Mercs were fun. They just seemed a little pointless sometimes. They did their job.
I enjoy the idea of finding them along your journey and them just kind of dieing off when it gets a little too thick for em. It's new, less hassle, interesting for the story.
I love it when orbs just appear from peoples body's, after I slay them of course. You know, long lines at the bank, crying babies, those who aren't the same color as me. It makes way more sense to just simply run into them and absorb their floating blood essence. Energy drinks are bad for you. Yucky.
But in my opinion, Blizzard has never made too much sense to ME, in how and why they do things.
If you had a subscription game that made a BILLION bucks a year in profit, would you be in a hurry to release a competing game yourself that didn't have a subscription component? Dollars and sense.
D3 may be the main attraction, but thatmay only mean that the are show casing new game play or hopefully a fifth class. Which they need to announce before they announce a release date.
It would make more sense for Diablo III to see mass release shortly after a Blizzcon that places emphasis on it...
I agree, it WOULD make sense. But in my opinion, Blizzard has never made too much sense to ME, in how and why they do things. I'm sure it makes plenty of sense on the business side. But I'm not a part of the company, drr. I see them releasing the 5th class and that really being the highlight of the event. Of course other things like maybe a another system like the crafting, and more game play like you fellas said. But I still don't see them being obligated in giving a release date.
Ffffffuck, I remember waiting in 2009, REALLY thinking it was going to be released in 2010. But nothing. Heres the end of 2010 coming up and hey, all we can do is hope and stay optimistic! I can see maybe... Spring 2011. Hopefully ~.~;
If things are meant to be spread out to cover different areas of combat, then chances go the the 5th class being a heavy armor class. The way im looking at it is we have 1 out of 4 classes is a real hybrid class, and 3 out of 4 being light or maybe medium armor classes. Maybe we are looking at a hybrid heavy armor class. *replacing the paladin because we aren't going to see any other class from old games* .. so maybe some sort of dark magic heavy armor class?? What do you guys think of this?

I REALLY like this idea actually. But I see the Barbarian being a heavy armor type. He may not be all of the time but hes capable of wearing such armor. So if they WERE to limit the Barb on certain types of armor, I could see this as being more plausible.
Also, I kind of see the Witch Doctor as the "dark magic" class. I know, you may disagree on the magic not being as "dark" as it COULD be and I would have to agree. But we don't know the entire tree's they have lined up for us. We'll have to seeee!
I still believe the fifth class has stealth & range speciality skills.
The class should have close combat skills as well, high dps or massive criticals, etc...
Ideally, it should be a Rogue/Ranger/Pathfinder/Hunter archetype that should play differently from the other classes.
Something that requires more finesse than the Barbarian or Monk.
for those who are positive the fifth class is a ranged weapon specialist, how might blizzard avoid falling into pitfalls like the guided and multi arrow that they had to nerf eventually anyways? any creative ideas for ranged weapon skills that could really instill some new life into an arguably archaic rpg staple
Give the specialist aura based skills that magnify the range damage, slow enemies down, etc... instead of arrow augmentation. Limit the aura radius and have abilities given to enemies that negate specific auras to spice up the challenge. I'm sure Blizzard will come up with something great.
My 2 cents
Yes, blizzard usually knows what they're doing. Hence the unarguably hellish wait. :X I look forward to the unveiling. But my first love has always been the Barbarian. It's been woven into my DNA.

Then again, this isn't the devil. But a vision of him through an interactive game. But still. I don't see why this is even a debate. Bleh.
