Haha, 1 post a minute in this thread. That calls for a haiku.

    Will I get beta?
    Chances are melting like snow.
    April still so far.

I'm spreading constructive haiku's around the forum, hoping to get a beta key. It's fun, and culturally relevant.

    Diablo burns like summer.
    Better give beta.

I've always been wondering why people in beta tries to get a high MF. You are going to get better items from AH with the gold you are going to pick up.

Well, in D2 I had the most fun searching for better items by doing boss runs. So that's what I'm going to do in D3. I'm not just going to "buy" the items that I need, where's the fun in that? And there's also a chance that people will put the best items only on the RMAH.

    I agree.
Moreover, I also find it weird people underestimate the value of low level MF. I think this is an understandable result of the situation in D2: we had been playing for so long that we already had enough items to equip or lower lvl characters. There was no need to equip them with MF. However, if you start from scratch, I think every bit of MF you can integrate in your equipment without losing too much efficiency, will help significantly.

An example: I'm a sturdy barbarian, so in my run through normal I opt for MF instead of resist/defense. I kill just as fast and I won't die anyways. Say I accumulate up to 50% MF. Then, statistically, I will start nightmare with 50% more awesome items. Three uniques instead of two. Six rares instead of 4. I'll have seen 50% more potentially useful rings to chose from. Just to say... I've always appreciated some early MF :)

posted a message on Which memory do you remember the best from Diablo franchise?
I still remember the very first time I played D2 multiplayer. I hadn't played a lot yet and I was still a kid so I didn't know much. Some dude came up to me and showed me a (white) horned helm and I was all like omg that's awesome! (so far I had only seen caps and stuff)

I also remember the first time playing LoD. I got it on release but didn't know any spoilers or new features. Nothing beats the feeling of finding your first charms and class specifics.

    I just pre-ordered the collectors edition :)

For those who feel very unpatient and haven't pre-ordered the game yet, I really recommend it. It's strangely soothing and reassuring. Like it's the first little step to realizing the game is real and will be released.

(The next little step for me will be getting a beta key because this post is extremely constructive on a fundamental psychological level).

No but seriously, pre-ordering feels good and it takes the edge off waiting. Also, my character will have wings :)

This is totally true. I mean take an awesome name like "The Shadow Council", which translates to "Skuggrådet". Obviously that doesn't really say anything to anyone who isn't a native Swedish speaker, but at least you guys will understand what I mean.

The only time Swedish was ever cool was in the Swedish dub of Dungeon Keeper. Now that was awesome.
I find the results of translating ingame terms to my own language usually either hillarious or embarassing. There's hardly any epic tradition, so often it's hard to translate fantasy terms without sounding stupid. I find it weird that English speakers never seem to care about the weird stuff game writers do with their language though. I guess they've gotten used to it.

There is an uncovered trove of epic tradition in the Scandinavian tongues! At least from an English perspective.

Our fantasy tropes usually rely on heading back towards ancient times. Older, more arcane terms, become more 'fantastic'. So you head back towards old English and I'm no expert but I think from there things move east and north. Right into the troll lands.

In effect, the language of our English Fantasy is Swedish. So you guys are descended from Fantasy itself.

    How's that for logic?
True, I also find Swedish to be quite epic. But when it comes to medieval oriented fantasy, English has the vocabulary no other language has. Why? Because of French! The Norman conquest more precisely. The French invaders added a whole new layer of vocabulary to English, and over time these words come to be associated with the medieval epic.

An example: compare the words "flames" and "fire". Flames sounds a lot more epic, while a fire is an everyday object (cooking fire, forest fire...). Flames is from Norman French, fire is germanic. We, in other languages, often don't have these words which are reserved for more epic meanings. So if we have to translate something like "You shall burn in the flames of Hell!", it suddenly sounds a lot more mundane, and sometimes just ridiculous. The word "turmoil" mentioned earlier is another perfect example.

I think what complicates things is that stores will be watching each other. For major releases, they'll all try to gather as many pre-orders as possible. So if one store starts allowing pre-orders, they basically have no choice but to follow suit. Add in local regulations, and the date guessing game begins :/

Just saw D3 for preorder in a major entertainment store here in Belgium. Release date: februari 28. Normally I'd dismiss this right away, but usually these guys are pretty reliable in those things. It may still be a trick to get the most preorders first, but.. sign of announcement?

I'd find it weird that the release date would only be announced a couple of weeks in advance though.

Haha I double checked and they already changed it to april. This kind of behavior shows me that they don't have a clue yet, so I wouldn't expect a release very soon :/

I figure those random item names can be silly sometimes for native speakers of English. For us non-native speakers, everything in English sounds awesome. Hawk Turmoil. Hawk is a bird name often used for cool video game characters/ concepts and turmoil is a word you hardly ever hear, only in epic settings when they mean "trouble" or something. So they can get away with a lot of things. But I guess if English is your first language you often think like "hmm wtf??"

It really looks a lot like torchlight, not only the graphics but also the monsters and the level design. How is it even possible that screenshots on low settings get released? They must be leaked or stolen then. Why would blizzard send screenshots with shadows turned off to anyone at all?

Ah well, who cares... release the game already, I'm getting tired of skyrim ^^

"Each different Spirit Generator ability you use increases your damage by 10% for 3 seconds."

I like everything I'm hearing, but I'm a bit worried about these new passives that encourage you to use different skills. Normally you should want to use different skills because you want to, or because you need them in different situations. It's a bit cheap that they try to encourage you just by giving a damage bonus for it. Or am I getting this wrong?
