I can potentially see there being certain events that may not be soloable. Like some of those 'cut and pastes' you can find being drastically harder than others on Inferno but also with better rewards. But I am 100% confident that at least 90% of Inferno will be soloable.
I would not be averse to them adding a few random events as I described above though... ones that are ultra-challenging on inferno to the point that doing them without a group may well be suicide... but they'd have to be really rare ones and really rewarding - and they'd have to have an npc at the start of it that warns you that you may not want to enter without some allies to back you up.
Diablo 3 will scale monster difficulty to the amount of players in the game much better than Diablo 2 did. As long as 're the only person in the game, the game will scale to one player. If you're one of four players in a game, three of which are hanging out in town, and you are trying to solo.. It's going to be four times harder, if not more..
On a side note, item drop rates don't increase at all with more players.
“We act as though comfort and luxury were the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about.” - Albert Einstein
I don't think they've ever said it was not soloable.

Why would they make the entire game solo-able, except for one area? Keep in mind there is no longer an offline single player or a stupid "open battle.net" twin. So we need to cater to the single player RP's. Blizzard is not making inferno "group only".

That is exactly what I would be afraid of... The most powerful and valuable rewards force players to be socially dependent. So people like me are left behind because I am socially dysfunctional.
I've been having this debate with some coworkers who are also looking forward to the game. A couple of them see it my way. But one of them is very vocal for shutting down soloists all together. Keeping the best rewards for the elitists in large organized groups leaving the soloists to forever wear "second best" equipment unless they pay for it.

Punch him in the throat. Seriously.
Co-op only has no place in Diablo. I'm going to be seriously agitated to say the least if it's co-op only. I really doubt it will be though.

Daemaro, I like your style.
I pretty much like both solo and coop. Solo moreso though. Solo is great when you want to go at your own pace and enjoy everything to it's fullest. Coop is when you want to show off stuff to your friends and just have a good time, but my problem with coop is that my friends always want to rush through the game and that's just not my style.
That's not to say you can't grind solo. It's just as viable to grind solo as it is coop. It *might* not be as fast of a grind, but for some I think it's more enjoyable.
I'll probably be playing 70% solo myself. I have a lot of friends that play but I expect to be playing more and different hours than they do. I also enjoy like Cherub said going at my own pace.

Agreed, I prefer grinding solo, enjoying the full progression of your character. I only did mass co-op grinding before going to a new mode so I wouldn't be on the receiving end.

Playing Diablo since 97. I know nothing and having nothing good to say, I be a troll.
I am a little concerned regarding Inferno and forced grouping. I’ve been reading posts and many of the posters are excited that Inferno will be so difficult that grouping is going to be forced to complete it.
Where have you read these posts? have those people played inferno and can comment on how hard it is? I'm guessing no.
Things are scaled depending on how many players are in the game, and i think it all will come down to how good gear/class knowlege you have entering inferno , we know very little about it, do we need to grind hell for gear for a long time to be able to handle inferno? maybe or maybe not.
Point is.... no one knows how hard the last act is on normal, nm or hell, so its impossible for anyone here to predict anything, The Diablo franchise has always been a single player game with multiplayer co-op, forcing you to group to finish a task goes against the spirit of the game, this isn't wow where you need a raid party to take down a boss, you just need to be creative and have the right tools/skills for the task at hand, that is why the re spec on the fly is great, you can change your skills accordingly.
To complete it solo, you are really going to have to be up to your waist in good gear and be level 60. If you aren't meeting that criteria, then I can imagine the requirement of friends in a party, but even then I would think it would still be overwhelmingly hard, because if I do recall (correct me if I'm wrong), but doesn't having more people in your party also increase the power of the mobs or at least the number of them?
I think the game will be 100% soloable, with parties just making everything faster. If groups were going to be something required for the game to be completed, wouldn't a social feature be in the game like guild/clan support? I suppose guild/clan support may be in the game but if it is, its unannounced so far and there's been no indication that it will be. Your "guild" will basically be limited to your ingame friend list.
Dont' worry, D3's difficulty scales with people in it (to maintain equivalent difficulty from 1 to 4 players), MMO's don't. Why on earth would they make it soloable from normal to Hell but not Inferno? (Tip: They won't).

I'm sorry, I really need to stop posting when exhausted. I keep making myself not clear. When I said 'better rewards' I didn't mean that the best items would drop only there.
What I meant is that you'll have a higher number of items drop, so you'll have a better chance of getting gear. For example if X 'easy' inferno event does 5 rolls for items(meaning anywhere from 1 to 5 items drop) Y 'hard' inferno event may do 7 or 8 rolls. It doesn't give you BETTER gear, it just gives you a better chance of getting good gear due to the increased roll count.
I'm sorry if I wasn't clear, but I hope that this makes what I said a little clearer and maybe less 'omg terrible'

you have to remember that the game scales with the amount of players, and each player needs to carry their own weight because they just added that much more dmg/life to the monsters. so unless ALL 4 characters are really good at playing its going to be HARDER co op, so if your very skilled with hot keys and have an awesome build (like i will) I'm going to solo inferno faster then any random group of 4 people. because most likely you will have AT LEAST 1-2 noobs that will make everyone wipe over n over. since items don't drop based on how many characters its even less of a big deal to play with people. so diablo 3 is BETTER for solo players, not worse. but hey its easy to get confused.
To those that were upset at the color schemes being used for the Inferno ranked gear. Can we go ahead and assume that the color dyes can still affect said color schemes? It would be kinda ridiculous if you couldn't. Right?
I quit playing MMOs because of this “Make friends or you can’t have the best gear!” mentality.
Why would you ever START playing MMO's in the first place then? Seriously, get the fuck out. You joined a MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER online game and expected to be able to get all the good stuff solo ? Are you completely retarded ?
I understand where your coming from. I enjoy soloing content and being able to mow down hordes of monsters solo.
But at the same time as I recollect on my d2 days I dont remember having to party up even being a big deal.
I did countless xp runs, boss runs, and the occasional hard to solo checkpoints in groups without even speaking to the other people. They might as well been NPCs.
I'm sure it will be the same way. I played alot of hardcore and there you were almost required to group for some parts because it simply wasnt worth the trouble of dying trying to solo it unless you vastly outlvled the encounter. Or to lvl faster before cow runs came into the game.
So I dont see how you being anti-social is gonna effect you simply not saying a word to your party. Just run around, farm gear and do difficult encounters with a group until your guy is powerful enough to solo it. It was the same way in d2 for a long time, esp. if you played hardcore.
Just like diablo 2, you see a "act2 run" or some crap you join it, party up, say nothing and just merc monsters until you are bad enough to do it yourself.

I agree with your sentiments, but your blood pressure is visibly high in this post. Calm down buddy. =)
