Just like melee and ranged reduction it would be nice for an elemental damage reduction stat.
The biggest culprits for death are the undodgeable plagues/desecration/fire chains/lightning/molten. An additional stat to reduce these would improve itemization.
Everyone stacks pure all resistance which will fall under elemental reduction anyway. Better than devoting a valuable stat slot for mere reduction of a single element. On top of general resistances, many people stack elite damage reduction, which works far better because it applies to all elite affixes.
Besides Ice Climbers against cold there's just Thunder God's Vigor against lightning... that's it for now.
I agree it would be nice to have something against the more dangerous elements, in particular a counter for the increased fire damage intake thanks to Andariel's would be nice.

I didn't make it too clear but I was intending 'elemental reduction' to be all elements. People stack all resist but it also comes at an opportunity cost in some slots, so an additional ehp stat on the less dps centric items could improve a characters stats as a whole.
For a slot like chest, I'd much prefer elemental reduction than ranged/melee.
Also I'll have to read the elite reduction, I did not know it applied to the persistent elemental effects (like how resolve for monks doesn't reduce them).
Elemental reduction would be the same as all-resist? Except without the physical resist part? That's kinda "meh".
I'd rather see them buff secondary affixes (most could use a buff). In this case, secondary resistances. I'm sure people would fight over gear pieces with +100 Fire Resistance.
Then again, we'd probably need more elite affix variety. Too much fire-type damage, too little poison/cold/arcane/lightning type-dmg (would be awesome if we could have elites with Poison Novas, Chain Lightning and Cold-attacks).
But I doubt they'll do that before we see the change to One With Everything.

Cold damage doesn't really kill people however. The only dangerous part is the stun which falls under the cc reduction % stat.
