I personally would never buy into the hype of gaming headsets and crap like that. All headsets I find are very prone to breaking so it's good to buy a decent one that sounds good and is comfortable but seriously never spend more than like 25 dollars on one.
Nobody has answered the question. As far as I can see he's asking for a good mic, not a good headset. Maybe he already has a headset with no mic like Sennheiser HD?
Logitech Wireless Desktop Microphone if you're cheap and don't mind the mic to catch a lot of background noise.
Blue Yeti if you want the good stuff. If it's just to talk to friends then it's probably too expensive, but hey, you did ask for a good one.
Idk if you noticed but...those headsets have mics in them. So actually, it did answer the question.

If you want a good mic and not those huge ass headphones with a mic on it, then get a Plantronics Bluetooth. The kind you use to pair with a cell phone. I use a Plantronics which i pair with Skype when I game with a buddy. You get clear, phone call quality audio and it's super light. You forget it's even there.
Sennheiser is by far the best producer of any headphone appliances, I HIGHLY recommend getting sennheiser. I've only read good things about this company.
My best advice would be a headset with a USB interface as this will give you the best voice quality. Analog headsets CAN be great but only if you have a really good sound card as well. I like Sennheiser personally, REALLY comfortable ear padding and great sound quality. I'm sure Razer and Steelseries products are good too, just see what's the best deal online.
Alright here's the thing Gaming headsets usually sacrifice quality of sound for an attached mic, dunno why but they never live up to a good pair of sennheisers and a zalman mic hooked up to the astro mixamp. So here's my advice Run down to a J&R or some other local headphone shop, or go to your friends houses and see the headsets, try em on. This is the biggest factor, YOUR PREFERENCE. A lot of people ask oh well what's the best headset, I can only answer with the one you are most comfortable with. I have TB X41's and Astro A40's and Sennheiser 558's with the zalman mic, and Tritton Ax720's and have used other headsets from friends as well as owning a pair of Siberia V2's (Not the D3 version of this headset) and Razer Megalodons. I love the sennheisers and megalodons the most. The Siberia V2's hurt my ears after 2 hours of use, The TB x41's sound terribly tinny to me, the A40's are Meh. Some people tell me your dumb cause everyone thinks Tb x41's are amazingly bassy, some think Astros are the way to go for perfect soundwhoring. The problem is, everyones different. It depends on how sensitive your ears are to different types of sounds. If it can't take harsher tinnier sounds you might wanna get a headset that's more bass-oriented, It's personal preference but honestly if a headset sounds amazing but hurts your head after 2 hours of use, don't buy it. I bought Siberia v2's which sounded really good, problem was they hurt my ears badly and i'd have to stop gaming and come back after they stopped hurting. My favorites are my sennheiser/zalman clip-on mic/ astro mixamp combo. They have amazing sound reproduction, don't distort at high levels are pretty balanced, and don't get too harsh or muddy, and the mic works fine for what I need, It's not like i want a proffesional mic for Xbox or PS3 anyway. For my pc headset i use megalodons although I could use the sennheisers, These Razer megalodons are also very good, for a gaming headset I'd say they are the best. They don't distort too much, and you can control the levels on every speaker and the bass levels, as well as mic sensitivity and levels. They can do 2.0 or 7.1 modes and are usb connected so you don't have shitloads of wires. The only problem I've had with this headset is the lights on the sides burned out on me, but i don't mind too much because they still work fine anyway.
Whatever you decide though, remember make sure it sounds good to you, only use us as a stepping stone, now that you've heard about different headsets go and try them out, If you buy one that everyone says is amazing and then it turns out to be shit for you then you'll be pissed. Good luck thought!
