I'm only at Act 3 Normal myself, having only had the chance to play the game for about a day.
I've read many instances where a lot of people have expressed frustration in the Barbarian's relative lack of prowess in going through Hell and Inferno.
Seasoned players, I have a few questions for you:
1. What are your skill builds like? I feel that for Barbs to be viable you would need a powerful ranged skill. Seismic Slam or Weapon Throw comes into mind.
2. How long did it take you to farm up gear for you to be viable in Inferno?
3. How difficult to you are the average champion mobs in Inferno?
1) Straight tank for 2 reasons
a.) my group does the damage, i pretty much take the hits
b.)im way too scared to dual wield or go 2h.. 42k life, 66%dmg reduc 30-40% resist, DROPPING like its nothing, i pray my revenge procs every second
2) I haven't farmed at all, just got my items from progressing
3) let's not even start on that... unbearable..
If someone here has a good viable build that involes dps instead of sword and board, please tell me
Sir, I was wondering if you have tried soloing Inferno with your gear and a different skill set?
I vaguely remember that playing in a group in Infernal gives an exponential scaling to monster damage and HP. Would playing solo with your gear and a more balanced skillset be viable?
Yea it's not much better. I have a specific build for dps that works up to hell diablo, in a group of 2 or 3. Now that I'm inferno, I'm pigeon holed into playing tank, even if I solo. Granted gear can get a little better I guess, but I'm still pretty stacked. My DH buddy though can solo most shit without me even there. Melee is super gimped.

I have solod it. Don't even attempt champions/rares way too hard, beyond hard.. I can last on normal monsters but again, PRAY to god you proc revenge every second still
Can solo Inferno right now at ~13000 damage, 45k hp, 5.5k armor, 35% dodge. I can farm everything up until butcher. Barbs feel pretty good right now actually.
2) I haven't farmed at all, just got my items from progressing
Might be your problem, builds and skill can only go so far. Imagine playing D2 hell mode with no uniques or rune-words... you wouldn't get very far.
Blizzard said Inferno would be hard, they said not everyone will beat it. Here we are not even a week into release and people are like "OMFG, its hard I haven't farmed any gear, what gives."
People back in the day used to play for days/weeks to get better gear for progression, I have seen two posts this week stating they actually tried to farm some gear to get places and you what the funny part is, it seemed to have helped.

Playing Diablo since 97. I know nothing and having nothing good to say, I be a troll.
I don't understand why people are using Revenge, it's terrible in the higher difficulties. You're basically gambling at a chance of staying alive.
Anyone who has experienced hell/inferno knows you melt in a matter of seconds, so why the hell to you rely on a skill that requires you to be hit to activate and then to be in the danger zone for maximum effectiveness? It hits like a truck and is amazing on normal/nightmare where you just leap mobs and go from 1% to 100% health, but useless beyond that.
If you want the heal, Ancient Spear (Dread Spear) is a lot better and it works as a peeling tool, Overpower (Revel) is way more reliable for the same AoE pack heal.
If I'm missing anything on why Revenge is good please let me know, because I find it pretty lackluster after the initial reaction of OMFG THIS KILLS EVERYTHING AND IM IMMORTAL BBQSAUCE.

No Cooldown. You can basically spam it, over GCD when surrounded by monsters. The more monsters, the better.

That's exactly my point. You're gambling on using it over and over when surrounded and "the more monsters, the better" doesn't hold true for the higher difficulties. I dunno, I don't like the fact that for the skill to work you have to put yourself in a shitty situation.
When revenge works it's amazing, you destroy 10924791024 monsters with it's ridiculous damage output and finish the pack in a matter of seconds with full hp, but when it doesn't you're left creating "help my barb can't do anything in inferno" topics.
Well ancient spear is a good idea, but overpower with revel means you can't use overpower with critical increase and that means cooldown on it will be pretty big.
You may easily way 13 seconds before casting second overpower, while if surounded the revenge can be caster several times in a row especially with rune which give 30% to activate. There is no way you gonna cast overpower several times in a row.
That's a fair point, I wasn't really suggesting that anyone should drop revenge for Overpower (Revel), just pointing out that there are alternatives for healing (if that's what you want from Revenge, although I personally feel the strongest point is the ridiculous damage for free).
Pretty easy - kill everything with Seismic save Earthquake and Wrath for Rares/Elites/Bosses with Ignore pain which should keep you alive
Killed almost all bosses with 5 nephalems up only one challenging was Butcher > switched to cooldown range barb - http://eu.battle.net...XTPj!YSh!.ZabZZ pop cds get him to 50% kite 2 mins pop cds goodbye - the kiting part is most challenging tbh but I managed to do it
Ok now in Act II ... almost every single mob one-two shot me .. so I put on "defense" gear 75% reduction from armor, 50% all resistances, 30k hp - same story, well maybe I can stand few more hits with this "defense" gear and passives, shouts and stuff .. still I die in few hits
-----
So act one is pretty easy if you will learn to kite/cc normal mobs and kill with Seismic and Zerg elites with Cds
I my self crit with seismic for 80k so I one shot everything on crits and my weapon has only 700dps ..
Passives Ruthless, Weapon Master and Unforgiving
But thats it Act II freaking impossible so - stay in Act I and get some nice drops with 5 Nephalems always up
What weapon setup are you using? Sword/Board? 2-Hander?

2h just max dmg for champion zerg and seismic snipe
For act 2 I tried sword and board but that's another story
How did you kite him for so long? He has that "enrage" timer setting that turns the whole thing to fire.
I killed him today with my group but im sword and board

I've tried those build mention above.... doesn't seem to work too well on rares and champ packs.
Farming gear: 15000~ damage with battle rage, 45k hp, 5600 armor, 25% dodge with dodge warcry.
Using an 820ish damage 2h weapon with 2.5% life leech (15% mf)
I honestly don't think it's possible for a barb to solo Act 2 or 3 Inferno. I can die to normal packs with ignore pain and 60% dodge wrath of berserker up. I'm not sure gear can even help with this one.
Just tested act 3 in my full tank gear (63k hp, 7000ish armor, 55% physical reduction, 35% dodge) and I died in 2 hits from a random white dog.

Revenge is beyond OP in conjunction with Relentless

Max self healing build, took inspiring presence because sometimes you have to kite until your ignore pain is back up.
I can solo SK --> butcher runs in about 2 hours as long as I don't get retarded rare spawns.
Act 1, all in all, is pretty easy now.
Act 2 however, someone please tell me how you're supposed to solo this.
Just tested act 3 in my full tank gear (63k hp, 7000ish armor, 55% physical reduction, 35% dodge) and I died in 2 hits from a random white dog.
so i rerolled WD level 55 atm.
This, I just rerolled a wizard and the difference between this and my melee is a joke. At NM act 2 and yet to die '-.- lol
