what they havent said is "how" possible it is. With the information we have so far about the character classes included, the chances arent that many. Thats what i'm trying to point out. We have the one class returning and the other thats very similar to the necro. Because of this similarity the chances of him returning are much much less. We have 5 more classes as candidates for a return in an expansion. They'd have more chances for a return (at least until we see the next class in BlizzCon).
Our approach for classes in ‘Diablo III’ is that we don’t have a strong desire to bring back classes from the previous game,” Wilson told me. “The goal is to try and give people new gameplay and not just re-hash old gameplay. We’re not just making a ‘Diablo II’ with updated 3D graphics.” “The problem was, we looked at the class and didn’t think that we could really make him a lot better,” he explained. “We could add some new stuff to him but for the most part — curses, corpse explosion, skeleton pets — done. That’s the class. We wanted to create new gameplay, so we chose to do the Witch Doctor as a different kind of class.”
theres the part of the difficulty to create something new to make it interesting.

there is some hope but nothing certain yet. In fact we cant be too sure about what the expansion(s) will bring.

“There’s a lot of people on our team who aren’t happy with our class choices,” he admitted. “But after we’ve established ‘Diablo III’ as its own game with its own type of gameplay and experiences, I wouldn’t be opposed to looking at old classes. We are trying to design [the Witch Doctor'] class so that if we did bring back the Necromancer, there’s room for him. We’re looking out ahead of time at what our expansions are going to be, so we’ve got to keep room open for some of those other classes down the road.”
this part could let room for hope, but as in most cases it could be just to ease the whining of the fans. There is already too much of a similarity to these classes to implement the Necromancer. As said in the first of the quotes, the necromancer doesnt have much room to make a reappearance in the sequel.
You are mistaken...they have specifically stated that the necro and possibly other d2 classes will most likely appear as a playable character in an expansion.
provide me with the interview that said so and i'll believe you.
what exactly was said was: "the necromancer was victim of his own success. He was the perfect class, we couldnt find a way to improve him, so we left him out".
also they said many times that no class will be similar to another. meaning that if there is one summoner/disease/poison sort of guy there's not much of a chance to have another. Witch Doctor is a summoner with many abilities that are quite similar to the necromancer's own.
there are several interviews that mention that the necromancer will not be a playable class in Diablo 3 or in any possible expansion. According to Wilson the necromancer was too perfect. There was no room for improvement and they dont plan to simply transfer any classes. We'll most likely see them as NPCs but thats about it.
