Hello everyone. So, I'm seriously considering playing only Hardcore, mostly because I'm afraid that by playing normal, I'd blitz through the game the first playthrough, and I'd rather like to savor it. Is anyone else considering HC at least in part for this reason?
I also think that the need to be cautious at all times will make the game just that much more satisfying. Although I gotta admit that the idea of trying to be prepared for what you don't even know lies ahead is a tad worrisome. To the people planning on playing HC from the get go, are you still going to be reading about boss mechanics and monsters ahead of time, or is the idea of going blindly through the acts part of the appeal?

The best strategy I could recommend is to play through Normal and Nightmare mode first so you get to know the entire content first plus a bit of familiarity on the game when it gets difficult (which by all accounts so far, ramps up pretty good starting in Nightmare). Then delve into Hardcore mode. If you BEGIN learning the game in its entirety through nothing but Hardcore not having previous HC experience, I fear you would be alienated and ultimately frustrated just trying to get through Normal mode.
Unless you have exceptional patience and dedication. In which case, WELCOME ABOARD!
For me personally, I'm going to keep a character on each side going. I have no idea exactly how outrageous Inferno is going to be so I'd rather not find out on my HC level 60 main.
But I find that the lessons learned on HC are far more valuable and potent than those I perceive on SC. Basically for me, I didn't REALLY start understanding how to play optimally until I immersed into HC. All of my D2 knowledge came from HC and the times I went back to SC, those lessons seemed to barely be apparent in the way people played. Everyone was much more careless on SC so it was no surprise in the end that their behavior didn't exhibit an awareness or caution that you would otherwise see on HC.

That sounds like a pretty good idea. I was considering that too. I was going to play by an unwritten rule of, "If I've reached this point in HC, it's ok to get up to this point in SC. I know it's harsh, but I figure it would be my best chance to really savor the game. Is anyone else planning to do this? In the mean time, I'm considering starting up a HC char in D2 and get into the survivalist mentality.

To avoid unneeded frustration i do recommend playing through the game normally first.
I don't recommend playing hardcore unless you know what its like to lose a high level character in diablo2. It could ruin the game for you. Give normal a shot first (well you have to anyway).
You don't to want to get to hell on hardcore and get but raped by an unknown gloam! type mob

Agreed! At the very least play the game through normal first!
