Dominos used to suck, but has gotten far far better in the last year or so since they changed everything up. I think I actually have to go with Dominos now.
(for the record, never even heard of Pizza GoGo)

Now, if you mean just straight DPS on the weapon, I agree with you. But if you look at the high-end wands already showing up on the item list, most of them have their base DPS, then have a property that adds damage to all wizard spells, and it seems to be a hell of an addition. Look at Ruinstroke- 156 dps, then up to +251% extra damage to wizard spells. That's over 391 dps equivalent. Many others are lower, but still over 100%.
The point is, the developers have an aesthetic they're going for for the various classes, and they're very likely to put out a game where adhering to their aesthetic is a viable strategy. It might end up being a strategy that has competition with others- maybe weapon wielding wizards will do well too- but I seriously doubt you're going to be gimped for using a wand. Every class has their individual gear types, and it's pretty clear that the developers are going to make those gear types appealing options.

While leveling up, if you happen to find a rare 2 hander that's more damage than your wand+orb combo (or whatever), awesome, use it. Why is that a problem?
When it comes to really high end gear, I think it'll work out fine. Look at legendary level 60 2-handed swords, and they seem to have a DPS around 320ish... look at unique level 60 wands, and they're about 165ish DPS, many with over +100% damage to wizard spells on top of that. Hell, look at Ruinstroke- 156 DPS with up to 251% extra damage to wizard spells. And *then* add an orb with more +wizard damage...

More on topic, I think it's pretty rare that someone outside of Blizzard has ideas and opinions that haven't already been expressed or considered by the Blizzard staff during the years of development on this game. Pure numbers of people throwing around the same arguments doesn't mean much if those arguments have already played out, and the results taken into account. Sure, it's possible that something new pops up, but pretty small chance, given the number of game enthusiasts they have working in-house.
So I think it really boils down to needing some fresh faces to point out things that may have been overlooked or taken for granted (which they've already got- look at the bug report forum and they're almost all duplicates), and then the stress test of hardware like they originally said.
Beyond that, people wanting to get in is just their own desires, and nothing benefiting the game.
