I remember first introducing Diablo 2 to my best friend back in middle school. When I first was showing him around, he INSISTED that I picked up every cracked cap, worn boots and keys dropped. Diablo was the introduction to his pc gaming life. We each made every character possible, making lvl 80+ characters in less than a day.
We used to argue about rumors of whether diablo 3 would be made, for the past 10 years. Diablo 3 has been the game we had both been waiting our entire lives for.
Since then we have played many games online, awaiting the day diablo 3 would come... the day the game came out we used to imagine making multiple account and just save the most epic names we could think of(before it was announced that names would no longer be "unique")
I would post my huge emotional meaningful story filled with all our endeavors...but im sure very few would read through all that ^^
This January a speeding car lost control over a raised median, hit, and killed my best friend on impact.
For awhile, I didn't think I'd even try playing without him.
It wasn't until the 15th when presales came out that I decided that instead I would be playing with a passion, opening night i've requested the days off work and i'll be playing for 2 days straight at least. Eating our favorite all nighter foods. I will use his signature names for champs etc
anyway, onto the point of this topic
I know the gaming community can be a rather creative, and ingenuitive lot, so this is me asking everyone as to what I could do in memory of my best friend while playin d3.
RIP Alex, Hydrocity, Run Nukka, raniac, Banjo_Kazooie etc
This has turned into more than a game for me
Blizzard, you da best
So far we got
-Favorite foods,
-Champ Naming,
-after the diablo soundtrack gets old make a memorable playlist
-gather cheap crap...for the hell of it,
-Max Hardcore Character with his name and let him die
Thank you for sharing your story m8. I'm glad you have found a way to cope with your situation, and I hope the best for you in the time to come.
On to topic: The first thing that springs to mind is to make a run through one of the acts where you force yourself to pickup and vendor all white and grey items lol. And make sure to explore every tidbit of each area in that act so you dont miss a single one!
Did he have a favourite class of choice? I think it would be a great and fitting tribute to max out a character (say barbarian if he liked barbarians) under his name/avatar on hardcore and get it the best gear and then let it die and forever be deposited in the hall of heroes.
The best gear bit is probably unreasonable, but all the rest is what I would do.

I was initially thinking it was a bit weird to let a character die... but you're right. +1 to this idea for sure. Something that represents him. If you can find gear (doesn't have to be the best, as already mentioned) that you think represents him, get the character to max level (60 should be much, much more obtainable than 99!) and then retire him there as a tribute... that'd be awesome. I'd love to see a screenshot of him when you're done, :D.
Alternatively, if there are any personality quirks or traits you can think of, you could always try to focus on those. i.e. start a cracked/worn item library or similar, heh.
Sorry for your loss. I would send this story to Bashiok and tell him to give you a beta key in his honor. I think it's ridiculous he didn't have the game in his hands before January. It's been over a decade and Blizzard put other franchises over Diablo. If he couldn't have the game, he could have had the beta, which should be OPEN, because it's only an expansion of what they presented to players at Blizzcons. I'm sorry, this closed beta BS is just making me feel jerked around as loyal as I've been, we don't deserve this.

Diablo fans deserve a downloadable version of the Blizzcon D3 demo.

Its no biggie, at first i was so frustrated that tons of people were getting beta keys but not me. i'm sorta glad i haven't done countless beta runs and I get to really experience the game as it stands
