Great post there Siaynoq. While I'm staying off topic in saying this, I have to say that I liked Artanis, even though he was kind of, well, stupid in listening to Kerrigan. He just seemed to be the young, naive warrior who, as Dax from Star Wars said "[Felt] like [he] could take on the whole Empire myself".
Ultimately, this attitude lead to problems.
Ah, well, thats true. About the cow level, I mean. Thats still more of an in-reference for Blizzard though, seeing as how, like you stated, came from Diablo and referenced in Starcraft.
I guess I'll restate. I'm OKAY with SOME references, but not too much.
And Blizzard referenced Monty Python's Holy Grail in Warcraft, so lets try something new. (:
you do realize there was a dirk in d2 called the diggler. Dirk Diggler is a character from the movie boogie nights.
I think I've seen that dirk. Thing is, never seen boogie nights, and so it wasn't an obvious reference. Even if I had, still not super obvious.
Small, inobtrusive, subtle references I'm okay with. But I'd rather keep them to a minimum.
I know Blizzard is going to make references to other things. They pretty much always do. But me personally... I think that Diablo should be relatively free of such. Just doesn't fit the atmosphere as much.
-could throw in some cultural references to pop culture and other games for fun;
baldur's gate had a character called sir Garrick and he was modeled on sir robin from monty pythons holy grail, (he even sang the song brave, brave sir……), Warcraft had wirt’s other leg, and WOW has wirt's third leg
Diablo 3 could have a sorcerer called Tim or an npc called Roger the Shrubber, or a Knight who says ‘Ni’ or an item called the Doomhammer
Ick! NO!
I don't want any obvious references to anything other than Diablo.
Also, you speak of the game like its going to be more MMO styled.
That, too, I wont really like. Keep it similar to the way it is.

People still buy and still play it as well. I am a testament to that. I just got D2 a few months ago.
I think D2 was the fastest selling game of the year of release, and maybe even the decade?
They've built themselves a legacy, but can they live up to it?
The way things are going with WoW I'm going to say no. Appeals to the commercial side of things, strangifing the lore, and all the other things I dislike about the game.
Now, I'm only really saying this and only voted that way to be devil's advocate for a bit. Still, its something to think about.
Can Blizzard live up to the legacy?
I'm hoping yes, and all ready super excited for D3, even though there has been no word. It most likely will be worth it.
They don't really care about it at this point, so either they'll forget about it later on, until they come to the point where they'll say "You know what? Screw this.", or they've already chosen to screw it all together.
Hate to sound pessimistic, but I'm pretty shure they're already passed the "Screw this," stage and more onto the "Never think about Starcraft Ghost again" stage.
hello when i bought diablo 2 expansion yesterday inside the box theres a game catolog and on the first page it says in big writing''COMING SOON,starcraft ghost to playstation 2,computer entertainment system and X box video game system'' just thought i would let u no.:)
and theres some pics on it and its in 3d.
Thats obviously a little old. Playstation 2? Xbox? Seriously, if they were going to pick it up again they would tailor it to the newer consoles.
Yah, well if they made Nova as unique a character as Kerrigan used to be (before infestation), intelligent, normalish human, interesting, changed the look of her face to be a little more exotic (like I thought she used to be... she's supposed to be 'natural' too, for god sakes) and not like that of some labotomy and plastic surgery, etc. with the inclusion of a backstory not written by Decandido, and a plot as well layed out as the original StarCraft happened to be, then they'd have succeeded (at least with the female protagonist). Don't know what's gone wrong with Blizz. I guess they didn't get the 'hang' of it after all these years. Perhaps their 'fresh youngster' employees are screwing them over. Perhaps they didn't even try.
Very nice first post! Pretty much agree on all points.
Hell, the goddamn Iraqis probably don't even know what life would be like without America bombing them morning, noon and night, their soldiors kicking in their doors every other month, half of their sons rounded up and sent to a prison for no justifiable reason, their children torn to pieces by shrapnel...
I'd please ask you to go back and re-read my post (post number 77 or thereabouts [page 8 with default settings]).
Stuff like what you mentioned is a lot less common then the media tells you it is.
Now please, don't label me as a super-unbreakably-stupid-"I love America because its just better" type of person, because I'm not.
I love America because, even though we aren't perfect and niether are our leaders, we are FREE and though we make mistakes we are BETTER.
Theres a reason we have more illegal immigrants than pretty much anyone else in the world right now. People wanna be here because its (in most ways) better than the alternatives. Just the truth.
Now, I don't want this to turn into a fighting match, so I'll see if you guys respond to this and maybe say a word or to back, but I think I'm done here. Minds are made up. Arguing isn't going to change someone overnight, especially on a topic like this. Thanks for listening.
I haven't read every reply in here, but I would like to reply to whoever said that there is a lot of hate towards America in Iraq right now.
You need to stop watching the news and talk to some real people. Real soldiers who were really there. Its a COMPLETELY different story than what we see on the news and read in the paper.
I heard something about power outages in places in Iraq and of course the media was blaming it on troops or bombings or whatnot. Talked to a soldier, he said the reason for the power shortages (not outages) was because hundreds of people actually had the opportunity to get and use Air Conditioning for the first time. It wasn't our bombings, it was them actually recieving luxuray for the first time!
Theres tons of stories with even happier endings all throughout Iraq. Yeah, of course, some people still hate us, but for the most part our troops are getting welcomed with open arms.

Bad movie, bad story, bad characters...
Amazingly fun FPS sequence
But yeah... game to movie transitions are usually not very good. So I don't see this being to great, but we'll see wont we?

That is, the week after it comes out (:

But yeah, agree on pretty much everything else.

I hope this can be proved false, but meh.
I'd be more excited for D3 or Sc2 anyway.
