I probably won't really buy things from the RMAH....But I will definitely sell my ass off.
So will you and everyone else. Haha
The interesting thing is that most of the buyers are likely to be people who wouldn't be coming to a fansite of a game well before its release. Even if everyone who said they plan to only, or mostly, sell were being truthful (or at least accurate), there is still a massive pool of buyers to be had.
I think there should be an option for you to use your own gear and char for pvp. Just for casual pvp; not serious pvp. Just think of it as closed and open bnet. For those who enjoy the overpowered side of player killing. They can still pimp out their char using auction house if they like. For serious pvp; this might be restricted to make things fair. Its a great option to satisfied both gamers.
Wow. Would have been an excellent podcast had you cut off the last 30 seconds. No one is surprised to hear you guys talk about pvp at length but are the opinions of the people who disagree with you less valuable somehow. Calling them all care-bears was unprofessional and rude. I expect that from wow general chat but I honestly think that was below you guys. Might want to reconsider making fun of half of your fan base next time.
Some people complain so much about the RMAH that makes us even forget about how the AH will be awesome after all...
I just remembered my early D2 days trying to trade items in the chat channel spamming a summarized list of my items and waiting for someone to whisper with an offer. Or may entering games with the "TRADE" title and waiting for ages for someone with gear that interested me to appear and make offers that normally weren't good for me at all. All the games "ITEM X FT" that I had to rush into before someone took the item.
The AH in D3 may not be perfect, but it will be awesome nonetheless.
I will buy and sell as well, not only in the sense of attempting to "play the market" but also looking to cheap deals to speed up the gaming process.
If there is low demand for spending real $$ (which I honestly doubt) while there will be insanely high supply (because people are simply claiming that they will only sell, which I also highly doubt) then I will only be happier to spend $1 to get millions of gold/items that'll take years of farming to acquire.
I believe that the people who spend $$ to buy in game items are not the minority, it is just they tend to hide in the shadows, or are simply hypocrites.
I believe the true minority are those that will never use the auctionhouse due to some principles. For those of you claim to be one of those people, I would like to know who you are, what you stand for, and hopefully track you for an update 1-2-8 years down the line after release.
This is ultimately the reason why many claim to not like the RMAH. People are easily tempted, the weak-willed majority are simply too afraid that legitimizing the system will only serve to break them, however they will rarely admit that fact.
Why cant people simply admit that the reason why they feel that the RMAH should not be legitimized is because gaming is used as a fantasy tool to escape from the harsh reality of our capitalistic society?
Poor poll options. "Preference" implies one or the other so it really doesn't make sense to have an option for both.
EDIT: I should probably take this time to talk about how to design a poll for future reference. Poll options should be exclusive and exhaustive. Exclusive means that it should be impossible for multiple poll options to be true simultaneously. So, a choice of option A would totally exclude options B, C, and D. Exhaustive means that all possibilities must be accounted for. Here's an example:
Do you like the taste of chocolate?
A) Yes
No
C) I've never tasted chocolate
The poll options are exclusive - it's only possible for a person to fall within one of these categories. The options are also exhaustive - it's impossible for a person not to be described by one of these categories.
A poll must follow those two principles in order to draw any statistically valid conclusions (which is the whole point a poll). Obviously, the other consideration is to the set for which you can apply those conclusions to, but that's another topic.
Just some thoughts that came up during the cast. First with spoilers I think hearing about the game is totally different than actually playing for yourself. Next I see the new possible rune system like I see gear people are going to grind for those perfect sets of affixes to gear so whaat the difference with rune? Sure it will be hard to get ur lvl 7 rune but I think that's part of the fun. Also runes won't ever be trash, just because a particular rune doesn't work for you doesn't mean someone else wont find it viable.
Pvp wasn't supported in D2 except that you could kill other players. The way I look at it D3 already has way more features in place than d2 had and besides D2 was very competitive even without those features so I wouldn't just yet let this get to you pvpers I don't see anything wrong with the current system in place. They can only improve on this in the long run. Also don't worry about what gear someone has jay and bashiok have already explained that matchmaking will definately differentiate by ur gear.
So these are just a few of my own thoughts of why people shouldn't be raging so much.
the people complaining about d3 are forgetting everything that was wrong with d2. d3 is fixing the things that were wrong and keeping the things that were right. but people fear change like cavemen feared fire. i do wish pvp had a ladder or ranking and such but those things will probably be done by 3rd party sites along with tournaments.
What everyone doesnt realize is that most people, whether they intended to or not, will always convert their sales into an e-balance and then use the e-balance to buy other items. At least that is how I see it. You are going to use/play both auction houses...

I disagree with the comments of the beta test being limited to 5-7 hours and then you're finished, with nothing to do.
There's plenty to do - a blue post (or a few) have stated that they are open to feedback on gameplay, systems, and potential bugs/exploits found.
I don't look at the beta as a way to get a quick fix, but as an opportunity to give feedback with potential to make it better for everyone.
D2 beta became more than just Act 1. Maybe the public beta stress test was limited to that act only, but the testing worth getting your name mentioned in the credits eventually went through Big D.
@gabbzy, there will be tons of buyers. we are the minority not the majority. the majority of players will be noobs who do buy in game items with money cause it's easier.
At this rate everyone is only selling items on the RMAH so there will be no buyers...just saying
Your wrong... there will be plenty buyers.... Why?
1. Casual player that works full time job that has no time to farm gears for pve or pvp.
2. Buy low/Sell High people
3. People that sold stuff... uses that money to buy other stuff without cashing out.
4. People are desperate.
5. Rich Kids
I'm still not sold on the idea of the RMAH... I think I will resist it for as long as possible then spend an entire paycheck on gear... and maybe every paycheck after that. I will certainly be trying to sell anything valuable from day 1 however.
Ambiguous Mouse-Mime demands attention!

edit: grama ez da beist
why is everyone so sensitive lately?!

I am not against the RMAH, but I prefer to enjoy the game and not take half the game away from myself by buying gear.

I have a feeling everyone will adopt this method.

IMO RMAH won't be broken unless blizzard lets botting, hacking, duping etc run rampant like in d2. *coughdailyitemauditspleasecough*
