I've been a reader on the forums for some time here on Diablo Fans, but never got around to posting anything.. until now. I've been tinkering with a wizard build for a while. Basically this build is going to try to spam.. a lot. Damage is some what limited, but I feel like I should get a decent amount of control with frequent frost novas and waves of force. Teleport helps in sticky situations, Energy Armor runed is basically insurance against one hit deaths (possible in Inferno?). Electrocute, Arcane Orb, and Wave of Force are the damage dealers and hopefully cause enough critical hits to make critical mass worth while. Evocation and Astral Presence support the build. Pretty simple build. Just looking for input, feel free to be critical, I promise I won't cry.
It's not a build you can put together until late Nightmare/Early Hell difficulty anyway, so you have time to see how it develop, but I expect you'll want at least one attack that maximizes burst damage at the expense of mana.
You are thinking trying to take mana away as a concern, but that actually creates an inefficiency. Mana unspent is mana that could have been used to deal more damage faster. If you're okay with that, no worries. The goal is to have fun, and some people find resource limitation more annoying than low damage output. I get that.
If you're trying to maximize damage potential, you want to develop a situation where mana doesn't feel like a constraint, but you end up spending down your mana consistently. If that's the case, I'd suggest maybe take out Wave of Force and slot something like Disintegrate (Volatility) or Meteor (Molten Impact) to add some real oomph for when you really do want it (something high damage with no cooldown), and let your two main skills be cheaper and spammable to preserve mana for those "oh shit" moments.

I grew up gaming without internet forums. The entire phenomenon of being upset with a game developer makes no sense to me. No sense. I cannot imagine spending my time and energy being upset about something I choose to do for recreation.
Riesza is right, and it is bad survivability at that.... useless use of evocation. Tap the source for a 20 ap orb when disintegrate with volatility could give you explosions and more average damage for the same cost. Guys he needs an intervention.... post your builds. I did this:
Took his flash and trash and turned it into "me damage-you-long-time" gold. Every hit, helps, hopefully even with diamond skin on.. (we'll see), the shield is fed by prodigy, arcanot, and astral presence, and damage done to him.... he will never be without ap..Slow time and Enduring skin, (or crystal shell) combined with blur mean he is covered on defense. Every part of this build helps the whole in some way, ST and Enduring Skin (or CS) are both volatility time extenders.

Overall it looks like I need more damage, less defense and less devotion to cool down reduction.
