The reason for such a long development is because they closed Blizzard North in 2005. They were working on D3 originally. Assuming you take a year for hiring new blood, shifting of assets and restructuring...you're looking at Q3/Q4 2006. Combine this with the fact that Blizzard probably started parallel development on the engine that would power D3 and SC2, you get 2007. I'm seeing around 4 years of real development time so far.

    They're 2 seperate engines.

But other than that you're right, there's probably also been some moments in developement where they couldn't work on D3 due to SC2 or WoW.

I haven't played D3 Beta but judging from screenshots and videos, D3 was built on a custom SC2 based engine. Considering that both projects were on the table and getting started at the same time; Blizzard would've developed a single engine that was flexible enough for both applications. It makes sense from a developer point of view and it lowers the costs.

D3 should of been a Q4 2010 release though. They had plenty of time for engine customization, content creation and "polish". I'm thinking they fumbled about the game's direction and decided to play the "wait and see" card in regards with SC2. Since SC2 had a good reaction, they decided to take the same route with D3 (update and expand existing formula). That's my best guess.

Still not reality though, Blizzard confirmed a long time ago that they're 2 seperate engines, the only reason why they look that much alike is because they obviously share their work internally as well.

posted a message on Sleep paralysis and Lucid dreaming.
I had some weird dreams, at a point i regularily had sleep paralysis as well, but basically i was dreaming of basically just walking down the street, and then i have to cross the road, a walkway, a railroad, or similar, and everytime i do i look in each direction and noone is coming, then when i start walking an obstacles comes in the way(car, train, etc.) thinking i can make it i continue walking, but suddenly i'm hit by some kind of paralysis in the dream that slows me down to a halt, until the car(or whatever) drives me over.

In later versions of the dream i try running across, not crossing it to begin with, and so on, but it still ends with me being run over, and when i waked up i would sometimes have an issue moving there as well :(

Basically there would be no logical way to actually dive under water, so as others have mentioned it may just be a part of various air-less compartments, heck it could even be flooded areas.

posted a message on Ideas on how to make the interface a bit better
    Quote from Zero(pS)

From what I've heard recently it's possible to equip 3 skills on the skill bar, then 1 on the left mouse button, and 2 of them cycling on the right mouse button (I think Bashiok even said you could press X or the more traditional TAB).

That's all skills bound plus 3 slots for potions/scrolls, which I think it's kinda enough, since you only really use Potions as the "emergency" ones, and the others can also stay in the inventory.

It's not something I would use, but I can understand why people want more slots =]

Actually it's only 2 as there are only 5 slots on the bar, and 3 on the mouse. Personally, and maybe i'm just a bit OCD, but i would like to have attack/wand on there as well :(

Which is kinda silly as it doesn't seem any of the classes is going to need attack, except maybe the melee wizard :P

    1. I fully agree. Whatever happened to the TAB key switching out the right mouse skill? I liked that concept, a lot. Max 6 skills are brilliant, but we need more than 7 keys definitely.

It's still there, so i think the number of skills slots is sufficient.

I do agree with standalone bindings and "slots" for consumables though, potions, elixirs (Unless it turns out there's a bunch of them, in which case, they shouldn't, they could still keep the bindings as an advanced feature though) and scroll of companion.

Personally i'd like it if tooltips that show the attribute range of an item, so you can see if it's the best possible item you have or if you can get better, this would be especially great for the auction house, but certainly also worthwhile in gameplay. (Maybe even go as far as to have a bit of item comparison as well)

Looks like Rank 10 is the highest gem that drops as opposed to Rank 5 as it has previously been stated.

    Where does it say that?

Only gems rank 11 and above require crafting.

    Those are recipes for those.
It could possibly mean the jeweler only knows how to combine to rank 10 naturally and you need the recipes to go further.

    Yeah i just noticed myself, d'oh :(

P.S. To anyones knowledge be it from Diablofans.com or on the actual diablo community website. NO ONE has received beta access other than media. So don't worry if you think you didn't get an invite. We didn't either :P
Wrong. Blue posts have already mentioned sending out opt-in invites. The number is ridiculously low so they are planning contests and giveaways to calm the tide of anger. The plan is to keep a certain number of active players, new players only get invites when accounts become inactive or capacity is expanded, so don't expect a beta invite at all.

You should post a link to the supposed blue post that confirms not just the "start of the beta", but the actual sending of opt-in invites.

Still no evidence, all speculation and anger.

Yep, Blizzard launched the beta with no intention of inviting people, hurrdurr.

What exactly are you trying to show us?

From what I can see, all the UI components that you are showing us are clearly visible in the hundreds of online videos from F&F game play footage.

I'm not sure you are looking at the same thing as us then.

posted a message on Crafting Times
    Quote from Frostbite5

When the artisan system was first announced though, they implied that the artisans would be working on stuff while we were out adventuring. Maybe craft times will take longer for better items. Or maybe this was about other artisans. Or maybe they decided it was boring and just made it instant...

Maybe, does sound like a viable idea though, like some of those free to play games on your phone where you can choose to use 6 different methods of cashing out money, ranging from instant to 72 hours.

Think if they had a similar system in Diablo 3, you can craft an item immediately and it will be without any bias, but for example if you have your blacksmith work on it for 3 days, then it will be a bit biased towards higher end stats. The downside being that you might find better items while you wait.

Of course they may have to restrict it to like one item at a time, if one could just craft as many items he would, it would probably be profitable in the long run using the Auction House.

People don't seem to realize there's a "friends" portion of the Friends and Family beta. If you know someone, or pay someone, to say you're a friend, you're in. Especially when you're a giant youtube personality.

Oh we know, but out of fairness to all the other press and fansites they're not allowing any press or fansites into the Friends and Family portion of the test.

Yeah, the people responsible for determining whether or not their access should be revoked isn't working today, the mods are just removing the posts because its the only thing they can do.
