It is indeed the same Barbarian according to Blizzard. Yet I continue to be confused as to where the tattoos went...

posted a message on Things we want to see/have in Diablo 3
I posted this as an independent thread, but I guess it probably belongs better here. I hope you won't blame me for not reading through 144 pages, so any rehashed info is unintentional...

Basically, I think I have a pretty good idea of what the final class lineup will look like. This is assuming 5 classes and if I'm retreading old ground, you'll have to forgive me. I haven't had a chance to catch up on all of the current threads.

Essentially, I think Blizzard is going for a class lineup that will satisfy most archetypes that people typically enjoy in fantasy RPGs with a couple twists (judging by the Witch Doctor.) That's tough to do with only five classes, but I think it makes it pretty simple to pin down what we can expect.

First, just on intuition, I think the split is going to look like 3 Returning Classes + 2 New Classes.

    What we have:
-A dual-wielding, savage melee monster with lots of health and less armor.
-A very unconventional, outside-the-box caster with strong tones of Necromancy. Despite what the panel said, I think this pretty much rules out Necromancer for the initial release.

In order to cover the broad base of fantasy archetypes, I'm pretty sure this is close to what we'll see in the other three classes:

-A more heavily armored, martial melee class with a shield and some spell-like abilities. I'd love to see the Paladin come back, personally, and that's what I'd put my money on to fill this slot. However, they may pull a fast one and do something new, along the lines of a Mage Knight. Straight-up warrior seems unlikely. With only five classes, I don't think there's room for a Warrior AND a Barbarian, as they're both essentiall nonmagical guys that hit things.

-A more conventional caster. Sorcerer/ess is the most obvious and, in my opinion, most likely choice. The Witch Doctor looks brilliant, but I'd be surprised if they didn't give us a less "quirky" spell-slinger. The druid could also make a return here, but I think that particular class is more likely to return in an expansion down the road.

-A stealthy character, likely with nonmagical ranged attacks. This, personally, is where I would bet we'll see something totally new. Not quite the classic assassin and not quite the classic ranger, probably with some elements of the Amazon-- almost assuredly with the sort of off-the-wall twist we're getting from the Witch Doctor. I'm not entirely sure what this one will look like, but it would seem odd not to have a class that focuses on bow use.
Alternately, we could see a sort of Aragorn-ish "Warrior/Hunter/Ranger" in the other melee slot, in which case I'd say class #5 would be some sort of twist on the stealth class along the lines of:
Witch Doctor is to Necromancer AS (Class 5) is to Assassin.
A lot of the same flavor and feel, but going in a more creative direction.

posted a message on About the Barbarian:
Yeah, after all that's happened I kind of picture him with a new mentality. Before he was like a hot-blooded young guy that just lived for the thrill of the fight. Now he's got a bit more of a grizzled, standoffish thing going on where you can just glean by looking at him: "Trust me, I've seen a lot worse than you. And if you don't stop waving that thing in my face, I am very capable of turning your head into a wall ornament."

posted a message on About the Barbarian:
I really like the new barbarian. He's actually more of a badass now, it seems like. The guy's probably pushing 50 and he's still ripped as hell and swinging axes with the force of a freight train. If anybody doubts the awesomeness of that, I have lost hope in their judgment.

How is that? A lot has changed in 20 years. I see no reason that Priestesses/Female Paladins would be out of place in the Diablo universe.

By the way, I'm aware there's a "classes we want" thread bu.... ugh. 134 pages? Anyway, this is more of a "Classes I think will make it in," so I hope it can stand on its own. Don't want to seem like a troll.

posted a message on Another Long-Time Lurker, My Theory on Final Class Lineup
Hey everyone! I'm T.J. I'm a huge Diablo fan and I've been watching these forums quite a bit, especially over the last couple of days. With the announcement of my new Most Anticipated Release of the Next Couple Years, I couldn't help throw my hat into the ring.

Basically, I think I have a pretty good idea of what the final class lineup will look like. This is assuming 5 classes and if I'm retreading old ground, you'll have to forgive me. I haven't had a chance to catch up on all of the current threads.

So there you have it. Agree? Disagree? Think I'm missing something? Let me know. I'm glad to finally be active in this community!
