As promised, I have pulled myself away from the beta long enough to give some initial reactions. Let me start by saying that I have only played as the WD so far and only to lvl 10 (I did defeat the Skeleton King). With that being said, here are a few observations:
1. This IS Diablo - It may be a different time, but the minute I entered the game and started playing it felt like I had never left Sanctuary. I had been reading so much negative feedback on the environment, and I am not exactly sure where this was coming from. The dungeons were gorgeous yet still had the same feel for me as in past games in the franchise. The sound was exactly what I expected from a Diablo game as well.
2. I need a new computer - The game runs pretty well on my laptop, but the desktop can't support the game (graphics card). I have had a couple issues with the laptop overheating due to the graphics as well. Not a problem with the game, but figured I would mention it in case others may have similar issues upon release.
3. The new UI is definitely a bit clunky at the moment. Changing skills out isn't as fluid as I would like. The other thing I noticed was that every time I exited the beta and then came back to it, the elective mode was defaulted back to being unchecked (As were other options like advanced tooltips, auto equip, etc.). It would really be nice if they made it so that once you've checked the box it stays checked.
4. The new Skill Rune system seems pretty good to me. The ones I was able to open up were pretty nice, and added some depth to the skills. I know there has been a lot of controversy regarding this system, and some suggestions that these be a choice by players as to exactly which skill rune opens when. That solution seems like it would actually lessen my enjoyment due to the fact that I would choose the ones I want at their earliest availability, and then probably not experiment with the other available versions, making the level push to 60 must less interesting.
5. The changes to the RMAH/AH seem better than what I had been reading regarding the previous version. I was able to do searches by the type of armor, character I was looking to purchase for and I could compare the item on the AH to what I had currently equipped. The only negative for me was that I wish the AH was actually available in game vs. having to use it outside of the game.
6. Character movement was exactly how I remember in the previous games. I kept having issues with movement/attacks due to my long time relationship with WoW (dang wasd keys), but after a while I got it worked out. It helps that i like to go slowly through the areas and check every inch of the maps.
So, there you have it. I want to reiterate that these are just MY views. I am open to other opinions regarding the game, and welcome spirited debate between fans. I would also like some feedback on the actual post (was it informative, entertaining, etc.), as I have been toying with the idea of a blog or something of that nature.
I plan on posting some personal opinions regarding the different classes and my impressions of them in the future, That will of course be after I have had the opportunity to level each of them to the beta cap (lvl 13) and have beaten the Skeleton King. I want to make sure I have played with each skill available in the beta as well as the Skill Runes that we have access to.
As for 2: Try setting down the max FPS, it helps a lot with reducing heat generation on laptops.
Thanks. I did set it down, but I may go lower to see how it works. It hasn't been too big of a problem so far. The desktop is my biggest concern, as the kids each have a copy of the game coming from the Annual Pass, and if they can't play it that will just suck.
Beyond the jealous raw feeling I have for you I must say that your notes on the game are very nice. Sounds like the only thing I should be concerned about is the way the talent system works for the UI. I personally haven't liked what I've seen but here is to hoping.

I disagree completely. After playing through with the Barbarian and messing around with the Witch Doctor, Wizard, and Demon Hunter, I strongly feel they could of named it something else and changed nothing else and it wouldn't of felt any different. It's fun, don't get me wrong! But it's not Diablo. (Then again, it's a new team and a new group of people doing this game, so it's understandable.)

I think the skill system right now is awesome.
And I didn't have a problem with boxes getting unchecked. Was it a different character?

I'd like some more change when you add a rune, but that's just my opinion.

I was sad, I couldn't figure out how to get to the RMAH. :/ Or how to get my Betabucks or whatever Blizz calls them. Otherwise it was very WoW-like, which is good.
6. Character movement was exactly how I remember in the previous games. I kept having issues with movement/attacks due to my long time relationship with WoW (dang wasd keys), but after a while I got it worked out. It helps that i like to go slowly through the areas and check every inch of the maps.
Character movement for this game is just like every other action rpg hack-n-slash. But I had some trouble going from wsad to click to move as well. Lol.
I think your #2 item might be a bit of an issue or son to be an issue for some of us (If your not sure if you can handle it for a bit of a rough idea of how well your system will do go here --->http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri/ <--- my rig atm is 1/3 past past so playable but new rig will help lots) But thats just part and parcel of new games and better stuff making them look uber.
regarding #4 I never thought about it that way before, but it makes good sence and yeah i think ill give it a go and hold off on my we should decide rant.
Regarding #5 (Non beta player here so just me speaking how i see it) I think if they made the AH available in game it might make it feel a tad too much like wow. Sure it might make it more convienient if you could just portal to town, sell, repair and visit the AH then get back to it but it wouldnt suit the game imo.

Super Cop! He knows where you live, he knows where you sleep.
I only had one character created in the beta, so not sure why the boxes were reacting that way.
Also, regarding the AH, I found that if I wanted to look at one handed crossbows for example it wouldn't let me on my WD. I am going to have to play with it some more and see if that was something I did or ifit is in fact something happening to other people as well.

AH isn't available in town. It's actually only available on the character selection screen.

Yes I know, my wording was a tad off. By in game I meant in the character playable area and not at the selection screen. The ah setup worked great for wow as in your character did it but it would not suit (IMO) diablo. What they have is good.

i think i have an idea as to why you couldnt see one handed crossbows for the wd- to me i think its more of a class based item for the demon hunter so in other words not made for the witch doctor see what i mean, if you try it again and the same thing happens A. either im right or B. its just beta and not the full game which the full game will more than likely let you see, hope this helps some

It's interesting about the clunky UI. Something like that is immersion breaking. Anyone else have that same issue?
Very glad that it felt like Diablo to you. The last thing I want is to get in there and feel as though I'm in a different universe!
Make your grievances known to Blizzard in regards to clunky UI and settings not being saved. I'm sure many others have done the same.
Happy hunting.

It's a bug, keybindings and gameplay settings reset after the game is closed. Tech forums already said its fixed in the next patch.
