussion.
All i can say is QQ harder. if they nerfed LOH then monks and barbs would have been completely unplayable. world of kitecraft is what this game would have become. they brought DH and wizards back down to earth and fixed LOH all at once GJ blizz.
