Just because it's mainly a ARPG doesn't mean it can't have other elements. I mean a lot of people loved PvP and trading in D2. What exactly is wrong with having The game, regular pvp, AND capture the flag? You wouldn't be forced to play it, and if it were in seperate games/maps it woudln't even have any effect on regular pvp or the game.
I know I'd like it, it seems to give a little meaning to PvP for me. Competition is fun.
I think this is a great idea. It would encourage a different way of playing, probably resulting in more team efforts. This means that it will add another variable for considering what kind of gear you're looking for, what kind of skills you focus on, etc. And, in turn, this means more diverse characters and a more vivid economy, and means more items will be worth more depending on what your customer is looking for.
This just seems like a stupid idea. I mean, it's a very grim ARPG, what better way to kill the moment by playing capture the flag. Seriously, this isn't a FPS, this isn't WoW, this isn't summer camp, this is Diablo. I mean, cmon, capture the flag? I viewed this post earlier and I was so baffled that someone honestly thought that capture the flag in Diablo would be a good idea. I'm all for PvP, maybe even tournament style, but don't rape Diablo with a flag.
A while back Daemaro suggested having something like a Worldstone shard rather than a flag. It can be made to fit into the game well, and it's a feature that obviously a lot of people would like to enjoy, which is evidenced by the numerous support posts on this thread.
Seperate maps? This isn't WC3, I don't get why everyone wants to cram all this extra pvp crap into the game.
Not completely extra maps. Just one or two PvP designed maps. Or else you'll have PvP happening in the playing area with monsters. Which will never be taken serious if someone can just say "That monster killed me!" or whatever.
The maps could still be Diablo themed though for sure. Maybe places of lore interest.
if they did make pvp for diablo id like to see mini games like this rather than the old games mindless random fighting XD
with capture the flag
maybe destroy the opponents base (lets you fight npcs like cain xD)
rescue cain (two players in two diff randomized dungeons)
(the first to find cain wins XD)
(cain always spawns in the last room of the dungeon for fair play)
(there are unique monsters in every room and the last room has a boss)
all monsters in a room must die before you can advance to next room (so you dont just skip everything XD)
Boss Mode (lets you refight bosses with no loot drop just for fun)
(same concept as rescue cain except see who can clear all the bosses in the game first)
Warzone
(gives each player a set of minions which are in game monsters and uniques to fight for them)
(which ever side dies loses) (the players act as boss chars)
Sin War
(not a Vs map) (coop map)
(the players must kill all the bosses in the game at the same time)
(bosses all have certain reductions from their usual abilities to make it more fair)
(bosses have no minons unless using minions was part of his or her power)
such as that boss in the demo that reigned zombies when dead

I don't see the problem, the regular game is still there, if you don't like the extra features, nothing requires you to play them.
I do agree with many above posters, it should be kept separate.
I think these are the kinds of things you'd see developed if they did include custom creation tools like has been mentioned in another thread. Different methods have been discussed to stop 'side games' from interfering with the core game, like importing equipment, etc...
But as long as they are just side games, they can't take away from the core game. After all I'm guessing the main story will be engaging enough to keep people interested in playing it. If not, it won't be a CTF's map fault for the game not having replay value, it will be blizzards content, as side games would only add to it for many people.
I already thought about pvp arenas and ''mini games'' and such... Im sure it will be implemented in D3.
Imagine how cool would it be if you could step into an arena alone or with friends, and it will have like waves of monsters coming at you, like survival... damn...
