it a nice idea... I don't know if I got it right though
the main problem I see is that it seems too complicated... and as we don't have skill trees anymore it would be hard to tell to wich category the spell is related...
I'll give it a second read and see if I get it right anyway...
thanks... now i'm going to sleep, it's 14:21 pm here and i've been up all night so... i'm sure you guys will come up with some great idea or something... i hope...
other option could be that, as you use one type of spell, its cap grows higher and the caps for other types gets lower, so you can specialize in one kind but in detriment of the others...
if its like this the cap wouldn't penalyze the player, it would be like running out of mana but with stronger spells... for those who choose the "hybrid" wiz will have infinit mana but weaker spells
well, i not a solution, but if forcing a player to use minimum 2 spells is so bad, and if we try to "defend" the idea, then, instead of making imposible to use the spell once you reach the cap, making it cooldown could be a way to avoid that forcing, but to encourage variety... but, as i said before, this part is the biggest flaw on the idea so i'm having a hard time trying to find way out of it... (a little help here) lol
But it forces the wizard into using at least 2 skills.
maybe if you reach the cap for that type of spell you get a cooldown to use the spell, so you can use the spell you want, and if you need it without the cooldown you just use another and go back to your favorite...
it's true that this will force the player to use spells that may not want to... this could be the main flaw of this idea...
Now, if you don't place any skill point in a category, how could you re-use it if you wouldn't be able to use it in first place... you need skill points to use skills right?
i think you got it wrong... i understood that if your resource bubble get one colour you have to use other kind of spell to change it again and after it changed (lets say to blue) you can use arcane again... that way you wouldn't be able to stick with only one kind of skill... good bye coldsorc or firesorc...
Ooh! What about a balance system? If you cast arcane spells for a while your resource bubble turns purple. If it's fully purple, you can't cast arcane spells anymore. If you cast elemental spells, it turns blue. If it's fully blue, you can't cast elemental spells anymore. So you have to switch between the two, and not rely on one of them too much. Just a thought
that's a nice idea... it also adds to the variety thing

As much as I hope that we don't adopt a "brain expansion" resource system I must admit that it gets the shoot first ask questions later part down pat!
yeah, that was in my mind when i thougt it... the critics i recived are good ones, but i came up with the idea thinking about the wiz story... you know the little brat that wants more and more power, what if it gets out of her control...
AHAHHA the worst idea I heard !!! the goal of blizzard is : when YOU CAST you'll vulnerable NOT when you don't casting you vulnerable. Totally Contrary, lol.
ok... i got it, was just a rough idea....
Though this could be a niiice skill... You active it and you start to regenerate "mana" like crazy but if it reachs the maximun value your magical power explodes and you take tons of damage !
what about a system in wich you increase your energy constantly, but if that energy gets full then it start to hurt you and you lose health... that will push the wiz into the action constantly so she uses the energy so she won't die, of course, in town this will not happen...
oh, for higer spells more quikly you energy grows so more you have to use them... maybe to OP?
