I really believe that Cain is going to die. It just makes sense. There comes a point when a writer has to say enough is enough. He's been around far too long, survived far too many close encounters. He's also one of the very few characters that is developed, and one of the very few iconic characters. Let's face it: we're attached to him. I mean, how many times do you read "Stay a while and listen!" on a daily basis around here? Pretty often. It would be dramatic and would open the way for a new character(s) to fill his mentor role.
But then again, there's also significant evidence that Leah will face some manner of trouble, herself, although I doubt she'll actually die. I'm thinking possession -> somehow she survives (perhaps Cain intervenes to save his adopted daughter, losing his life in the process?) -> she begins to replace Cain.

I found it entertaining.
