I don't know if this has been discussed or not... but it should be if it hasn't already, anyone notice the elixir of willpower in the gameplay trailer? Elixirs would temporarily buff stats, and if you noticed this one was willpower... a stat not found in Diablo 2..
That, or it was purely a name. There are potions and elixirs of Mind Focus in Dungeons and Dragons which raise the drinker's Intelligence.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
I think thats not such a bad idea. Of course some people would complain that its Wowish because the classes do not all have the same stats, but I like the idea because a Barb does not need mana, since they use a different form of power. More like stamina.
could it be for a resistance-based class? I don't think so but i'd just as soon put it out there than not. I figure it's just like how some games have elixer of vitality which is just a good version of the health potion

Please tell me you didn't say stamina lol... I think you mean vitality.
The barbarian using mana which was derived from the Attribute Energy seemed rather pointless, since the majority of his skills were physical attacks, something that would generally require something like stamina, or pent up aggression, strength and dexterity to use.
It seems his skills now require Fury to be used. I would imagine that Fury would work much in the same that Rage does in World of Warcraft. But what attribute or Statistic would Fury be categorised under. Certainly not energy in my book. I would think either Strength or Vitality would be logical choices. Stamina falls under Vitality, and I think that works quite well.
I am not entirely convinced that the attribute or statistic Energy needs to be removed entirely, not when a simple name change would suffice. If each class, or most classes have a different form of "mana" but they all fall under the same area say Constitution, no, that's more of another name for Vitality. Hmm, perhaps Energy isn't such a bad name after all. But I still think Fury would be better to fall under a much more commonly used attribute either Strength or Vitality.

I think that too. Unless "Energy" gets altered to be more useful to a melee heavy class like the Barbarian, currently it serves little to no use at all.

I think you got a little confused lol . Stamina is the energy that you get in D2 for running around. Pretty pointless later on.Vitality is your health.
Barbs should use stamina, not mana. And blizzard probably changed the name of stamina to fury instead. Stamina is required when you swing weapons IMO, mana is required when you conjure magic. Vitality is required so you won't get raped straight away like those npc noobs.
