With the swarms I've seen from gameplay vids, i don't think there will really be an issue with the traps being step-triggered. Although i can see how the skill losses its usability when you gotta lead monsters over it....

Another thing im interested in is the grenade skill. It seems like it would be a tough one to master with the bounce and the distance timing.

Awesome looking class and im sure we'll be seeing masses of DH in the first days of D3 :P

In the DH gameplay video of the trap, well they just didn't play it right. As the name implies, it's a trap, so they should have placed a couple of it by a door entrance or inside by the door, so that when you start shooting at demons inside a room & they try to race out of the room to you, then the traps would be sprung, thus killing a bunch of them. I also think, this will be useful to set up on narrow bridges or corridors where you know that if they chase you, they would surely walk over it. So in my opinion, this would be a great skill, especially if you would be able to lay out about a dozen of it for the mini-bosses & the big boss. For game play, I think you could also place a couple of traps then just stand off to one side by the trap (just far enough that when it is sprung, you wont get hit) and wait for the monsters to come to you. While hitting them with bolts or arrows, the traps are actually grinding them up right in front of you.

As for the grenades, if you watch the grenade game play closely, you'll see that she also use it by her immediate surrounding where it didn't bounce far & landed in a close group, killing a couple of monsters approaching her. But it seems that if you do throw it far, that's where the 3 grenades separated in their trajectory for a more spread area of damage.

posted a message on Demon Hunter dual-wielding single-handed crossbows.
I've been so excited looking forward to the release of Diablo III since 2009 but alas, we only get to see the trailers of the road to creating an epic game. But that doesn't stop me from getting more excited about the impending truth since it has already been a decade since Diablo II came out, especially now that they already brought out the Demon Hunter, a range character that I feel will more than fill that gap, the longing for a somewhat male version of the range character I love to play. I hope they also enabled the Demon Hunter to wield two different single-handed crossbows at a time, just like the Barbarian who can dual-wield single-handed axes at the same time. In my personal opinion, I think it would simply be boring if you grab the single-handed crossbows as a pair already. It'll be much interesting if you find it one at a time, so that you can make each unique & socket each one with different gems.
Kudos for all the die-hard Rogue & Amazon users out there, we are now Demon Hunters.
Just 7 more months before Christmas but only 5 more before October. And I'm hoping that anytime soon after the Blizzcon 2011, or even during the conference itself, Blizzard will finally announce the release of Diablo III. Now I am from Orange, CA & Irvine (Blizzard's Head Office) is just a few minutes drive from my place, likewise, the Anaheim Convention Center is also near. So, I wont let this one pass... I want to be one of the few who are present if & when Jay Wilson do announce the impending release of Diablo III at Blizzcon 2011. It will be a great Christmas present for me, for I will be able to literally really get down & play for long hours during the Holiday Season. If they don't make the announcement & just release the game, same way with like what they did when they released Starcraft II, it's all the same, as long as they polish everything in 5 months time & be able to release it by the end of this year. I'm even getting myself a brand new MSI GT680R (www.FRYS.com, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152239) just so I could bring Diablo III anywhere & play it anytime I have my free time.

    Quote from BryanM

The pistol crossbows are a single item with two teeny little crossbows in it - like how your gloves drop as one item with two gloves in it. And as said before, are her class specific item.

The rest of the crossbows are bigger and supposedly equivalent to bows. It'd be like asking "why would a barbarian use swords when he can use maces."

If it's the single item case, with 2 teeny little crossbows in it, then it sucks.
From the game play video, they gave the barbarian the ability to wield 2 different axes with different magical properties. So why not make it possible for the DH to wield 2 different pistol crossbows as well so you can have 2 different properties. Maybe one has cold damage to freeze monsters and the other one has fire, poison or lightning damage, which is a lot cooler than the single item case. Plus you can socket both for additional bonuses as well.

I do think boss runs is a horrible mechanic. I like the idea that the more content you clear before you kill the boss, the better tue loot drop is. However, they don't need set loot tables for this. Just an increase in chance of rare, set, or legendary items will work within the pure randomness.

I also hope that this endgame they have planned gets rid of most temptation to boss run in the first place.

I totally agree with you on this one. Clearing all the minions before the boss to increase the chances for dropping rare, set or legendary items is really the way to do it on all Acts of the game on all level of difficulties. :dh:

    Quote from Juystafan

I'm not completely sure i understand the poll. Normal Unique items? Is this different from set items?

Wouldn't that kill what normal set items are trying to achieve?

    Clarify for me.

    Cheers,

Let me ask you first, what are normal set items trying to achieve?
Have you ever played Diablo II before? If not, then play it and try to complete a Set. If yes, then have you ever completed a set of Set Items and have had the chance of using it? Set Items are composed of Magical Items which are unique in their own way.
To give you an idea, the Sigon's Complete Steel, set I was able to complete (with patch 1.09) wasn't ideal anymore for playing when I was playing Act 3 & 4 of the Nightmare mode. How much more do you think you would last playing Hell mode?
In Diablo III, they said that white identifies Normal Items, blue for Magical Items, Yellow for Rare Items, Orange for Legendary Items, Green for Set Items and purple for the Runes.
So basically, wouldn't it be ideal that after you complete a set (which is difficult to accomplish and quite time consuming), it transforms into one Legendary Item if and only if your character wearing the whole Set Items with the additional bonuses which can help you die less in the more difficult levels of the game (because, and I will repeat it again, it is DIFFICULT to gather all items and complete such sets).
Wouldn't you agree then that it would really be great to look forward to collecting and completing such Set Items if there is such a reward as additional bonuses to help you out in all the Acts of the Normal, Nightmare and Hell modes of the game?

posted a message on Town Portal... SET ITEMS (Green Items)
    Quote from Thander

I like some of the set bonuses you listed, but I don't think they should be static. Each set should have its own handcrafted set bonuses like in Diablo 2. They shouldn't just be the same thing for all sets. That's boring.

