- Hellfire Event will be change in 2.3 - the preview was meant to preview new information.
- Keywardens will drop straight up Infernal Machines rather than Keys and the Hellfire Amulet has a built-in socket.
- Kanai's Cube is like a new Artisan - acquired by completing a quest in the new zone (only in Adventure Mode), and accessible on all Acts' Town Hub.
- It's a collection system meant to, among other benefits, help players deal with hoarding cool items "just in case" you want to use them in the future.
- You find a Legendary item and extract its essence into the Cube.
- You can then "equip" your hero with one affix from each type of item: Weapon, Armor and Jewelry.
- The Armor slot encompasses: Boots, Pants, Helmet, Shoulders, Bracers, Chest Armor, Gloves and Belt.
- The Weapon slot encompasses both weapons and off-hand items (Quivers, Mojos, Sources, Shields).
- You cannot equip a Legendary Affix from another class (so no Calamity bonus for Barbarians).
- Ancestor's Grace and Hellfire Amulet passives cannot be extracted into the Cube.
- Kanai's Cube passive bonuses do not compete with Class Passives - they're independent.
- Affixes with variable rolls retain their maximum roll in the Cube - it's meant to be a collection system, not a progression-based one.
- In the current iteration the Cube will let players know what Legendary Powers they are missing!
Patch 2.3 Blue Posts Round-Up

Patch 2.3 on Consoles
The current plan is to deploy the PS4 and Xbox One patch at the same time as the PC as we have previously done. This is subject to change, though, so we'll be sure to keep you all updated as we get closer to the patch date. (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)
Hellfire Event Changes
Will we see any changes in patch 2.3.0?!? As I remember I saw a post or video of the devs saying that there will be changes in a/the next content patch. Can we get any update on this as for now the event and the crafting of the amulet is so !@#$ed up that I don't even want to start bother with it?!?This is a very large patch so we were unable to fit ALL the awesome changes into the preview blog. There are changes to the Hellfire event structure coming in the next patch. Keywardens will now directly drop Infernal Machines instead of Keys and the Hellfire Amulet now has a socket built in.
Check them out once they hit ptr and let us know what you all think! =) (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)
Kanai's Cube Questions and Clarifications!
The Cube, for all intents and purposes, is like a new artisan. Once it's acquired (by completing a quest in the new Ruins of Sescheron zone), you'll be able to access it in each of the Act hubs. This unlock also works similarly to other artisans — you'll need to unlock it once in each game mode (Hardcore, Normal, Normal Seasonal, Hardcore Seasonal).
This does also mean that, like leveling up your Blacksmith or Jeweler, you'll need to unlock it each Season. It's a pretty quick process, though.I guess the logical follow-up question here would be, how does this work in Adventure Mode? The Ruins of Sescheron do not appear in Campaign mode — they are an Adventure Mode exclusive. As a byproduct, unlocking Kanai's Cube requires Adventure Mode. (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)
So... If I put in a RRG, and I also have one equipped, 2 less pieces required? It would be similar to what happens if you attempted to equip two Ring of Royal Grandeur — you can only benefit from one. In short, powers that originate from the same Legendary don't stack.
Think of it this way: Equipping a power from a Legendary power via Kanai's Cube is just like equipping the item itself, only it does not take up an equipment slot. There are a lot of little nuances to explain regarding this new feature, and we'll have a more focused, in-depth blog on it in the (near) future. (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)
Will it indicate which special powers are still missing? The current plan is that it will so that players know what Legendary items they're still missing. Of course, it's still a work in progress.

Question. Is Armor ARMOR, or ALL armors? Bracers/Gloves/EtcThe armor slot for Kanai's Cube currently encompasses every slot except weapons and jewelry. So, for example, the cube could give you the Legendary power from Lut Socks, or Leoric's Crown, but not both. (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)
I'm really excited for you all to get your hands on the cube during the ptr but in the interim I'll help answer some of the outstanding questions that are lingering.
question is... can you use the hellskull passive while not using a shield?Yes you can!
So now, I'm wondering how the game will track Legendary abilities that have roll ranges? Store all the ranges you've melted down? Over-write with the best one?Powers that are extracted into the cube are extracted at their maximum power.
