The prime evils will never be destroyed for they are evil spirits. Think of the movie, "The Exorcist of Emily Rose". Remember when she was in the barn and they were trying to finish the exorcisim, picture that being Diablo. I do have to say that as long there is hate in the world, there will be Mephisto. As long as there destruction in the world, there will be Baal. And finally if there is people terrorizing others, there will be Diablo.

couldn't there be sort of a chain reaction like a follower of diablo ressurecting him but partially failing to do so and diablo comes back as about half of what he used to be and has to search for somthing like the blood of his slayer and have to baisically regenerate himself to fight and kill you for the blood that would save his life.
Diablo's follower, Maurice was killed by baal. Diablo also regenerates his power from "terrorizing" others around him, feeding off their fear. He then gains enough power to inhibit their hosts body or possess them.

I also share your belief, but for different reasons.
1. The game's name is Diablo. He's been the focus for two games. It would feel strange without him in it.
2. How can you compare Lesser Evils to Greater Evils. Wouldn't it be logical to assume that they would be far easier to defeat, and that Heaven would be at a giant advantage if the Three weren't present?
You have a point. But maybe Azmodan and Belial were considered to be the lesser evils of hell at the time when Diablo, Baal and Memphisto roamed in Hell. That was a long time ago and maybe the lesser evils have gotten more powerful since the greater evils were imprisioned in there soul stones for a long time.
Like I said though, the only way of knowing is when D3 comes out.

What Elfen Lied says is absolutely correct. Now for the last paragraph, this is a hypothesis of Elfen Lied to remind every one. I strongly believe that Azmodan and Belial will resummon the prime evils back from the abyss. May reason is this. This is the sin wars where heaven and hell combat each other. Neither of them can tip the war in their favor and that is where it is all up to man. I believe that Belial and Azmodan will want to defeat heaven and the only way to do this is to infect man again. To infect man, you need terror, hatred and destruction on the mortal plain.
However, this too is also a hypothesis and Elfen Lied has more knowledge then myself. So, the only way of knowing what the story line for D3, is the day when it comes out.

Maybe hell wants to win the war so badly that they will forgive themselves to the prime evils. Azmodan and Belial will join forces with the prime evils to conquer the mortal plain since the worldstone has been destroyed.
Maybe you also see a ritual to revive duriel, andariel, lilith and the others to deliver a final blow to the mortals. The heaven's would see this act of evil and many angels would join the fight with man. That is when evil has a chance to kill a few angels and turn the tides of the war. Especially when all the chaos of the war to man, many will wind up in hell where they will reinforce hell's army. (Getting a little carried away...)

I agree with Elfen. Some evil entity will bring them back much i nthe same way as the demon Izual was imprisoned in was summoned.
I'll bet that the adventurer eventually kills either Belial or Azmodan, and the other one that survives panics and brings back the Three, and in doing so loses all the power he had acquired.
Or perhaps there are other planes of Hell with other powerful Evils that we (or perhaps everyone, Heaven included) have yet to encounter.
I like that little story. I think that would make a good game. You go and face against Belial, you kill him. Azmodan is next and in that act he escapes like how tal rasha escapes in act 2. act 3 you find the corpse of Azmodan in front of memphisto. Baal and diablo escapes to hell to ressurect their armies. and so on and so fourth. I dunno, sounds a little bit like the story of Diablo II LOD.
