I'm just going to come right out and say what everyone is thinking.

You fed into the idea of being a hipster by getting bent out of shape when you were called a hipster.
Because everyone knows that hipsters HATE being called hipster.

I wasn't trying to defend myself; I was just trying to call out Nekro on his crap.

I can see why someone would call me a hipster. I'm not ashamed, necessarily, because I know what I like and that's really no one's business. I like to think of myself as a well rounded person and if I have tastes that people consider out of the ordinary, then I take that at face value.

Hipster isn't a hurtful word. Of course, there are hipsters that try and hipsters that simply "are."

Edit: I'd like to further expand on this. Given that we're all individuals with ideas unique to us, how does the interpretation of one's behavior tastes through the eyes of one hold true for the ideas of others? Taking this into account, our perceptions of other people only serve our own ego.

At this point, our perceptions of other people are seemingly arbitrary because different people will have a different opinion of the same person. Person A can say X, Person B can say Y, and Person C can say Z.

So when does one's opinion ever really matter?

Just because I read manga doesn't mean I own any and certainly don't walk around with them. I'm not into making public statements about what I like and dislike.

Well, that wasn't the point I was trying to make, but I guess so, maybe.

My point was that it's hard to know if something is mainstream or not if you don't see anybody doing it. Since I don't have cameras hooked up in everyone's houses, I can't know if they're reading mangas; the only way I would know if someone was reading a manga is if I saw them holding one in public (and that might not even be the case) or if they talk publicly about it. Since I don't encounter that on a frequent enough basis, I am on absolutely no grounds to determine whether mangas are mainstream or not.

Of course, basing the popularity of something in accordance to your exposure to it is definitely not the way you do that anyway, so why are we even talking about this?

    And I never said I didn't like them; I haven't read one.

You see, I can't even make a simple statement without some dude coming and being, "oh, wow, aren't you fucking cool?"

Fuck, why do I even come on here anymore?

Fyodr Dostoevsky and James Thomson? Oh man....that was such a class hipster move.

Maybe I should just stop trying to make jokes. You're obviously not hip enough to get them.

And I really don't understand how not reading mangas would make someone a hipster. I didn't even say it to make myself seem cool. I mean, I am cool, but I don't consider myself cool for not doing anything. Like, what kind of person would I be then?

That's because it would be to big and heavy to carry around. duuuuuuuuuuuh

Actually, I have a friend who reads mangas and he reads them all on his Kindle. It's pretty cool.

You're such a hipster. I wish i was as cool as you.

So I'm going to retort and you're going to say you were only trolling, I take it?

I didn't know that mangas were so ingrained into mainstream society. I mean, I never saw thousands of people walking around with their One Piece mangas and their Fullmetal Alchemist mangas. The only literature my friends and I read is European literature a la Fyodor Dostoevsky and James Thomson.

I mean, you've probably never heard of them since, you know, you read your little mangas and sip your Ramune like it's so fun to be ingrained in mainstream culture.

I'm probably going to leave, pop in occasionally, and come back fully when there's talk of expansions and shit.

But, yeah, gonna be too busy playing D3 and Skyrim to care.

And fuck Gooby. What a stupid meme...

Your level is to damn high!! You joined in 09 when everyone on the forums were friends and giving out rep points like pedos give candy to little, tiny, minute people (Joking). Now every Tom, Penis and Harry is on here spamming the shit out of threads and your posts gets buried (Joking). But yeah it will take some time at this rate for me to reach your level of awesomeness! :D

Actually, there was a system back then where you could give either positive or negative rep.

People got butthurt about it and now we have this system.

Edit: But, yeah, I'm way better than you in every way possible, my taste in music is far superior, my taste in women is far superior, and you're just not a good person in general.

EDIT: When I say punish I mean doggy punishment, not harsh stuff. I'm no spastic.

Is there a certain line you can't cross when it comes to punishment?

I mean, let's say you have a puppy and it poops in the house. In training it to not do that, what would you do or not do to teach them that it can't do that in the house?

The way that my friend and his dad handles it is that, if the load is "fresh," they take the puppy to the mess, put their nose in it, give them a reasonable strike, and put them outside for a good amount of time.

Would you consider that crossing the line or is that well within reasonable means of punishment?

And I'll let you know that, on any given day in Washington State, USA that isn't late spring or summer, it's probably not warm; in fact, it's probably pretty chilly.

I appreciate docile things, I guess, is what I'm trying to say. Almost every cat I've met (and I've met many, many cats due to my mom working at a cat-exclusive veterinary office for twenty years) has been completely chill and laid back, no problems at all.

I've met dogs who just aren't laid back. When I see a laid back dog, I think that's a beautiful thing. I hate it when dogs are "excited;" I just become disengaged and annoyed. I don't think it's "cute" when a dog jumps on me as if I was Dog-Christ reincarnated.

Fuck, maybe I was just born to like cats.

This poll and thread make no sense.

    I don't even... how do you... ?

I would like to remind everyone that I wholeheartedly believe that anyone can own a cat; my friends have this odd idea that any guy that owns a cat is either homosexual or weird. I put up the poll so when I show this to them, I can say, "well, I guess there are about 107 people that think like I do."

And I don't like dogs. I'm sorry, I just don't. When I look at a dog, I see a sad, needy human. When I look at a cat, I see a best friend who is independent to the extent that you grant it. A dog doesn't know how to let go (some dog owners really like that and I can understand), but a cat is empathetic without necessarily showing it.

I connect with cats on a psychological level; we don't need someone there all the time, but we appreciate your company when you are there. Plus you're warm and we like that.

    Edit:

Well, not everyone. Cats don't take any shit.