OK, so a monk could (for example) suck the leg power out of a Flying Dragon, a Julia's Cameo, and a Crudest Boots; freeing up those slots for other goodies (including going full retar.... err, full Inna's EDIT: and dual-wielding fisticles, for example? That's 1 weapon power, 1 jewelry power, and 1 armor power. Make it happen! (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)
So items that require a shield block to proc can still proc if they are not using a shield? Does it become an on hit proc? That's incredible.Hellskull increases damage while wielding a 2h weapon. That power can be used without requiring a shield to be equipped. If you want to trigger an on block effect from a power you will need a way to block or it won't be able to trigger.
Follow up. Earlier Grim mentioned Leoric's Crown which begs the question: How does that work? It relies on specifying a gem type. Does it prompt the user to pick which gem type the effect should boost when selected? Similar situation with the Broken Crown. Does it require the user to have a gem in their helm and that is what is used in the passive effect? In both of these cases it will give you the benefit based on whatever gem you have socketed into your helm. (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)
Travis, thank you for this clarification.
This leads me to a question though. Does this mean that the cube will store every item sacrificed to it and you choose from a drop down list what passive you'd like to use?
If so, the stash saving applications for this item are incredible and the ability to find a usable ancient weapon for your class / spec has effectively doubled.
There are other concerns though with longevity being slightly impacted but that shouldn't pose much of an issue.
However, if the item only stores the power for the last item fed to it the hoarding problems have been greatly exacerbated.
Could you clarify how selecting a passive works? The primary function of the cube is to serve as a collection system to allow you to accumulate powers from items and then assign the powers you want to use. This has a lot of benefits one of which is hopefully to help free up some of that stash space that players, like me, are using to save cool items "just in case". Now instead of keeping 1 of every cool item in my stash you can simply extract it's power for later use.
Anytime you extract a power from an item it is added to your collection of powers. You can enabled any power you have ever extracted, within each specific game type. To assign powers you will access the cube in town and from there are able to allocate whatever power you like based on the 1 Weapon, 1 Armor, 1 Jewelry rule of the cube.
I'm really excited to see what kind of awesome builds everyone comes up with now that they have far more options at their disposal! (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)
Ancestors Grace can't be extracted into the cube and it is not a season only feature. (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)
Stopping by to say that powers assigned with the cube do not compete with normal passives.
I hope you guys enjoy the feature, won't spoil anything here but definitely check it out on the PTR when it launches and give us any thoughts or feedback you have. (Reddit)
You can only assign powers that you would normally be able to use so no Calamity on Barbs or Flying Dragon on Demon Hunters. (Reddit)
Anything that goes in your main or offhand is part of the weapon category for the purposes of the cube. (Reddit)
If you want to wear an immunity neck and infuse yourself with a second immunity you can absolutely do that. (Reddit)
No double dipping, you can only have one instance of a power active. Also the Hellfire Amulet passives cannot be extracted via the cube. (Reddit)
Powers extracted via the cube are accessible the same way that paragon levels are. They are account wide per game type, Normal, Hardcore, Seasonal Normal, Seasonal Hardcore. (Reddit)
We discussed a lot of ideas on how we wanted the extraction process to work. We discussed powers extracting at the level of the item, we discussed powers extracting at the lowest power and upgrading by extracting more of the same item. We ultimately decided that extracting a power would give you it's full potential because we want the feature to be a collection system, not a progression system.
There are already tons of things to upgrade, you can always get better rolls on an item, you can always get more paragon levels, we didn't want this system to feel like a grind or to have players regret extracting a power because it was a low value. (Reddit)
this feels like a bad thing to do. if you find a 40% furnace then it gives you 50%..
im all for free power but this just makes it stupid and easy to get (granted you get a furnace to drop)
But it's better to think of it like this. Now you don't have to be tied down to a furnace. You can get a furnace, and then whatever other weapon that will probably be more fun than just a damage increase! FREEDOM!
I like the fact that it will store the max roll. Over the course of 800 paragons season and 750 non-season I am yet to see a furnace with max (or near max) elite dmg rolls. Same goes for many, many other items.
Too much RNG just ends up killing the game for many. Most friends of mine just stopped playing because of it.
I'm personally wondering exactly what is considered by blizzard to be worthy of being called a legendary power.
Will they accept ones like the furnace with a flat bonus like that, or will that be deemed too boring and not make the cut?
They said that for varying legendary powers, they will take the max value, but that could mean for things like Krider that roll 3-4 hatred gen and such, and not also mean things like the Furnace.
