The phrase in question is at 14:04 - thanks for being man enough to document your error, doom, there is hope.
This doesn't make sense. They could very well just put the % fee the moment you sell an item on the RMAH.
Then it will become a little too much don't you think ? The whole point is that players should choose either Blizzard Store or buy another item from RMAH with the money they earned.
I get that they wants us to interest us in someway to keep the money into the virtual account instead of cashing out.
But if they take a % from cashing out, than it goes against what they've said earlier - that flat feels are to keep Blizz's hands clean if someone posts(and sells) items for crazy amounts of money, they won't encourage it for their own profit, it's all in the players hands; that any future changes on an item's stats will affect the economy.
YES! And FURTHERMORE (forgive me if I sound like I'm yelling because I'm madder than hell!!), Jay Wilson said specifically that they're not going to benefit from sales. If they take that back after 2 weeks, what kind of faith can we have in Blizzard?
Yeah doom is right, by taking a % for cashing out they are going against what was said earlier that no matter how much an item sold for it wouldn't affect them.
Also, I'm not sure if they said it explicitly, but I think most players until today (myself included) were under the impression that the cash out fee like the other ones will be a fixed flat fee. I wonder if there is an interview somewhere in which they said it or it just seemed reasonable until now by what they said.
I still dont understand the fuss. There taken a % out when we cash it....so? if it wasnt for them and this game... we wouldnt get any money at all from items... so... take all the % they want, free money is free. [Free compared to not haven a RMAH at all]

Lol..your obviously missing the point here.If we cash out 1000$ and the fee is 10% they will take 100$ which is freaking a lot of money for their pockets. You have any idea how much they are going to win only from people cashing out every year ? Milions.
And your missing the point, If they didint put the resources into this game, and the RMAH, I wouldnt be ale to cash out for that $1000($900) in the first place.
Im not gonna complain for them taken a % out of something I wouldnt have had to begin with if it wasnt for them.

So the issue is that they take a slice? Because last time I watched, e-bay took a slice. Other companies had stores that simply generated the items and got all the pie. Molsterr's point is that "we get 90% of the pie instead of a small piece (or nothing) and we're still complaining".
Up to 10% it should be good indeed. But I'm still not ungrateful for an opportunity to make some money out of it. Either way, I plan to have some e-currency on my account from my free listings. But I highly doubt people will pay as much as 100$, not to mention the outrageous amount of 1000$ some may have said. Sounds too much even for fully geared lvl 60 characters.

D2 chars have had sales that high, though it has been a while.
I find the RMAH to be disgusting and saddening - like seeing on old friend working as a prostitute - but I confess, the economics of it will be interesting, the best items could ultimately peak at $100 or even go for ten times that.
Don't forget it's a game after all. I'm sure most of you were here also before the announcement of the RMAH meaning you intended to play the game and have fun, not as a means to earning money.
So regardless of how worthwhile or not worthwhile cashing out of the RMAH is, you always have the option of just not cashing out and playing it as you intended before the RMAH announcement.
Of course it is all highly speculative and until after release that we see actual fees and actual item prices on the AH nobody will be able to completely make up their minds about it.

Oh for sure, I think they were using that number as a even statics though for showing a chuck of 10% =P.
Its going to be a very long time before someone makes $1000 imo.
I'm sick and tired of people saying this doesn't fucking matter. It fucking matters. Why the hell would I NOT illegally go with a 3rd party service to do my buying now (assuming I'm a buyer)? The businesses/farmers will always be cheaper because there isn't a percentage taken off.
It's quite amusing. With Diablo II we had the most inconvenient way to trade ever. Diablo III offers us 2 solid, convenient ways (in addition to the one of Diablo II) and yet way more people are complaining!
The face-to-face bartering system had a certain charm that you don't see in modern online games.
It was still extremely inconvenient and spammy to get your item sold, not to mention sold without one of the people involved getting completely ripped off. And it's also availiable in Diablo III. If it won't be used it shows it's not good enough.
I will repeat what I said since my post was too vulgar. I will rephrase. And I do apologize.
You can't say this doesn't matter. It does matter. It matters because why would I (as a buyer) want to go with Blizzard RMAH when I can illegally go with a 3rd party seller who doesn't take a percentage off the final price?

because most of us dont want to do that, and wont. Going through blizzard is a 100% safe way to do it. Users dont need to search around for a third party site, and then do research to see if its safe.
I get what your saying.. but compared to the overall playerbase who would do that... it just dosnt mean much in the end.
Buyers would still use the RMAH, as they lose nothing by using it.
Illegal 3rd party sites are illegal. Which very much means that if caught doing such trades you're very likely to lose all money invested and your time and money used to actually buy the game. Not to mention the possibility of being scammed.
The reason why this is so darned aggravating is because (a) I was essentially lied to, (B) I based my entire opinion of the RMAH on that knowledge, and (c) had plans to really do a lot of selling, and now those plans seem FAR less attractive.
Plus, if you look at all the transactions, in the end, you could end up getting about 60-75% of the actual final price if you take into consideration all the taxes put together.
There are still gold selling and other grinding services and character sales as well going on in WoW to this day... If it wasn't worth it people wouldn't practice it.
And there are still accounts being suspended for it. Out of the quite a few million subscribers of WoW, no doubt some will pay 3rd party sites and then pay the price for it.
If your referring to the % being the part you were lied about.... then... no you were not lied to. You read it as that, however nowhere did they say anything about the cash out fees, you just guessed there wasnt going to be a % =P

Guilty. But it wasn't really contributing to the conversation, so it was fully justified if you think of it.

Funny, the apologists are always so quick with the "Hur-Dur they're a business" line.
I guess Rob gave us the addendum to that one today.

We'll see if the chinese itemfarmers feel that way next summer.

Too much of a risk if you ask me.
