Like most of us on these forums , I am not a fan of World of Warcraft. However many people are. Infact, I guarantee you that the entire Design team on "Team 3" are big time WoW players.
So heres the crucial question. What if the Lead Designer on D3 is a WoW lover? Will it effect the game in a negative or positive way?
It wont effect the game at all because blizzard will keep their games gameplays, storylines, and universes seperate from eachother.
Creating a 'World of Diablo' that is just like WoW wouldnt be as successful as creating a proper Diablo 3, and im pretty sure Blizzard knows this...
(Although i didnt mention anything about monthly costs)
I love WoW. Not nearly as I love my big demon, but if the designers were WoW players what of it? Its a popular game and its a blizzard game. Heck, they may have worked on WoW themselves, you never know. What I do know is this. If they play WoW, it will be more than enough to tell us they dwelve in an awesome well-made and thought out game.
Wow lover, Lol I think it would affect the game negative, but maybe just a little. So it will be fine i guess.
By negative i mean that it would probably have a lot of WoW stuff build in it, and i dont like WoW, so it would be negative for me.
Have you played the game? Have you given it a fair chance? Probably not. You're probably just angry at WoW because Diablo hasn't had a fair chance. So are we all, but there is no reason you should be getting mad at WoW.
Its a great game, over 9 million people can attest to it.
It doesn't matter who makes the game. They know that in order to keep their fans then they will make the final chapter like D1 and 2. It wouldn't effect the game in any way I think. If, however, they decide to make another game after they finish off D3 then it would definantly be MMO.
i would definitly like to see some elements of WoW being incorporated into D3... i certainly dont want it to be the same exact game though, I dont wanna play World of Diablo, i'd like it to be something thats different from anything we've ever seen before... if anyone can do it blizzard can

Great comment, I don't like WoW.... get over it. You don't have to use anything WoW to make a great game there are alternatives, i know its hard for some people to notice.

Think it might have been the "gay" comment.
Or maybe it was the fact that Wow had Diablo elements incorporated, so by saying anything incorporated into WoW is "gay", you are also calling diablo and Diablo 2 "gay".

If you stretch it far enough I guess you could say that, but I don't want the game to be too much like WoW, of course they can use some items that are in WoW but these are also in many other games..... the things that make WoW unique should not be in Diablo such as the graphics character classes names etc etc..... but if you want Diablo 3 like WoW thats awesome, but I don't.

No effect. Blizzard is managing to make SC2 without people running round claiming wow influence.
Have you not seen the graphics? SC2 definitely has some features of WoW incorporated in it.

Anyway, would someone mind telling me just what Diablo would lose if WoW was considered for source material?
I'm gonna list a few things here... Please read the conclusion at the bottom before you respond...
Inventory
-WoW has many item slots, which makes each individual item worth less.
Spells
-Every member of a class can learn the same spells as one another. The only exceptions are talents, but this is not as efficent as just having skill trees. Infact, it is horrible.
Stats
-You can't distrubute your stats in WoW. That design decision was a dumb one.
-You can respec yourself mutliple times. So much for a dedicated style char.
Attacking/Casting
-WoW has auto attack. Horrible... Graphics -Cartoony. I don't want Diablo to look like Samurai Pizza Cats Gameplay
-I can kill a tiger, while another tiger walks through my body. And that 2nd tiger doesnt give a shit about his buddy. The immersion factor is at 0!
-The game is all about pulling 1 monster while hes chilling with his monster buddies. Sometimes accidents happen and you pull 2... you know the rest...
-Fed Ex quests..
-I don't want to kill oversized rats anymore...
-No end to the game
-No boss of the game
-No hardcore mode, or single player
-Undead characters are not considered undead in the game
-Undead can be priests...
-Money runs the economy. This is too much like real life to me. I liked the Diablo "Items for Items" economy. I am probably the only one who thinks this though.
Business Model
-Monthly Fee
-Endless Expansions
Conclusion
Now this list has some big issues, as well as many little issues. The little things do matter; Infact they are critical! So this is why I am afraid of WoW players designing Diablo III. They will be forced by Blizzard(Morhaime) to keep Diablo III, like Diablo II and I, in the skeletal sense (same Camera Angle, same Hack N Slash). However, with their WoW influences, I think they will screw up many small features that will end up hurting the Diablo experience. They will try to force features from WoW into the Diablo universe.
I mean, imagine if you couldn't distribute your stat points! That 1 small change would make D3 worthless!
