I don't know. I guess if they do an MMO out of diablo 3 i would be quite upset. THey could if they wanted to but I don't see the logic. If people want an MMO instead of a hack-n-slash, they could just buy WOW. However, in the interview with blizz at E3, they said that they didn't want to be just known for MMOs. They said that this is the reason why they made Starcraft 2 as a rts instead of making a Universe of Starcraft. I'm hoping for d3 but I can't judge just yet.
Oh at the blizzcon website off to the left (this slightly pissed me off for a moment) they only have WOW and SC2 listed they say nothing about diablo. Also in the banner, they only have one picture related to diablo and its not even a big one. It's like hiding behind everything.
Letting us know that while it's not in the spotlight, Diablo is still there and they won't forget us! Gogo Blizzcon announcement!
True and it would make sense not to put Diablo in the spotlight as it would give away the announcement. But still, they could have added world of Diablo to the side or something. (It doesn't bother me anymore though)

I think it would make most sense for the next project to be Diablo 3.
Blizzard already has a MMORPG with a huge fan base. There is no need to make another MMO, since WoW is performing perfectly fine. In addition, a new MMO would just cut into WoW's sales, and provide a marginal boost in profit.
SC2 will undoubtedly provide a huge hit for the RTS platform. So, it doesn't make sense to announce another expansion for WC3 and steal some of that thunder.
Blizzard would definitely find the most number of fans by making another hack/slash game with Diablo 3. Besides the hardcore Blizzard fanbase, RTS gamers will stick with RTS (in this case, SC2) and MMORPG gamers will stick with WoW. As a result, Diablo 3 taps into the largest gamer base.
Diversification in the games also allows Blizzard to continue to perform well and build on its great reputation. As the way I see it, RTS has a greater emphasis on strategy and thinking, while MMORPG's strength is in its social aspect and teamwork. Diablo allows for a third type of game, which is one of seemingly mindless, constant, and rapid killing.
However, I think its entirely possible that they release another expansion to WoW. Expansions probably are a marginal fraction of the cost to build an entire game. And since its an expansion to WoW, that only will further attract more gamers and keep those who are already playing.
However...I am hoping its going to be Diablo 3, haha
Also to point out, even though it was already said, they already have one team working on WoW. Team 3 is working on something completely different. Therefore, we can rule out anything WoW related to be announced.

One more thing. If you check out blizzcon's website, the picture that htey use in the banner of diablo. I don't know about you but that icon has never been used before i don't think. At least I have never seen it. Could it be the icon/trademark that blizzard had been working on? I don't know but it could be a sign of D3.
Gotta wait and see.

Analyzing the blizzcon website for easter eggs in the hope to see a shard of D3 is a little overboard for me but I still hope it's D3. All we can do is wait.
Have yall ever wondered if like a blizzard employee has made a fourm at a site and was like "I was a huge fan of the diablo series, what would you guys like to see in the next installment?" Or the might of gave us some information by simply just posting in a thread as someone who has an opinion? Anyways I think
2008: WoW expansion
2009: Starcraft 2
2010: a decade from diablo II there will be diablo III
Hey there is a D3 forum on the Blizzcon website asking for suggestions for the next instalment to the series and about the rumoured announcement.
If anyone want to take a look or post a comment there heres the website. http://www.battle.net/forums/board.aspx?ForumName=blizzcon
Maybe blizzard will look at these suggestions or forum posts (no matter how futile that may seem).

Flagship is going some good things with Hellgate, definatly check it out.
I learned that the monthly paying memeber gets more modes, and extras, possibly more acts/levels.. But you can still play on their multiplayer servers alike other "paying" players.
Leave it to Flagship not to fuck you completely. (WOW)
I think this game is going to be alot better than most people expect, Their website is a turn off, and not very attractive lol. The actuall gameplay looks sweet though.
Well See, hopefully Ill get in the beta testing coming soon, to Kill time before Diablo III Is announced at Blizzcon.
To be entirely honest, I prefer to stick to fact and reason with my assessments of the coming announcement at Blizzcon.
I'll instead abandon reason in this particular instance and instead give into my baser instincts.
That being said, has anyone seen the recent banner displayed on the Battle.net website (at the time of posting if you click on the number 2 slot of the banner slideshow you'll see what I'm talking about)?
Clearly - in accordance with their slogan of "a celebration of the Warcraft, Starcraft and, Diablo franchises and communities" they have displayed, in more prominent detail than before - the Lord of Terror himself - our pal and yours, Diablo.
Of course, this could be to lead us to believe that there is a coming announcement for Diablo - but I ask you this (and I honestly have no answer to this, so I'll throw this to the mercy of the faithful denizens of Diablo3.com to reply);
Has there been in Blizzcon's humble past a reference so bold to the *entire* trinity of titles such as the one being displayed this year?
Moreover, has there been even an allusion quite like this as to the reality of a new Diablo game in the past, mmm, 4 years? Especially after the news broke of the majority of Blizzard North heading to greener pastures?
For the record, I hope more than anything that we see a new Diablo title, regardless of its true gameplay nature (MMO or otherwise), coming to fruition within the next year or two.

Until we've waited another five years.

I doubt it will be MMO and If it is, they risk it being a failure. Which is pointless.
If the shoe fits wear it.
I think 17 million copies sold does the trick for a game.
I'm hungry for tacos now! aaaarrrgh! =P
I hope its Diablo 3! At least an announcement please! =P
