yeah, i think the idea of bringing old chars into d3 would be a stupid idea. not only would it deter people from starting new chars in d3, but it would also make the game less exiting for people starting over again. I mean, i would still play it but it would be less enjoyable with higher level chars stomping all over us ruling the economy with the items and money they get. I think everyone should let go of their old chars and start new ones.
Everyone likes a fresh start, and thats one of the reasons why diablo2 stayed popular, because they started new latter seasons where everyone started over again.
bottom line: new chars= everyone starts equal, no inflation in the economy (at start) and that means everyone has more fun kicking demon butt!

Angus the peasant saw the necromancer raising the rotting remains and ran away. Since then he told the tale of how he narrowly escaped the necromancer he called "juicy bones".
dont expect Diablo 3 to be compatible with 2. It will use completely different technologies, locations, items and ofc classes and skill trees.
It doesnt make sense to make a new game where people can start at lvls 80+.
Wake up, Diablo 3 wont be/look like Diablo 2 in most ways. Was it possible to transfer Diablo 1 characters to Diablo 2? Of course not, why should it be different with Diablo 3?
You have a very good point there Fingolfinger. All that I am saying is that having the characters from D2 and the new characters from D3 will create alot more diversity in gameplay. I know it sounds like an expansion pack and maybe it is, All I am saying is that Diablo needs diversity. That would bring better gameplay overall.

Those before me shall quiver in my wake as I unleash the fury within!
what you're saying would be something like an expansion and unfortunately Blizzard didnt bother with a second one for Diablo 2. The patches added some content but u cant expect much for a free (after purchase) game.
Blizzard probably keeps the good character class ideas for their next project, and thats a good thing
btw its FingolfinGR not Ger ^^
sorry, i had too much sugar and cccaant read properly.:) But what can get better than a Barb or a pally? Druid seems to be irreplacable. They already had a sorcerer and a serceress.

To Ocarina, Golden Sun 2 was the exact same technology. They only released two verions because it was too big for one game, and to make more money (obviously)
If the information General Ryan provided that you can transfer your characters intact, then I believe the information is completely made up. There is no logical reason for that to exist.
However I could imagine it being that you transfered a character, and depending on what difficulty you beat (N/Nm/H) you get the different titles (Slayer, Champion etc...) as proof that you beat D2 and as a minor thing to view in-game.
But, maybe there is a slight chance. In Baldur's Gate II, your characters started at lvl 7-8, unless you transferred, then they could be anywhere in between 1 and 20.
But if such a thing happens, the levels will have to be rescaled, or increased in total. There's no point running around as a lvl 90 in the beginning when the max lvl is only 99.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.

Admittedly the GS games were the same technology, but really the main reason they were split was because each started and followed a different story. You can't have a game be like "Okay, so, you worked on this game and did these quests, and taa daa! Heres new characters to start over from a different point of view!" But thats beside the point.
It was just an example.
Like I said previously, if there is some interaction between D2 and D3 Blizzard will most likely not make it an exact character transfer. They will make something work, and that something will most likely not be direct character transfer at the onset.
Also, you can't use the "You couldn't do it between D1 and D2 so you cant between D2 and D3!". One of the major things in subsequent games is update and revamp of an older system or idea. Some things are changed, some stay the same, and some things are added! If D2 was just like D1 with a different storyline then... well, it wouldn't be as popular today as it is. Diablo 1 is fun, but in 90% of instances I'll pick the sequal in this case. Its just a newer and better game.
With or without, however, it'll still be fun whenever it comes.
Exacly. Just because the original was great does not in any way mean the sequel should be a copy. That never works. Well, in some cases it does, but not when such a big period of time has passed between the games.

I'm shure Blizzard could incorporate that into some sort of game, but as a standalone that'd be hard. Unless, of course, this lawn is some sort of portal to a new dimension
Haha, but yeah, it should rock no matter what they make (unless its another MMO).
Seriously though, ALL Blizzard's games have been stunning successes. Not one failure (on the pc market, have no idea what those vikings were) stains their reputation.
Though if they did come up with lawnmowing games, hesitation would be natural.

I believe General_Ryan left yesterday and will return with more information. In some respects, I fear seeing or hearing the information if it is actually true. Then the surprise will be over, and the results may be less than what I expected. Hopefully my curiosity doesn't ruin it for me.
Oh yes, the fear of the Hype backslash. Never has a weapon so powerful at destroying computer games been wielded.
Does anyone here remember Black & White, or Fable. Talk about games getting beaten down by the hype.
So once again Blizzard makes the right decisions, this time by restraining info to the public. But I do fear that by the time D3 is released, this community will have whipped up so many ideas that nothing will satisfy. But then again, they are Blizzard. Such a great argument that; they are Blizzard

If they made a game that was about watering plants and plowing snow, I still would have bought it
