I'm the total opposite. I do everything players frown upon. I use the RMAH and flip incessantly player-to-player and also via gold AH. And when all that's not enough, I stalk people via DiabloProgress and bribe them for their gear.
Your characters made me laugh, yea there pretty bad lol. This just drives the point in that the only way to succeed in this game is to use the RMAH or GMAH.
I try not to use the ah but its just to tempting. Im in the same boat as Jaetch just not as hardcore as he or she.
I thought this would be interesting, then realised I'd misread it in my rush to see what gear you had. I thought it was a self-found never used the AH at all and was about to call bullshit (or insanely lucky) before I saw my mistake.
Sorry, no RMAH isn't much of an achievement to shout about IMO. The problem with that and self-found bragging topics is there's no 100% proof available for when you do get the lucky drop. I can hear the overused slogan "stream/vid/pics or it didn't happen" calling from the distance.
If/when Blizzard implements a real self-found only option for the game, then I'll start to get interested about seeing people's gear. Until then, meh.

Playing Diablo since 97. I know nothing and having nothing good to say, I be a troll.

+1 because you have fun doing what you do. Myself, never will I use the RMAH. I have never actively flipped. I just hustle gear and whatever else like I did in D2 and I do OK. MY barb is 100% self-found as of now. I haven't played him since 1.03 and have had him parked at lvl 60 (p0) for many months. I just slide self founds over to him to hold until my Monk hits p100 (currently p99).
Even with mismatched gears and woeful crafts passed down to him from rolls I made looking for Monk parts, without even a single gem in chest or pants, he's hitting about 100k. Which isn't impressive but certainly good enough considering not a single item on him was "bought" using either AH.
Once I start crafting for him and yankin a few pieces off the GAH, he should be tacking around 200k.
I'd say lay off with the insults for anyone wanting to post their non-RMAH chars here. Let people have some pride in whatever way they play.
Well, to me, self-found isn't about bragging at all, it's just how I think the game is the most fun.
I'm glad that you see it that way. You should always be proud of yourself, but I don't like how too often people look at it as "AHers are cheaters" or "RMAH is pay2win" or "self found guys are dummies."
Not a single one of those decisions are bad, or wrong, if that's truly what gives you joy. Unfortunately, that way of thinking leads directly to people altering how they play because it's "cool" or because they are jealous of others gear or whatever.
I cut back on my AH use, but didn't eliminate it entirely. I find that most enjoyable so far and that's mostly because I always want that "safety net" in case my luck sucks... which it does.
I'm just waiting for itemization, whenever that would be. I'd love to find something... more interesting. I mean, my crafts are by far more interesting than anything I've found recently (barring a 170 int IK helm. That was fun.).
bah I'm an adult I use the AH/RMAH plenty as far as the Mrs is concerned she prefer me to spend real money on virtual crap over me tossing dollar bills at strippers with my degenerate friends as she called them
I shouldn't even call it "self-found", because it's not, strictly speaking. If I'm playing with a (usually R.L.-)friend and he finds gear that would be good for my guy, he'll give it to me, and I'll happily take it. I also use gold, gems and crafts I've found/made on other characters. I just say "self-found" because that's the easiest thing to say.
We had this long thread about "what is self-found" and what you're playing is definitely self-found.
I could even add "there's even a blue post about that: http://www.diablofans.com/blizz-tracker/topic/262195-what-are-the-rules-playing-self-found-gear/" ;-) (Though it's funny that Grimiku counts party trades as self-found, but vendor use not). I'm playing self-found on hardcore with your rules. Essentially, just avoiding the AH is enough to "change the game". And party trading should obviously okay, not everyone wants to level all 5 classes.
Maka, you really found Inna's Chest, Pants and Vile Wards with the same single resist type? Pretty lucky, I'd say
Don't take this wrong, it just caught my eye. I've found maybe one of each and doubt that they came with the same random stat.
I'd like a self-found mode, like hc, too. But I doubt, it'd work that well. Too long periods of no progress.
I have never bought anything from the RMAH, items or gold. I want to see how good of a toon you can get without using real money.
Let the parade begin, show me your toons!
i wanna see people who dont use the ah period, their characters probly suck ass (98% of them).
its sad that the only way to get good at this game is by useing the ah, wtf was blizz thinking!
$$$
Ok, no gold flipping either.
And I am proud.
