posted a message on Hi I'm a HC hoarder, please help!
I find myself hoarding tons and tons of gear. Especially now that I've been playing a while I tend to get bored and just craft 10 gloves or bracers or something. I just can't seem to salvage ones that look decent, cause I just never know when I'll need them.

Now it's gotten to where I have an entire alt filled with max gear and a full page in my stash all just backup gear.

How do you all manage your backup gear when you hit max level to avoid having 10+ of every item?

Anyone have recommendations for me on how to quickly and easily go through this now massive pile of gear to find the pieces that just aren't worth keeping?

The various crypts can be a good way to get a quick stack as well. They have packs as well as events and are right near the Cemetery which sometimes has a pack in it anyway

Was playing around with Thunderstrike and have to say it rocks. Pair that with a good cyclone strike monk and it almost seems faster to me than even a ww build. Just wish I wasn't so fearful of dying... I kept rend around just in case but found myself barely ever using it.

posted a message on Public Game Barb Builds?
Curious if any other Barbs are thinking about doing more public games or group games in general. I typically have been playing WW for the speed it provides, but in a group of 4 it's not really an ideal build. However, on some other builds I do feel a lot slower and less efficient.

What builds people are using to try and farm with speed while playing with full groups?

Edit: I also mainly play hardcore... and like being a little over cautious

I'd cry if they did a rollback... finally got my IK Stride in HC last night, and also found a nice 2 socket manticore with LS.

posted a message on 1.0.8 Farming Areas
Me and a friend are going to try and do some timed runs, only done a small number so far so don't have a ton of data... but, here's around what we've found. please note, this is hardcore so we won't be turning the MP up too high.
    Act 1 (MP1, two players): ~35.7m xp gained in 33 minutes, 1m xp/min.
    Route: Festering -> Cemetery -> Weeping - > Fields -> Leorics -> Northern Highlands -> Halls 1 -> Halls 2 -> Warden -> Halls 3

    Act 2: (MP1, 2 players): ~31m xp in 35 mins, 900k xp/min
Route: Black Canyon -> Road south to Maghda -> Road North -> Oasis -> Desolate Sands -> VoA -> Archives

    Act 3 (mp1, 2 players): ~19m xp, 25 mins, 750k xp/min
    Route: Arreat -> Tower 1 -> Keep 3 - > Keep 2 -> Skycrown -> AC2 -> Rakkis incl fields

So far just 1 run for each. Plan on doing a massive track of each zone to see where the big areas are compared to others. But we also are doing a lot of gear hunting and both enjoy longer runs to shorter with repetitiveness.

posted a message on Nerf to WotB:ToC what are us Barbs going to do now? (New build to tryout)
My Hardcore barb will cry if they make this change...

Gearing to the point of perma wrath is actually not that simple in hardcore, has taken me quite a while and I'm still not 100% there as it requires some tradeoffs (dropping shield... something I'm not quite ready to do).

But... I understand that Hardcore is just one part of the game and they need to look at the game as a whole. Considering I can't perma-wrath now it won't really impact me all that much anyway. But it's been something I've been slowly working towards as a goal.

It would be nice to have more carrots on sticks along the way. The grind to 100 starts getting pretty slow in the 60s, so having something enticing near the end would be nice.

Maybe at 70 you gain 5% movement speed. At 80 you gain 10 pickup radius. At 90 you gain 50 RA. At 100 you gain 1% IAS, 1% CC, 10% CD or something... Small boosts, but enough to make the journey feel worthwhile but not so much as to feel like you are gimped without it.

posted a message on Thinking of starting HC.
Be patient and be afraid, very afraid. The times I have lost characters was because I was overconfident or stopped paying attention to what was happening.

Hardcore is a lot about risk/reward... and minimizing that risk as best as possible in order to achieve the reward you are seeking. Don't get motivated to do things your character isn't ready to do yet simply because you see others doing it.

posted a message on The Case For Buffing Life Per Second: An Analysis Of Sustain Options For The Discerning Devilkiller
Very interesting topic... when I started out in hardcore I was stacking LoH exclusively until a shining beacon in the sky turned out to be a 500 LPS Skysplitter. For the next 10 paragon levels or so while I was getting my feet wet in hardcore, LPS+LoH was how I lived. I was very close to feeling like I was immortal (at least on low MP) - and the side benefit was that I felt like a random disconnect wouldn't necessarily kill me.

With passives and various other skills, my undergeared barb was able to manage around 3400 LPS with another 800 LoH. Resistances were probably around 700-800, with maybe 8k buffed armor and 55-60k health. Overkill, most likely, but I wanted to get through Inferno for the first time without dying so it made sense for me at the time. I also had no money and no viable gear options.

Point being: even now, for some classes, LPS is definitely viable for a super tank experience. I still have a lot of that LPS/LoH combo gear and if I ever did decide to go and farm higher MP I feel confident I could live.... it just might take an hour or two to kill an elite pack :)

posted a message on Endless Dungeons
Only thing I can really imagine is lifting the "you die you're done" part of hardcore... which is tough. I just don't know if that would really appeal to people. As a hardcore player I personally wouldn't mind "dying" in a specific event and then just going back to town and being actually alive..... but on the flip side, I would be worried that actually dying in any situation would make me lazy in other situations. Even when I switch back to core for a while, there's some adjustment when back in hardcore in terms of avoiding damage.

I also wonder if they could implement it in a way that allows you to "stop" the event at given points. In this case, a hardcore player could practice on core and understand that they could easily handle up to wave 5 but not beyond. I've done something similar to practice ubers. I load up core with gear as close as I can manage, and try them with my group in various monster powers with different builds and strategies to see which is safest.

My understanding is that a lot of the developers play hardcore, so I can't see them adding something to the game that wouldn't be tailored to work for that crowd.

If you want suspense opening a door? Go down to Keep Depths 2 on Hardcore. Any door could have your doom behind it.

posted a message on Powerleveling in Hardcore
Was doing some of this last night and ran into some of the same problems around keeping people alive.

What we found was working a bit better was trying to avoid areas where enemies are known to appear after the fact. Keep Depths 1 is a good bet, as there aren't many cases where you get random spawns (some ceiling drops but not many).

Act 3 is a lot more xp than act 1, so it's worth trying to figure it out if possible.

We didn't try this, but it could also be helpful to get to a moderate level and then just spend some gold on the AH to pick up armor/vitality. That way you aren't being 1 shot by random things giving a tiny bit of survival.

    Good luck!

posted a message on 2hand WW barb speed build, 80+m/hour 6-7min clears
Thanks for the tip. I've been using a variation of this with my 2H and really enjoying it a lot. I pretty much roll through MP2 or MP3 with this and have been averaging about 52m xp per hour. Working on getting to a 6-8 minute run, but I just can't stop myself from looking at shiny things on the ground and that adds time

posted a message on Any news from Blizzard about.. anything?
I'm also wondering when we might start hearing first info on what the next update might be. Usually that happens quite a ways ahead of release, or even PTR. Is the next patch PvP or is there another release of 1.0.6 before we get to the PvP patch?

Really looking forward to what Blizzard has in store for players. As others in the thread have mentioned, they've already made a ton of improvements to the game to make things interesting.