That said, i do hope that isn't the case, as I would Love to nab the 30% RcR from cindercoat, which would most certainly hit the same 'too boring' category...
the thing that really needs to be clarified is this 1/1/1 limit, is it simply you can only have 1 legendary power active on a ring/amulet slot, or can i have 1 power on all 3 of these slots, is it slot restricted or simply 1 power per item in that slot, like in the quotes above it says "want a second immunity on an amulet, go do it" does this mean i could have say a mara's and then infuse it with a star of azkaranth, and then i'm locked out from using anything on my rings, or can i use this power setup, then put one on each of my rings, similarly does the same thing go for main armour slot items, can i equip say a legendary power on all my armour slot items, just i am limited to 1 power on each item only, or is it 1 power regardless of slot type, so i have to choose if i want it on my chest say, or boots, but not both, and will it work for all weapon slots as in can i get a power on my main hand weapon, and then have one also on my wizard source, or do i have to pick one slot and be done with it? soo many things to clarify, so little time!
It will be account wide relative to game mode(seasonal, normal, hardcore). Once it is unlocked it's like any other artisan.
Nope. No something else. You have understood the description correctly. Currently one legendary effect from each equipment type(weapon, armor, jewelry) can be active at any one time.
Each equipment piece fits under a larger group. Jewelry encompasses both rings and your amulets. Weapons cover anything that can go into your main or offhand(that includes shields, quivers, mojo's, sources etc). Armor has the largest pool and that's everything not covered by the previous two. You can only have one active legendary effect from any of those pools at any one time.
In the example Travis Day posted that you can cube an immunity amulet and then equip another immunity amulet on the character. He was not meaning to imply that he was also cubing the second amulet.
Hope that clears things up a bit.
Scaling according current torment scaling
Torment 6 : 8 590% HP 2540% Damage 131% leg drop
Torment 7 : 13 744% HP 3682% Damage 165%? leg drop
Torment 8 : 21 990% HP 5339% Damage 205%? leg drop
Torment 9 : 35 184% HP 7741% Damage 251%? leg drop
Torment 10 56 295% HP 11 225% Damage 304%? leg drop
Great, now I'll have to get a Furnace And a Blade of Prophecy on my Crusader
Wow... This patch is like... Expansion good. I would honestly pay money for new zone + Cube + hellfire tweaks :p.
Kinda makes me thing that we won't be seeing a Diablo Xpac for a while though...
But now the big question... I'm a DW monk, should I nom a flying Dragon for the insane Asp proc or a Furname for the awesome Elite Damage...
If cubing legendaries immediately retain max rolls. What about those like the lightning ball quiver, which in my eyes the less the value the better?
Fixed legendary effects should be in hand (calamity, flying dragon, rimeheart), and variable legendary effects should be in cube (furnace, sun keeper), because they always roll max effect, but depends, if you already have a godlike rng gear equipped, then you can put anything in the cube.
I'm hoping that in this one special case they consider rewording it and retroactively applying the change. "Lightning ball moves 60-70% slower than normal." In all the topic scrounging on reddit and the official forum there is no official answer so far.
have a sucky flying dragon. Get ancient furnace. No problems. Gonna be so much better
My guess is that you get the lowest rolls on things where lower is better and max on other
so basically i can have lets say ring of royal grandeur legendary power trasnferred to my "focus" ring, and that means now i am locked out of "jewellery" as an option and cannot use any further legendary powers on a jewellery item, and for weapons, i either use it on my main hand weapon, or off hand, not both, and armour i must select carefully because if i use say the attack speed bonus of a pair of TnT's on my glove slot, i am unable then to add any further legendary powers to any of my other items (unless i unequip that previous item and add a new power to a new item in the item pool)?
Equipping a Legendary Power and unequipping doesn't seem to have a cost associated with it, or any downsides for that matter. You're not "locked out" forever out of other powers from that category, just while you have that one "equipped" on the Cube.
From what I understood you find the item, extract its essence (maybe destroying the item?) and then you can use its Legendary Affix whenever you want. It's not a system meant to limt you and lock you into 1-2 choices - it's meant to give you freedom of choice instead.
I'm sure they will look at this but It really dosen't effect that much. Just equip the good low rolled lightningball quiver. And use the cube for the other effect you are looking to combine it with, guess it would only matter if you had two items you wanted min rolled of the same item type.
thats now what i ment. i am all for the fact of taking the affix for other use. however im not all about the fact of if you extract a 40% u get a 50% because its maxxed. just my opinion
