My old Hdin had about 400%, I mf'ed a Perf Hoz, P l Facet, P Nightwings, P fathom.... the list goes on.
I really don't think it matters where you go to MF. sure some spots have tougher mosters which always drop good amounts of gold and items ( Trav, Fridgid) but I found the perf Hoz in normal tristy in a solo game... it's all just random luck and patience.

I definitely want to see something after lvl 99 (if that is where the lvl cap is)... If it were up to me there would be no lvl cap at all... only a skill cap.
Maybe these "fame" lvl's you speak of could be used to reach hidden area's/ lvl's (secret cow level, Uber trist ext) I really want to see more of that. Or possibly they could earn you discounts on vendor prices... they need to have some kind of effect.
The next gen consoles are right around the bend.:D;)
Until then you have Starcraft 2 (soon) and probably (hoping this year) Diablo 3 to contend with. Owning a ps3 and a 360.. I find recently they just collect dust aside from playing the odd movie.
I was seriously unimpressed by both the 360 and the ps3. They have some good points... but nothing to possibly contend with the success / family fun factor of the Wii. Everyone can enjoy Wii, literally.
Be sure to see more user interactive gaming in the next gen consoles which really are not that far off...

Keep an eye out for the white items as well, they can have sockets added using the quest in Act 5 or with the cube formula.
