So i'm lvl 57 and almost at act 3 hell and i'm currently using this build http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/demon-hunter#aQZXVT!beT!cabZYZ. At the moment it works fairly well, but as i'm moving to inferno soon i'd like some opinions on how to go with my build. I'm sitting at about 1700 dex and 600 vital roughly with about 12kdps. Any thoughts are appreciated.
what ive been using since hitting inferno, currently at the end of a2. only champs i have really have a problem with fast/extra health, shield/extra health(theses can be easy depending on the type of mob) and dmg immune adds.
Well, you are only 57, but for inferno and how close you are I'd say your DPS is a little low. I had 16k without sharpshooter around your level, and 26k entering inferno. I would recommend buying a weapon on the AH if it is a concern for you, but if it isn't at this time, I would just save till level 60 then buy a good weapon. I personally don't really like vengeance that much. I did used to use it a lot when I used to use rapid fire because it would dramatically increase the amount you can shoot. While it does have the health globe bonus, I find that's really the only boost to it. In a fight, your constantly going to be regenerating hatred, so you'll never really have that extra amount except at the beginning of the fight. Perhaps steady aim would be a suitable alternative since you should be able to stay 10 yards (a surprisingly small distance in D3) away from mobs.
I noticed you don't really have much in terms of kiting abilities. Smoke screen is great, but I don't feel in Inferno it will be good enough as your sole kiting ability. Consider adding caltrops, entangling shot, or some other abilities like frost rune on elemental arrow.
I don't want to change your build... think of this only as my opinions, for they are, and me sharing my experiences. Your build is interesting and I personally don't use it, but I recommend that you continue to play with it and develop it yourself as you create your own style. The great thing about D3 is that there is an infinite amount of builds that can clear all difficulties (though each requires a different playstyle and skill).
So long story short, stay with your build and play with it and tweak it! Don't let inferno scare you. It's a brick wall no matter what build or no matter what playstyle you use. Just go into it with an open mind and adjust accordingly.
How far is 10 yards anyway? I'm using Steady Aim myself, but I'm not sure how far away I should be:p
It's very close. If a mob is to your north, and looks like it's standing on your head, that's about 10 yards. This is also known as melee range for most mobs. The hitbox problem is very noticeable once you hit inferno.

A bit smaller than the radius of a Caltrops. It's very easy to keep it up..
What I don't get however, is why everyone likes Nether Tentacles so much. Yes, it hits Belial and Azmodan multiple times, but for everything else it's less damage than Frost Arrow, harder to target and 3% life leech isn't getting you anywhere..

Thanks, guys!
I just really like how it's viable as both AOE and ST. The electroball-rune is great in AOE-situations, especially when coupled with slow, since it has to hit 2 times to deal the same damage as un-runed EA. This makes it kind of lackluster in ST-situations, though. With frost arrow it seems to be the other way around. Tentacles is kind of in the middle between those two, which makes it somewhat of an all-rounder skill so you don't need one skill for AOE and one skill for ST. And boom! open skillslot that can be used for something else^^

At 59 you can change the rune for Elemental Arrow to Nether Tentacles.
I switch out Caltrops to Marked for Death with Mortal Enemy rune for bosses.
