True. Maybe a taking damage system could be implemented.
Damage over time is still damage. Regeneration will also have to be considered. Not saying it is easy, I just dislike the new system enough to actually care about another.

Demonologist - Bone Spells (Necro style!), Avatar (shapeshift into a demon!), Furies (evil spirits that hang around you, giving party bonuses) - mix of physical damage and magic

I can't believe the amount of carebear in this thread.
Diablo is about items, it's about anarchy, it's about being the top dog.
This is WoW's loot system, this is one of the most fundamental flaws they could have made second only to a 3rd person MMO-esque view system.
Screw the pretty colors and bunnies and rainbows, I'll take all of that in a second if it means we get to play Diablo and not some carebear "everyone wins" game.
I'm pretty usre it's just if you do decent participation than you get loot, it isn't best damage gets best loot etc. I'm just saying you can't bring a lowbie and feed him gear if he hits the guy once.
I wasn't really a fan of clicking as fast as I could when Baal went down, hoping that I would luckily click where something was. I'm sure that however the looting system is, I will play D3 regardless.
They could even make it so that everybody can have the chance of getting a drop.
I think the new system that works like this where the %damage you dealt to a monster determines your chances of getting a drop would be the best. Its not that different than the way it used to work in D2.

No because your system is seriously flawed. Character builds that do high damage would end up getting the good loot.
Part of the fun? It was more the pain of seeing a barb take an item you needed. Those damn Barbs... they had everything.
