I'd love to be able to import my D2: LOD battlenet characters into D3!! I've got a lvl 93 Paladin that i've been working on for a very long time and I'd hate to have to give him up and start at lvl 1 again.
Why wasn't the soccer world cup the same as the hockey? Because they are different games. Sure they both have 11 players ont he field, a goalie, and a ball...but, it hink you get my point.
DII =/= DIII
Just as cheese =/= milk, even if they are both dairy products
Including the artwork as per D2 would be a nightmare for D3 and bloat out the game size. So it won't happen as such but...
The ability to have our old D2 save folder characters recognised in-game would be cool. Perhaps a roster of heroes, like a remembrance shrine in the town square of tristram. Click on it and we'll see a list of character names, cLvl, honorific ("Slayer" etc), and the key achievement. "Champion Sarmdin, L70, guardian of Lut Gholein". In other words that character reached Act 2 in Hell. Nothing more need be said.
No to import of gear. Otherwise a sea of duped items in D3.
But an algorithm to bestow, for one time only, a nice head start for a new character would be good. If the highest level character had completed normal then +1 attribute point. If nightmare completed then +1 again. Hell +1 again.
A small bonus is better than nothing and doesn't unbalance the game. And the bonus is so small that we wouldn't be bothered importing hacked files with a character that had defeated hell if all we had ever done was almost complete normal.
Another idea is for our fallen hero (it is 20 years after D2 so our hero is probably dead by now from too many fights...) to have bequeathed a special item which we obtain the first time we visit an NPC. The NPC goes and unwraps the parcel, with appropriate dialogue etc. Actually what happens is we get a random item drop.
I would like to see some recognition of our old D2 characters but recognise that unbalancing and hacked items would be a problem.

So we've got over the problem of colour in D3. Great. Now let's argue about everything else not yet set in stone and help make this game simply great! Game on.
This is one of the more ridiculous suggestions I've seen. Welcome to gaming...where you have to leave behind everything to embark upon a new game. Having some sort of recognition of what you have accomplished in the past is fine, but giving advantages in a new game based on an old game makes no sense. I've had several characters in the past, all deleted because of inactivity. And then there are younguns who didnt have the oppurtunity to make high characters in diablo 2, should they be punished? Your labors were rewarded in diablo 2 and there they should stay.
Why can't I import my D1 character into d2. Different game mechanics.
Why can't I import my Icewind Dale charcter into Icewind Dale II. Different Game mechanics.
It would require them to in essence make 7 new characters in addition to the 5 they already have, and rework their skills accordingly. Since the skills work in different ways and have different properties and some do not use mana anymore.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
And do you know with all certainty beyond doubt that there is no necromancer in Diablo 3 and it's accompanying expansion.
Expansions can, and often do, add things that do not really have much purpose. They could add the necromancer in the expansion if they so choose, and it is not like they have truly said they were not thinking about stuff like that.
Though the probably won't.

Not even Death will save you from Diablo Bunny's Cuteness!

You don't know which characters will return in D3. Can't import a character if s/he will never exist in D3.

they are talking about field hockey, i was confused at first also.
Im starting to warm up to this idea. I want to have one character for the rest of my life that I can just move from game to game. I want to bring my halo 3 character over and maybe my WoW characters too.

Epic fail.
Cheese is milk that has been exposed to specific bacteria in suitable conditions (cool and damp for example). It is NOT frozen. Go to your fridge and put some milk in the freezer and see if it turns into cheese. Better yet, a fridge doesn't freeze anything, so why doesn't cheese melt and revert to milk when it's in the fridge?
And yes, hockey does have 11 players on the field including a goalie. I don't understand how you thought i was saying otherwise.
Next time try to correct someone who is actually wrong, such as yourself.
