So, we're getting arguably close to the beta, meaning that we're undoubtedly closer to the release of the game as well. There's still a ton of stuff we don't know, but we've already seen a lot of the new systems that will be new to the third episode of the Diablo series.
However, we're also aware of the fact that some of the features Diablo II had won't be returning. So which one will you miss the most?
Maybe the PVP system? Maybe a specific class? The hirelings? An item, a skill, a monster, maybe even a town?
For me, it's going to be Runewords. Even though the rune system was far from perfect and there was a lot of duping going around, I believe that the idea was very cool, and I'm definitely going to miss it. It was pretty much the perfect long term goal for me. Something that you could slowly achieve, instead of a single item dropping very late into the game with a minuscule drop rate. And some of them were so useful for specific builds, too.
Maybe it would have been too much, but sometimes I do wonder if maybe they could have kept Runewords along with skill runes (using a different set of runes maybe). I was so bummed when they announced they wouldn't!
Tbh i need to play D3 first before really known what i'll miss hehe
But i think i will miss the dark and gritty graphics from D1. Imo if the game background is an depressing situation (earth invaded by hell) the game should make the player depressed too. I'm sure Bashiok would troll me really hard if I suggested that lol
Weapon switch hotkey. I was really used to play Defensive/Offensive or Melee/Ranged sets in D2 (before CTA ruin the systen allowing one weapon set to buff the other).
Other thing i might miss is D2 itemisation. Since D2 no game i've played with random drops made it right. I'm 100% sure this team is totally competent but... If D3 team have a chance to fail in some area, i truelly believe it is the items (because the rest of the game will most likely be perfect).
Hard to tell before I've played the game, however I am afraid of two things missing in the game that weren't or could not be fully confirmed up to this point. Number one is gambling. Arguably there will be so much gold sinking in the game that it's possible we wouldn't have anything left for gambling but when your drops suck and merchants have shitty gear, gambling could sometimes save you as well as provide an interesting way to spend your money when there is absolutely nothing that your character really lacks. Got a good amulet and a lot of money? Hmmm...let's see if we can get a better one.
The second item I am somewhat worried about is the atmospheric music that was present in D1 and D2. I still remember the moment when I first turned on the game, stepped into the Blood Moor and heard the music. There was something about it that gave D2 unfathomable atmosphere that just made you so immersed and so in love with the game. I hope they preserve this in D3 because so far we haven't heard much real music besides ambience and the main theme which was put in various places throughout the gameplay trailers etc instead of the normal themes that would be there. It will be an awesome game regardless but the music just gives it that little artistic extra that differentiates an awesome game from an incredible one.

A soft answer turneth away wrath. Once wrath is looking the other way, shoot it in the head!
Been following D3's development since day 1 and the only time i felt dissapointed about the game was when they announced the followers. The fact they're only viable in normal and not in nightmare and beyong almost killed it for me. i'm prolly one of the few that liked equiping his merc and seeing how far you could push him. With that gone... well... one less fun fact about the game and one extra randomization less
hold on one minute, they wont be in nightmare or hell? shit's just getting worse for me as the day goes on
They're in all difficulties, bashiok just stated that they won't be as useful in NM and be nigh useless in hell.
They can give you more gold find and MF though which could make them useful if you can keep them alive.
I will miss the music, but hell, I can still play it trough iTunes while playing. So I will, for sure, miss nothing.
Yeah this is about how i feel; Maybe the music i'll miss, but blizzard has a tendency to take something good and make it better, and i feel like D3 will be a vast improvement over D2, so it's likely i won't miss anything.
You guys make a good point with the music. I'll definitely miss Matt Uelmen.
Maybe I'm being pessimistic, but I doubt any of the dramatic-epic-movie type of music they could compose would even compare to Matt Uelmen's soundtracks.
So disappointing that they're not working with him anymore...
I will miss LAN, runewords, HBR_347 (ahhh those nights) , 99 Frenzy pve barb with botdez and lwez, Charsi is hot! i'll miss her, necromancer - he was my first pick, and lore behind him, wd lacks of it imho.

And a sudden plunge in the sullen swell. Ten fathoms deep on the road to hell...
The main thing I'll miss is the atmosphere. But perhaps it is better to wait and see, we can't properly judge the game from seeing only a few pre-beta gameplay videos.
I'm not sure if it will be making a return in any way, shape, or form, but I will miss the Arreat Summit (wasnt Mt. Arreat destroyed?). For a LONG time I had a screenshot of my standing on top of the arreat summit overlooking the frigid highlands as my desktop background. Was totally my favorite place in-game.
My place really was here. I was too foolish and stubborn to notice. But, what I truly hoped for then was here. Why do I always realize it When I've already lost it.
Nothing, I still have D1 and D2 installed
I won't miss runewords at all. I had such a hard time in Hell because I didn't know any and lost far too many good runes trying to find the words because there is no way to find them in game. Forcing players to look outside the game itself for some of the best equipment is bad game design.

If that made sense to you, Bravo! I think I even confused myself...

Note: I won't miss the actual monster! Just the sounds, lol.

hahaha jk

I miss all of the sound effects from Diablo I. I think the voice acting will be a let down in Diablo III. I mean compare King Leoric.
Leoric in D1.
Leoric in D3.
The main thing I'll miss is the atmosphere. But perhaps it is better to wait and see, we can't properly judge the game from seeing only a few pre-beta gameplay videos.
