So yeah there's a post over there that explains most of the words and stuff:
Quote from name="Ukobach (from battle.net forums)" »
The backdrop in the logo seems to be a combination of two of the figures out of Georg von Welling's Opus Mago-Cabalisticum et Theosophicum (http://www.esoteric.msu.edu/Archive/Welling.html), with:
Ungrund = lit. non-ground, "everything yet nothing, both unification and void"
Systema des Jüngsten Gerichts = system/scheme/order of the last judgement
From the outer to the inner circle:
Böse und verdamte seelen = wicked and damned souls
Die Versucher = the tempters
Die Laesterer = the blasphemers
Die Furien, welche lauter Unglück u. Böses ausstreuen = the furies which spread nothing but misfortune and wickedness
Die Machten in der Lufft herschen = the powers that rule the air / reign over the air
Die Zauberer (praestigiatores) = The sorcerers (conjurers)
Die Raecher der Lasterthaten = the avengers of vice doings
Die Gefaesse der Bosheit = the vessels of malice
Grausame Finsternuss = atrocious darkness
Some kind of "Nine circles of Hell"-theme (not really but something in that vein) going on here, but I guess the D3 art department just incorporated it into the logo 'cause it looks cool.
[edit] So yeah guys, nothing Diablo-related, the person who did the logo got this from some kind of actual archaic diagram of something.
So it's not talking about Belial or Azmodan? or the Temple of Triune? (Azmodan- the tempters) The powers the rule the air (Angels?) It could also refer to perhaps the balance shifting over to heavens favor and there now going to launch a massive attack and not care who gets in the way. Well I'm not going to speculate cause then my wee wittle brain might fry

You need only just ask

Nope, this art is from a book from a long long time ago. Here's a picture from the actual book they got it from:
So it looks like it's nothing related to diablo 3. But this would be stupid... this is the main logo . I hope Cain will explain all this through the story, or maybe blizzard could give some information... sure after d3 is release but still.
There is something behind this... We all can smell it !!
...yes..it has nothing to do with Diablo....
..they just took it cause it looked cool, it was old, and gives this satanistic feeling... and the way they hide it behind the Diablo letters just to add to the whole style, they didnt expect probably for people to look so thoroughly to it...
They obviously didn't realize how obsessive some of us Diablo fans can be.
So to clarify: This was taken as part of the research for the Diablo III logo, nothing meaningful about it aparently.
/thread.
Yea. Seems to me that they just have used this type of old school thinking (Geocentric, Ptolemaic system) and setting as the lore structure behind D3. Being that of a world that is still in it infancy and mystery's are everywhere and truths are hard to fine, etc.
Cool thanks

Would have like to participate but was at school for lab.
But this is still interesting, even if this doesn't seems to be related to diablo, maybe there is still something we don't see oh god blizzard...

That would be silly

I remember this from like 2008, someone posted this, and claimed it was the map for diablo 3. Notice the "Star"?
Here is the original post.

WoW!
Thats interesting. Now I have to wonder if they didnt model the terrain after that old school Ptolemaic system.
I'm thinking along the same guidelines. <_<
Blizz seems to have discredited this in that post above, saying the map was heavily shopped to fit the star map.

Keep in mind this was back in 2009, not now. Also judging by Bash's previous statements, he's known to troll pretty hard.
Guess so, but I think the "omgbbq" city still stands out as a red flag today. Hehehe
Wasn't there a fallout between blizzard and blizzard north? Possibly a disgruntled employee?
Anywho I just thought it was interesting the "Star" was a hot topic and found that post from two years ago.
I just found it extremely coincidental and wanted to share with you guys.
