Was planning on playing hardcore anyway so this is perfect to me. Just wondering how pvp will work with hardcore is all that's concerning me at the moment. I'll likely have to make a softcore character strictly for pvp which is a bit saddening.
The biggest issue is Jay Wilson's binary attitude. D3 PVP doesn't have to be super balanced, or even balanced at all. It would be nice for them to add some minor systems for it though like a ranked ladder and some way to switch between TDM and TLastStand. TDM is fun and all, but TLS is the best way to go about competitive pvp. Just because a game is competitive doesn't mean it's an e-sport. Does the current level ladder in diablo 2 where you see who hits 99 first make diablo 2 an e-sport? No, it makes it competitive.
Having the game be b-net only will NOT stop hacks/bots/dupes/etc. It only took hackers 2 weeks to crack EA's online-only thing with Assassin's Creed 2 after it was released. All Blizzard is doing with this decision is alienating a portion of their fanbase(no matter how big or small that portion may be). This issue doesn't even affect me personally and I can see why some people would be PISSED.
Here's hoping I get into the beta so that I can see if the gameplay is at least solid, despite all of Blizzard's bad decisions lately with how to handle certain things.
I'll miss having more than 4 people in a game(really? My 5 friends and I have to split into groups of 3? /sigh). I'll miss hirelings; I really wish they would implement the Follower system into multiplayer and past normal, such a cool concept that is going to waste in my opinion. I liked assigning my own stat points, but that's not something I'll really miss. I'll miss the amazon and assassin classes, but the Demon Hunter and the Monk seem to be shaping up to be great remakes of the two.
Plan to spend most of my time in the arenas after gearing up.
I love the health globe ideas for Arena, its an ode to oldschool fps' with timed spawns on ammo/health rather than the current crap where you regenerate your health after a period of time of not being shot. Makes me happy that they are implementing it this way.
Also happy that there will be a large variety of builds(well......at least hopefully).
It's not vital, but even revealing this crap is infuriating.
"Hey guy's we got some awesome news for you about one of our systems. It's super cool followers that give you storyline and some more things to customize to keep you busy. There's one limitation though: It's only for normal difficulty and only for single-player."
Paraphrasing of course, but we finally get a shred of new information since Blizzcon about one of the upcoming systems, and then it's a slap in the face to find that you won't even be able to use it unless you play single-player and ONLY on normal difficulty. I don't understand this whole "screen real-estate" thing either. Blizzard really is catering to the lowest common denominator when it comes to people with pcs. Don't really understand why they feel the need to neuter such a potentially awesome system before the game even comes out.
I have to wonder why they even bother with the follower system if it's intended for normal only and you cannot use them in multiplayer. I for one intend to never play the game by myself. To think I was all excited when this was revealed yesterday only to have my excitement crushed. Poor decision on Blizzard's part imo, hope they change it before release.
Templar for my demon hunter, scoundrel for my monk. Probably go enchantress for my wizard when I get to her, depends on how the follower skills match up.
For me, I don't see how the beta could last more 3 months. This isn't an MMO where you can let people play the entire leveling experience(seeing as that's going to be where you spend the majority of your time in Diablo 3) and just save the endgame content for release. I can see them MAYBE giving us most of act one and just having us find bugs with the game itself(i.e. problems with certain computer specs etc.). It'd be silly of them to give us most of the game to beta test.
