NOTE: the other weapon (Offhand) to use is Lion's Claw
I can't get it registered in the build but it's a vital part so don't overlook this
When not pushing Solo GR's or while speed running, try replacing Unity with a Ring of Royal Grandeur and then equip a Madstone. It is a nice extra to the build that sadly can't be fitted in when you optimize
Gemming:
Helm - Diamond (for cooldown reduction)
Weapons (both) - Emerald (your offhand being an actual weapon, this will also be the Critical Hit Damage buff!)
The rest - Emerald (for damage) or Diamond (for toughness)

Build Guide
This will be my build for S8 to start off with. Mind you, this might not be the best Monk build but it will get you quite far. If you are like me and you at least want to start with the season set and see where it can get you, then this build is for you. This build relies a lot on the powers on your items so remember to pray to the RNG-Gods so you get them early on
My companion will be a Templar with the following set-up:
Skills: Heal, Intimidate, Charge, Inspire
Relic: Enchanting Favor
Rings: Unity, Wyrdward,Justice Lantern
Weapon: Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker
Shield: Freeze of Deflection
There are 3 rings mentioned for the follower, because until I have acquired two Unity rings, I'll use both the Wyrdward and Justice Lantern.
When I have the two Unity rings, The weakest of the other two rings will be replaced with a Unity
What is the CDR % that we need to reach?
if you aren't using unity I see the ring suggestions but no where do I see what neck you should be using. I often play with my husband so unity is about never an viable option especially as it seems so rare, so it would be awesome if you say what is best.
@mignight2k3
There is no specific CDR goal, just try to max it on the items mentioned (Weapons, Rings, Gloves and Shoulders). With the Gogok your CDR will be variable anyway. The goal is to get fast Seven Sides Strikes because those will trigger your Exploding Palm and as a bonus you ar immune during the animation.
@Wynne_ER
If you don't use the Unity Ring, you get the option of using the Ring of Royal Grandeur. That enables you to swap one set item (head of shoulder) for Madstone (head) or Lefebvre’s Soliloquy (shoulder). Then cube the other. There might be a better Ring alternative but boy, is it fun to have your Seven Sided Strike apply Exploding Palm when it's not there yet.
There is no need to replace the amulet. That one (The Traveler's Pledge) goes with your other ring (The Compass Rose) for the set bonus.
what offhand should I use?
@KlevenTime
Like my description says: Lion's Claw.
It's not in the item list of DiabloFans.com so I can't select it. That's why I listed it separately with a link to the Blizzard Armory.
Does mythic rythim automaticliy apply with ulian's 2 pcs set? or we have to apply it by manually?
@mardukstarmetal
Both Mythic Rhythm is automatically applied on the 2-piece Exploding Palm because it counts as a spender. Exploding Palm doesn't reapply to mobs though so that means that if you hit 3 times on a mob that already has Exploding Palm active, you yourself get the Mythic Rhythm buff so that will apply to your next spender (for instance your Seven Sides Strike).
Fixed an issue where Mythic Rhythm would be consumed by Exploding Palms cast by the Uliana's 2-piece bonus.
And exploding palm will not be overwritten even the new one is stronger (with MR 40% buff)
So, you have to use generator to hit for 3 times, popping up MR buff, dash to a remote mob(which was not tainted<_< by Uliana's 2pcs), manually apply exploding palm
Otherwise, your MR will be buffing SSS only.

thanks for clearance... i badly need to know. so ''mr'' is not worth to use especially speed farm builds in my side
@mardukstarmetal
Indeed, I missed that Mythic Rhythm in combination with the 2-piece bonus has been changed. For speedruns I would change Mythic Rhythm for Determination (damage) or The Guardian's Path (Speed due to extra spirit).
For people who are not pushing high level gameplay or reaching the highest possible GR's with this build I would also advice changing Mythic Rhythm for Determination. For those that do push the limits, keep Mythic Rhythm and apply the Exploding Palm manually on new groups to make use of the buff. Also take a look at "snapshotting" in that case.
for speed, like T13 rifts and GR~55
I will put madstone in cube, Fleet Footed to replace MR, Mantra with movement speed to replace CS.
All you have to do is, dash/walk, SSS, and epiphany will do the spirit regen work.
When you can clear GR60+ with ease, you can use this setup for speed farm.
my build is ''broken promises'' version of this. to be honest ''BP'' ver. is best way to go. i focused only CDR and CD.
so i got an enourmous damage. first 5 hit is just to proc BP and EP all the mobs around you. when you see EP's on monsters thats
mean , time to apply SSS. very simple and effective
%50 cdr is ok without gogok i ve got sss both shoulder and chest. it is better imo.
here is the build

is travelers pledge set combo more dmg output then focus restraint? and does it work while sss?
bump
I got the technical reasoning behind this build from Icy-Veins. Here is the build over on Icy-Veins: http://www.icy-veins.com/d3/monk-ulianas-strategem-seven-sided-strike-build-patch-2-4-3-season-9, I would say that there they are best equipped to anwser any other technical questions people might have about this build.
I moved on to a Crusader for Season 9. Every season I pick a new class depending on the free set I like and to keep it fresh.
For like-minded people who choose Crusader for this Season:
- [S9] Thorns of the Invoker - Crusader Starter Set
- [S9] Legacy of Nightmares - Crusader Thorns/Bombardment
