I'm not sure if this was said in a recent posting, but do higher visual tier items have better stat quality than lower ones. For example will a visual tier 10 item have better stats than a visual tier 7 item? I guess it also depends on which tiers drop in which difficulty.
From my understanding the only thing that will make higher tiers better will be if they're from a different difficulty, since the lowest tiers will stop spawning at a certain point they will have a disadvantage towards the higher tiers.
But if you look at tiers within the same difficulty I think stats will be equal, only required level to equip should make one better than the other.
The 'tiers' are purely visual, but advancing in looks will correspond to better stats as well. However, there still may be cases where an item in a lower visual tier is better than an item in a higher tier simply because of the randomized items.
If every one went around wearing shiny armor it wouldn't look right XD you need to have that one badass barbarian in the front with dingy looking ,battle warn, blood soaked armor.

I f-ing hated the shako in Diablo II. I think Blizzard made it just to piss people off and force them to choose between a gay looking cap and good stats. I really hope there aren't gear choices like that in Diablo III.

lol, i think they mentioned that in one of the force podcasts. but i wore that trusty green shako with pride =)
So will unique and set items have the same looks as one of these 18 visual tiers that are being talked about or will they be unique in their visuals too? Meaning even more visual customisation...

That's something we don't know. I'd love to find out though. My thoughts are that set items will be unique in look outside the 18 visual tiers.

Actually at BlizzCon they did show off a unique-looking set for the WD (the one with black tenticles coming out of the back of the helm). I have no doubt that ALL legendaries will have unique looks.
I also doubt that we get crappy legendaries like some of D2's uniques.

Very true, and seeing as the crowd went wild, and the dev said they liked it a lot I'm hopeful they're planning on adding a lot more.
As for the name, I like legendary better honestly :X

But unique sounds better, who cares if it doesn't make sense ^^
It was present in Diablo I and Diablo II, so I really do not understand the issue. Those games were very successful despite the name. If we're talking about logic there are so many much more illogical things in Diablo...
Legendary just sounds like something they took from WoW.

Meh, that's subjective. Legendary sounds cool too.
