By putting a few pieces of information together, it is safe to say that we will be visiting Dreadlands in Diablo 3.
The first clue came from a twitter response.

Diablo: @cknowles32 There aren't any specifics but I think it being called "Arreat Crater" now probably answers some questions. http://bit.ly/ZA8bu
Which had a link to the world map of Sanctuary which shows Arreat Crater in the middle of Dreadlands
Our second clue came from the Artwork section of the official Diablo3 website which had this picture clearly labeled Crater Assault troops which was dated back in July of 2004 by Viktor Lee
Our third and final clue came from a recent facebook post

While our cinematics department is taking from the game and story to create amazing cinematics, we?re also able to take some of their ideas and assets and incorporate them into the game. Work is progressing on a few of those assets and moving them from the high-end rendered quality models and textures to something that can be used in-game.
By looking at all three of these clues it is safe to say that we will be visiting Dreadlands and the Arreat Crater at some point in Diablo 3.
Based upon the recent progression of the Acts it is quite feasible that Diablo 3 will be concluding in Dreadlands and possibly be the "gateway" we use to get to Hell and confront Diablo himself one more time.

Actually, he looks like a Monk to me. Notice the necklace Edit~ Not to mention he also has a staff, which was Blizzard's initial aim for the Monk's "official" weapon.
De Soto is mentioned in this journal entry by Abd al-Hazir: http://us.blizzard.com/diablo3/world/bestiary/gnarledwalker.xml He may be an npc for a town called Wortham. The entry mentions a beautiful young women, who i think may be Leah. Wortham is likely an Act 1 area because of the context of the entry, or at least in the "area" of Act 1, but it may not be a playable zone.

"Today a young man on acid realized that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration. That we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively. There is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves. Here's Tom with the weather."
I really hope that Dreadlands and the Arreat Crater is just the beginning of the final act. I really hope that we once again get to go into Hell to fight Diablo. I would really like to see their new take on Hell.

Ditto. In full 3D with particle effects, Havok, etc., I think it would be something amazing.
So, which is it - is this kind of thing relevant or has there really been at least one, if not many more 'total resets' of the game since then?
i hope that they dont follow a act by act reproduction of diablo 2. honestly, when i found out that the leoric highlands was going to be act 1 (im actually not too sure, is it?) and the borderlands where going to be act 2 (ok this one im sure about) i couldnt help but feel disappointment that blizzard is making the storyline follow the same path as d2. so for me, if act 5 is located in the barbarian homeland or whatever, it will be a major buzzkill
What if you quest through drealands and the final quests leads you to the crater. You fight off hordes of enemies until , at the end, diablo pops out and you fight him.