Thank you. The choices I have listed should be additional bonuses that would only appear after your character is adorned with the completed Set Items, with the particular Set Items intended for general use. Thus it can be used by all the character class, then Blizzard should have completely different sets of Set Items that can be used only by each particular character (one with a wand, one with crossbows, one with a staff for the Monk and one for the Wizard, then one with a sword and a shield).
So basically, you get all the bonuses of each of the items from the set + the additional bonus/es that appears after wearing the complete set (which would be ideal for the completed Set Items to turn from colored green to orange becoming a Legendary Item as a whole set with the additional handcrafted bonus/es). It would be more fun looking for such Set Items since players would be looking forward to the additional bonus/es they would get if and when they are able to complete the set. That is why I can presume that if a player can complete a set which would be useful enough that he can wear it when playing the Nightmare and Hell levels in Normal mode, then it would be something to covet for and cause envy with your friends and other players. Also, when you find items for other sets for use by another character class, you can trade it for the one that you need to complete your set.
Like I said, in Diablo 2, it takes time to be able to find items of sets, and be able to complete one. Random dropping is only beneficial if you would be able to play the game for 1 whole day straight. When I played Diablo 2, I used the Amazon, and never got to complete the Vidala's Rig set for the Amazon, but I was able to complete the set Sigon's Complete Steel, which looks weird on my Amazon and doesn't allow me to use the shield. So I just traded it for an amulet with a +2 To Amazon Skill Levels with a friend of mine. It takes time and luck to be able to gather all items that completes a Set. That is why it would be gratifying if the Set Items are worth using for playing in Act 2, Act 3 & Act 4, and other sets of Set Items that are ideal to use in the Nightmare mode, and Act 1 through Act 2 of Hell mode as well even without the Expansion Set for Diablo III.

Moved and renamed (not sure what Jay wilson had to do with this topic).

Was hoping they could address the issue and make some changes to make the Set Items more desirable for players to covet and complete.

posted a message on Town Portal... SET ITEMS (Green Items)
A year after my first post, Blizzard was able to address some points of the game that I find wanting from the previous Diablo I & II. Although, I was sort of disappointed to see a FEMALE MONK included with the character classes. Ironic that NUNS cannot be classified with the MONKS for they are not in any way the same.
Sadly, THERE IS NO FEMALE MONK depicted in any history, so it is kind of stupid to make one. Similar to AMAZONS who are all women, Monks are all men. I just don't know why the range characters they created were always depicted by the female gender only? For Diablo II, it's understandable because Amazons are all women.
Although there wasn't a male version of the Rogue class in Diablo I, I am quite happy now that the designers at Blizzard finally came to their senses and created a male version of the Demon Hunter.
I read The Diablo Chronicles: Sanctuary, posted by Ophion Icon on 04-11-11 22:25 this morning where they discussed the use of Town Portals. I have no problem with Diablo II having no Town Portal spell like Diablo I, because it had Shrines and Scrolls of Town Portal which could be stacked up to twenty times in a single Tome. It was a great means of retrieving the items you dropped if you died facing a strong enemy or like they said, a route for escaping such death.
They said that Blizzard is planning to limit the use for Town Portals and our means of escape... lols. So, I'm looking forward to what they stored for us with regards to this matter.
As we all know, magical and unique items are identified by the color of their name.
    WHITE is for Normal Items
    BLUE is for Magical Items
    Yellow is for Rare Items
Orange is for Legendary Items (the new term they use in Diablo III)
Green is for SET ITEMS, and
    Purple(a new color) for Runes
I don't know about you guys, but the times I played Diablo II, I tried to complete all the different sets I got from the random items dropped, and I was only able to complete 2 sets: Sigon's Steel for the Barbarian and another set for the Necromancer class which was useless because of it's low level defense. The only thing I used was the wand which has a +1 To Necromancer Skill Levels, even though the damage is too low.
But seriously, I don't know how they conceived making the SET ITEMS in the first place if you wont be able to collect the whole set for low level players in the Normal Mode. I was already in the Hell level of the Nightmare mode when I got the last piece to complete the Sigon's Complete Steel. I never did use it, because I got way better Armor from Gambling with so much higher defense. It just shows that completing the whole SET ITEMS was not worth the trouble and a complete waste of time. There is nothing to applaud for if you do complete the set because there are a lot far more better armor and weapons you may get in the game which you may use in the Nightmare & Hell modes.
If the defense is too low, then it's useless to use even when you complete the set (if you ever complete) when your level is high already and your playing the Nightmare and Hell Mode already. So for this poll I created, this is only for SET ITEMS, ideal for use in the Normal Mode game.
I think, this is one factor of the game that Blizzard should try to improve. They should have SET ITEMS for general use by all classes and 2 different sets for each character class. Then maybe 2 other sets of SET ITEMS for each character class that is ideal for use when playing the Nightmare and Hell modes of Diablo III (increase in stats for better damage and defense). If Blizzard does this, then collecting the full set of SET ITEMS, would truly be satisfying by itself.
Set Items will turn out to be something to covet for and look forward to. It will be something that you can brag about with your friends and bring envy or something to trade for.
