how about this
you can only reach other places by manual travel - ie, walking there.
so, even though there is no acts and only places in the waypoint, you can't actually reach a new area that you're not supposed to be in yet because you have to get their manually thus completing the quests which you would need in the first place
also, if all the areas were linked through a physical terrain then they could introduce a different type of map (larger "sanctuary" map), instead of a minimap.. or perhaps a combination of the two?
i guess the minimap/sanctuary map would travel outwards from town in all directions, no linear pathways from one place to another

im probably making no sense at all...
no that actually sounds very cool except you would need to have waypoints and tp's =) but having to run to get to the next area would be awesome but you should be point in the general direction of where you need to go first such as by making 8 exits or so out of the starting town and making each exit a different skill lvl requirement of monsters outside so you know which exit to take.
dunno if I make any sense either lol

Dream as if you'll live forever, and live as if you'll die today. "James Dean"
yea it makes sense
the larger full world 'sanctuary' map could tell you the general direction of new towns, but then that would bring up issues about quests being completed in a certain order if you had someone rush you
that way when noobs make mistakes they end up going the wrong way into crazy wilderness and getting owned by big ass demons at level 1, slight exageration
if this doesnt make sense just tell me to rephrase
if this was in Diablo3 and D3 wasn't an MMORPG then i think the game sizes would have to be larger than 8 people; thats if they used the entire sanctuary map
PvP should be entirely different there should be an arena or something where there are teams or 1v1 and have lvl restrictions. Hopefully they have more than 8 per game.

Yea, seperate pvp servers which have 10 people, start in a different area (like you said, an arena) that isnt in the ordinary game and also makes it impossible to town hug.
In pvp servers gold cant be lost, there is no monsters to kill, no quests to complete and when you die you respawn with your equipment so people cant NK. Maybe even a lose/win pvp ratio for that character?
If you've ever seen/played CSS, when a flashbang goes off and your hearing gets messed up
Wouldnt the same thing happen if a fireball/meteor hit the ground around you... or you?
Just a thought for Diablo 3

When creating a game, you will have the option of creating
PvM game
PvP game
Important: you can still duel in PvM games if you want.
The PvP game puts you in a different world from the normal PvM acts, etc. There is only 1 town (no other acts or areas) and everyone starts out in "town", but town is arranged in a special design. It is an octagon shape that wraps around a central killing field. There are 8 entrances, and a WP next to each one, so you can quickly get around to the other entrances. The stash and a healer NPC is also VERY close to each WP/entrance.
Also when you die, your body does not stay where you died. It's on the ground right next to you in town when you press Esc, so you don't have to run out and get it and get NK'ed. Another thing, is that you CAN put on your BC/BO, etc inside town. And one final thing: potions do not work in PvP games. They don't drop. They stay on your body, so you don't lose them when you die. But you can't drink them b/c it's BM. You CAN, however, run back to town and talk to the healer NPC which is standing close by the stash/WP.
This is of course, not to scale. The killing field in the center would be larger. Each ( x ) represents a WP. Each ( . ) represents a healer NPC. Each ( ` ) represents a stash. When each of the 8 players enters the game, they will go to their own WP automatically. However, you don't have to stay there. You can easily go to any other WP and team up, etc.
Okay and also, these PvP games, can have like 56 spectators. AND they are recorded, and when you leave, you can opt to "save replay" which will be in a mpg or avi format that you can upload to youtube or whatever lol.
Wouldn't Heaven look similar to the Pandemonium Fortress?
PvM needs to be way more challenging in Diablo 3 for sure (without turning the game into a grind, by challenging i mean that you have to use your brain more instead of just clicking alot)
AI would definately do that and it would also make parties develop strategies aswell
At first i thought that they should keep the original view from Diablo 1,2-LoD but we all know that one of the biggest attractions to Diablo is the pure evilness to it, the dark atmosphere, dark creepy dungeons, mangled corpses in pits of blood, dead mutilated bodies/limbs chained to walls so i think that bringing the view in closer towards the player (while keeping the same design style and not just turning the game into WoW) would emphasize that dark atmosphere into the game...
Dont you want to see all those evil demons up close and personal instead of from the sky?
Wouldn't Heaven look similar to the Pandemonium Fortress?
possibly.
it was stated that the Pandamonium Fortress is just a Bastion or keep. though prehaps the look of it might be similar to Heaven. Im ok with that, just so long as Heaven isnt some fluffy cloud kiddie shit from a disney show.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
I would like to see Heaven consist of bastions, keeps, castles, fortresses, big walls, metal gates and just a general brightness or brilliance about it.
I dont think Blizzard would go with the fluffy cloud idea of Heaven, i think it would be more.... EPIC
i personally liked the npc in the pandemonium fortress, i don't remember her name, the first it came into my line of sight she was writing something in the air, i liked that, perhaps make the air in heaven more "solid" so, if u'r going to fight in heaven u have to fight with the air to, or if u are good u may use it in your own favor... that way it would keep the supernatural enviroment of hell but ir will be more adecuate to heaven
Blizzard turned down an awesome opportunity to add much more lore into the Diablo universe through the two NPC's chat/gossip in the panemonium fortress but chose not to...What a shame they only trade\repair
They could of spoken about heaven/hell in more detail.

Not entirely sure i understand what you mean, do you mean air magics? or aether magics of some kind? or a slower attack speed?

If blizzard make heaven cute, puffy, fluffy cloud kiddie shit, then i might shit out 15 cows at once. Nah, but really, blizzard wouldnt do that, hopefully. But i think Genesis is on the right track about the brilliance and brightness idea of heaven.

cmon would you really believe that blizzard will make heaven fluffy and cloudy??? It's not like they made hell in the same way now did they??
I think they will make it awesome
i'm extremely interested and looking foward to seeing blizzards interpretation of heaven

I think it would be interesting. How many people would go see a D3 movie? Perhaps even instead of the game? As in they take all the money they would have put towards the game, and put it into a movie. Actually, more should go into a movie, movies are more expensive...
i dont know... its hard to say. i think they're working on a warcraft movie and the budget is around 100 million, i dont know what video game budgets look like

100 million for the Warcraft movie? is it full CGI?
Spiderman2 cost 200 million
Spiderman3 cost around 258 million
BUT, the budget for Transformers (the movie im told has awesome CGI) was 147 million

This is my idea too. What do u think:
didnt we already go over this in a different thread and that there should be no town and no NPC to re-heal you.....
Aswell as merc and summon AI
