Can't believe it's been 25 years already! I wonder if there's going to be any goodies released through the games

Bashiok - Blizzard Representative - 08/01/2011 -"So how many skill combinations are there now? Well taking into account 6 active skills, all the rune combinations, and 3 passives we currently expect each class to have roughly 2,285,814,795,264 different build combinations."
"Hey, I thought you'd like the witty irony of grub-on-glowie violence!"
It would be nice if blizzard did a community event, but it would likely have been announced already. I bet they actually forgot bout it till the last minute when someone went "Hey, isn't today the 25th anniversary?"

That's false. They have to take time out of their busy schedules to film the video. Then the editors have to edit, and upload. This was planned in advance, so therefore they did not forget about it until the last minute.
OK.... so not only are they obscenely incentivizing seasonal play, they're now using it as a reason to pluck a fun community event out because of the existence of seasons?
What happened to Blizzards own term " era"?
I don't like playing ladder/seasons. It seems absolutely pointless to me. I see why some like it, but it repels me outright. I DO NOT want to EVER play season, and dammit.... I'm certainly not alone.
It's been a long time since Blizzard disappointed me with Diablo 3, but this incentivization of seasonal play has just gone way too far. Now we can't freakin' have buffs because of this? The boards are nothing but a representation of who has a job or not and, most importantly, who's willing to cheat.
THAT'S IT. There's your leaderboard. In the face of this comedic failure of integrity, how in the hell can Blizzard continue to push seasonal play as if it's integrity is preservable by avoiding events??

While I personally admit to having switched to seasons with patch 2.3, I agree with the gist of your argument. It's really sad that they *force* everyone to play seasons: First, by having season-only items, and those items became virtually useless once they rolled into non-seasons a patch later. Second, by having season-only benefits that you can only get by playing seasons (unique transmogs, portrait frames, pets, pennants, and now even a stash tab. For me as a hoarder, I absolutely have to play the next 3 seasons now as well. And third, by creating so large incentives across the board (promoting seasons, creating season journeys, special season achievements, tying seasons to patches) that non-season is almost "dead", almost none of my friends play non-season anymore, so you have to play season more or less.
What I think is really really missing is a replacement for the leaderboards. They're just a representation of "who's got the best bot setup" paired with "who's got unlimited amount of time". (Note: I'm not saying more time invested should result in more success, but right now it's blown out of proportion.) What would be awesome is something like "my fastest 30+, 40+, 50+, 60+, 70+ rift". Maybe weekly events of random stuff like - try to finish a GR60+ with a class build that includes items X, Y, and Z and skills A, B, and C. Just random goals that make the game more flexible and less repetitive. A three month season brings many people back for 1-2 weeks. I get what they're saying - they assume that the season weekend event prompted people to play too much and then leave the game - but I think people just stopped playing after that because they had no goals left (and not because the even was over). Heck, even random daily events would be nice: Today, you get twice as many organs from uber Diablo on your first 5 kills. Tomorrow, you get double blood shards on your first 10 rifts between GR50 and 60. Make it random, make it a small incentive (no "must have"), and cap it so that it doesn't incentivize people to burn out by doing 72 hours of bounties.

There was a blue post that this season will have no community event at all.

Edit: I hate to be that "I told you so" guy, but... I told you so. And I received a lukewarm "no you're wrong" response from the community. http://www.diablofans.com/forums/diablo-iii-general-forums/diablo-iii-general-discussion/87987-im-concerned-about-seasons
Warcraft II...In my opinion, the best video game ever made.
Congrats on the anniversary Blizz.
